And for the happiness question, I once demolished a AI and he offered me most of his cities for peace and I thought nothing of it, pushing my empire in a century long depression ... edit : Well of course you did .. ![]()

It is almost always better to take time to consolidate your holdings at that point before continuing the campaign. That's not what I did. Attila surrendered and gave me all of his cities. I spent like 15 turns to recover from it. Also that was a game from a long time ago. I play way better than I did back then. Some are easier than others, but overall you have to cook the map really hard to get a map that is seemingly impossible to win.

Like really, what do people consider to be the best game types? I prefer a giant map and lots of civs / city states because i feel it makes it more epic, but is that the most fun way to play? Also, i want a challenge and my current playthrough just isnt giving me that, i just sort of "wing it" and try and take over land / resources while building an army and starting wars when i can win / with an alliance. My last game was "earth" map with 12 civs and 20 city states but it was too easy on warlord, you think i should try like king or emperor? I just want a game where i dont have to "win" but a ton of shit happens (alliances / wars / trading / land grabs / strange shit) but i'll be able to get further then a couple of ages in lol. I play on Quick too because i feel the games long enough imo.

So on a large enough map the time between the first and the 200 turn is about the same as between turn 200 and turn 270.

If I'm really close to wiping out a civ completely then I'll suffer through it. It's funny, I had one game where I had a rather small empire (5-6 cities) and every non-capitol I immediately razed, but my unhappiness was fluctuating so wildly from +10 to -10 to +5 to -20 to +3 in the span of a few short turns as I pressed forward capturing enemy cities.

I also like bigs maps and a ton of civs. However I adjust down the number of proposed city states, both to make room for extra civs but also because I find many states to make the game a little too easy. Just be prepared for a looooooooooooong game (if you dont get wiped out early ofc )
