Ï dont get this post. I understand what he says, but i dont understand why.
what is the final goal? bashing the pros we have in sc2, but what will it change?
Its like saying "the football pros in my contry are a farce, if you look at English football"
If people like local football, then let them. A local hero is worth just as much, for some people, as a star-player.
All in all, people love sc2, and they love the people whom* are the top of sc2.

If you dont like SC2 as it is for now, then watch SCBW, if you dont like that, play pokémon.

heh... well written as always but i don't agree with what it's trying to say. the way i understand it, if you boil down the argument it becomes something like: "i am unsatisfied by the current competition in sc2 because the best players from another rts - which happens to be the predecessor to this game - aren't currently playing competitively."

well okay, it's the predecessor with a lot of skill transfer. but does that separate them from other RTS players who have switched? how can you objectively compare a flash or jaedong to top pros from other RTS games? unless you can actually take build orders from BW and directly apply them to SC2, they have no distinct advantage when starting this game than any other player other than the fact that they've been practicing hard on their mouse precision and multitasking for the past few years. of course, there's no doubt that with these basic mechanical skills, that once they have a team behind them working out optimized build orders, that they can do much better than current players who may have worse mechanics than they, but this isn't a given, just an assumption.

I just want to point out that the Hot_Bid quote actually works more than your conclusion which I find idiotic.

Hot_Bid basically says, there are people who are really really good, like Jaedong and Flash, and if they join Starcraft 2, they'd do incredibly well. Just like some of the top players from other RTS games, or just experienced RTS players in general are doing well. Skills carry over, and if someone is ungodly amazing, they'll obviously still be good.

What you're saying is, -Top 300 pros could transfer over at any time and shit on everyone, so SC2 competition is crap-

No, that's rubbish. Hot_Bid's quote is basically saying that the outliers would do well regardless of if it was SC2 or DickStrategy Pro Tour. That makes a lot more sense, and a number of people have agreed with this that in this thread, what they don't agree with is your nonsense that SC2's competition right now is a farce because any good or half-decent player from BW could come and shit on the top players in SC2, because that's complete crap.

So yeah, I don't think this is well written and I don't agree with it, it's basically flame bait and you quote Hot_Bid and then go in a different direction, he says the absolute outliers will always be good because they're special, you're saying anyone decent at BW could demolish everyone in SC2 which Hot_Bid actually implies would not be the case in that quote.

anyone who is a huge lee young ho fan like myself cannot help but love this article.

its more of a praising flash thing than anything else. No one has been like him or JD yet in SC2.. and I hope that the day comes. (Stork and Bisu too). They were all so incredible.

The thing that gets me everyone who claims the skill ceiling is too low? Why haven't they then hit it themselves? Unless your the greatest player in the world, make no mistakes and are crushing your opposition without an issue, then Skill ceiling argument is baseless. MBS automine.. etc whatever. Even with these players still make errors, so until people play like those videos of perfect machine controlled micro.. then there is no need to even bring them up.
2 expansion packs to go, hopefully some things will be changed... I'd love thors to be smaller for example. The game is young, no one has perfected anything at all. Even the best players lose to stupid errors, and until people start perfecting things, the game is nowhere near figured out or done.. as it were, and then once people actually start being perfect.. then we'll see a lot of changes as people refine builds etc.

The editorial was bias yes.. but I can see how it was intended. What wasn't addressed was that because the Brood war B teamers etc are payed so shitty... the next Flash, the next JD instead will maybe be Practicing SC2 for the bigger prize pools, and worldwide tournaments. So maybe now BW has the best players... but who's to say in 6 month's time the next Bonjwa worthy player surfaces in the Round of 32 Code A with no hype.. and proceeds to smash the ever loving shit of SC2.

But these guys weren't progamers before SC1, nor had any remarkable statistics in games before it because, hell, most of them had probably not been born.

Wouldn't it be only fair to use this exact same line of logic to assume the entire Brood War scene has been a complete farce thus far, therefore invalidating your statement?

