The 9th Spell is an amazing album! A few hiccups here and there (which I'll discuss later), but a xi-on album dedicated to EoSD has both me and Yoshi Kirishima jumping for joy.
O boy! how did u know :D
Omg yet another septette piano solo! though I already know 3 very epic arranges, I wonder how this one will be... time to see.
Goddamn it would have been sick to have another [hopefully good] piano arrange of A Soul As Red as a Ground Cherry, this is one of the themes with the fewest piano arranges... =/

holy shit im listening to xi-on's album now, holy shit

Move up near her and soak up the point orbs, for each one she absorbs her meter goes up.

Should have realized that, they have similar feel and all <_>

Here's a few discoveries I made beating Extra myself, hope it'll be some help if you plan to play again to improve score or play with a different character.
+ Show Spoiler +Using trance(1/3) right before Nue's appearance (to be precise, activate trance right as the last two fairies are being taken out) lets you collect 4 life fragments. Although you do lose 1/3rd of the trance meter due to the midboss appearing, only half will be spent in total, if not less depending on how late trance is used. Do note that if used too late, you may not be able to collect the multiplied life or bomb fragments before Nue pops in.
While it's ideal to not bomb any of Nue's spellcards it's not necessary (mostly because I'm too lazy to calculate the number of bomb fragments, and that's too varied to matter). As soon as the first two spellcards are beaten, the trance meter should be back to full once more. If not, collect as many spirits as possible on the last spellcard and hope it becomes full. Once the last spellcard is down, activate trance(2/3) to grab 6 life fragments. The trance lasts long enough to wipe out the fairies that shoot pink danmaku. Proceed to mop up the 3 bomb-yielding fairies which appear afterwards, and the following fairies which shoot blue danmaku. 7 fairies appear towards the end of the stage afterwards. While the trance meter is full at this point, you can only take out around 5 in 10 seconds due to the interval in which they appear, so kill the first two and then activate trance(3/3), picking up everything along the way. This gives 8 more life fragments before the boss appears.
If a player does very well (no deaths), they can also use trance after every fourth spellcard to get double the life fragment after capture, but it's absolutely not required.
I did figure this out on my own, but I'm sure others who've beaten the Extra before me (and posted a video) might have done something identical or similar. Why? Because the life fragments add up to two extra lives, which I assume was done intentionally by ZUN. Think of it as an extra benefit of being in Trance Mode while picking up every single life fragment in a stage. All these maneuvers might come off as being a bit perfectionist-like, but really, they're not too difficult to pull off. Having the extra life also leaves a lot of room to score better, or could be just the thing a player needs to beat the stage. All the extra bombs collected in the process help too.

Where do i download/buy this game and get started? is this on pc engine? ive been playing mame danmaku for a while.

haha I had so much fun with this touhou Here is my extra clear with Youmu because she is awesome + Show Spoiler + I don´t know if you were aware of the crash bug. You have to use a bomb before the survival spell of the ex-boss ends or the game will crash ( I raged so hard when that happened )

Man, Youmu is pretty good up until you get forced out of range for your focused shot like on that final card and she becomes totally helpless. Good thing for her many of Ten Desires' cards allow you to hug the boss, and the nonspells tend to have breaks for her to move into position.
Can you elaborate on the bug, though? Is it that you need to bomb at least once before the card ends? That if you bomb, it can't be going when the card ends? That you need to remove some of the bullets right before the card ends by bombing?
|
@Waah : LOL I didn't even know you could trance on your own. I thought the only way to get it is by dying. What's the key ?
@DanielxD : Good Job. Youmu is indeed pretty strong. Her bomb is way more effective than Reimu's it feels like.

If I´m right, the bomb is to remove the bullets to avoid the crash, because all the Extra videos on youtube, people bomb before that spell ends to clear the bullets.