You know what they say, Winter is coming.

Good article. I think you give too much credit to just 2 outliers changing the very face of the game. If anything this is just going to repeat what Broodwars top slot currently looks like. Jaedong and flash will come on board and then rape everyone. So what? It won't be entirely unexpected. No one is going to say the current top players are the absolute best to stand up to them. So umm what is that was at the crux of this? Enjoy the fun while it lasts? They know that. They know that very well.

I love articles based on (strongly) biased assumptions, with a pseudoscientifical approach (numbercrunching as backup-statements). Especially articles that use loaded words like 'farce' and 'nobodies', and in the end point out something blantantly obvious, and if I may say so, completely irrelevant. This is one of such articles.

I see no bloody elephants anywhere, only an article that should have been a mere forumpost.

humm i thought this post was about sc2 players and the game and so on, but it's just full of BW stats. how does that relate to the topic of The competition in SC2 thus far has been a farce.? The game is almost one year old. Give it time... Especially for a game that was last updated in 2009, but released 13 years ago.

wait 12 years and see how it pans out.

I really don't get what you are on about really. Yes Brood War players are gods in thier game. They have outstanding mechanics and all of that I agree with you there. But saying that that automatically = succsess in a game that works very diferently but looks very much the same is abit to far fetched.

I agree that this is surely a possibility but to state it as an actuall fact is just wrong. There is no certain proof of this even happening yet seeing as non of the godly BW players have yet to make the transition.

I would feel that this post is saying something along the lines of

"well if the soviet super line(The soviets absolutely crushed everyone in ice hockey at one point in time) was to compete in hockey today with the players beeing in thier prime the results would be the same"

And I don't agree with that statement. Games change SC2 has a diffrent playstyle than SC:BW diffrent units maps and metagame. So I feel your post is really just lacking in evidence to back up your claims.

Eventho you basically said this was your own oppinion I just state why I disagree with it. Or rather I reserv my judgement untill I actually se a BW pro come in to SC2 and really just dominate within 6-12 months.
I'll take you all on!

I don't understand the point of the article. People will practice harder once the game is more figured out. Strategies are changing all the time with different patches that it's hard to practice for 12 hours a day and then in a GSL match you might face a build you've never even seen before. The skill level will increase over time, just like in BW. It went from people like Grr and maynard to boxer + yellow, to july and nada, and now to flash and jaedong. I'm pretty sure you put each of these players in their prime against each other and the players that came after the older ones will beat them every time, because they had to practice more to get to that point since things have been figured out. SC2 hasn't been out for even a year (retail) and already we can see a HUGE skill difference from GSL1 all the way to now. The collective skill level will rise, and in order to keep up people will need to practice more, that's it.

While I have no doubt that the top BW players could have an immediate impact on the SC2 scene (aka winning a gsl rather quickly, dominating etc) I am not sure why you say there are 300 pros or semi pros that could come into SC2 and dominate right away. If they could, why haven't they? While JD, Flash and some others make quite a bit of money, surely half of that 300 or more is making less than what they could be making by dominating all the GSLs, IEMs, WCGs. And if their skills transition so flawlessly, it should be quite easy for them.

What is their reason for not switching?

Would you trade a guaranteed 70-80k a year for possibly winning a little more? The slight increase in money isn't worth the risk, and most of those players are under contract with their current team right now so they couldn't just leave.

I don't have a problem with blizzard patching the game and I think it's kind of lame to complain about it. A highly capable player base just helps to explore the balance in a game, they don't actually cause the game to become balanced. Unless anyone else has a better explanation, I still think the fine balance in BW was mostly just dumb luck. It'd be stupid to expect it to happen twice.

Pretty dumb and pointless article. People might just do better in one game over another. And you're only looking at BW. Several mediocre WC3 players are hotshots in SC2, and several top tier WC3 players are mediocre SC2 players. So what? It's dumb to think being good at one game will lead to being good at another. There are a lot of factors to consider.
