I have to ask - why all this hype here and not other female gamers? i know the mods ban or temp ban seemingly everyone who post anything even closely resembling criticism, so ill try to be as PC as i possibly can be. I thought Scarlett had a great showing at WCS, she definitely has skill; but - She doesnt stream and from what i can tell she doesn't do so because canadian internet is poor. this doesn't stop Julia or MsSpyte from doing so daily even though they both live in canada, but i get it. She doesn't do interviews (even after she wins tournaments), she doesn't tweet, i think she abandoned the facebook page, she hardly posts here, she doesn't post replay packs, she doesn't appear on any interviewing program... I mean - she literally has zero footprint in the community at all. this current fan page 2.0 currently has 484 replies, the prior one had 5,384 before it was closed, so currently the posts for her total at 5,868. for some perspective - Grubby's fan page - which has never been reset - has 1,279. Nerchio's has 490. Mana, who won HSC, 482. Huk - the other "big" Canadian name, which has been active since 10/10/2010 - has 6,110. Even other prominent female gamers - Julia for example has no fan page, MsSpytes post count is a 68, QuanticFlo's (who streams almost daily, has extremely active twitter and does fan Q&A several times a week) fanpage has an even 50 posts, Megumixbear, who streams literally every day, tweets her fans, offers coaching, does casting, does Q&A, has a youtube channel, invites her steam subscribers to play games with her, has been in multiple mlg's, NAStar league, etc - 430 posts... all of the above fan pages have been active for months, and sometimes years before Scarletts and have almost no posts... is it the bi-gender situation? is this to show the support and the progressive nature of the SC community? Why dont the same people here have this type of tenacity in supporting other prominent, and far more involved members of the SC community ESPECIALLY the other females ones, who really need it? I understand that she did very well at WCS and is likely a great player - but there are a lot of great players out there. I hope more than anything that this type of enthusiastic backing can help her come out of her "shell" so to speak. Idra and Incontrol learned a long time ago that if you cant "play the game" and get involved in the community you wont be around very long. I think she needs to start doing some of the things above and start getting involved to really kinda justify this type of attention. I dont mean to tell you all that you are wasting your time. I think its great that this board (and perhaps the SC community as a whole) is extremely accepting and progressive regarding Scarletts path, i guess more than anything i hope she (or perhaps the people that are on this board that are close to her) send a polite message that she needs to become involved in the scene. Even players from smaller teams are learning that you have to get involved to stay relevant. See AxSlav (fanclub post count 257) at MLG and members of Complexity few have ever heard of are dying to get in front of the camera (they are actually doing a live webcast fan Q&A tomorrow from their gaming house). So far Complexity and Liquid have made documentaries about their players just to get their names out there and get things rolling. It seems to me like Scarlett intentionally avoids the community at every path... maybe im reading that wrong, maybe i dont understand the shyness? I also hope this message reaches other fans of this board and hopefully they are supporting (or will support) other strong female gamers (which judging by the post counts and the viewship i know is not happening). in any case, ive seen on here that she has popped on her irc, so perhaps she makes an effort to get involved with this fans, which is awesome. I rooted for her at WCS and will certainly do so at the continentals even though i have a few other favorites. its a great story and its awesome to have such loyals fans as i can see here. I just wanted to ask in the nicest way possible - please show this kind of support for all female gamers - there are some that are 100x more involved than Scarlett and are working hard every day to bring female gaming to the forefront. Flo and Smex for example did a very long and VERY well delivered interview tonight on the state of female gamers (which only had about 500 viewers on twitch :[ ). they work so hard and dont have a sliver of this kind of support. And for Scarlett (and this might give me a temp ban, but ive lived my whole life by it) Earn this - ive never seen such a rich community as this fanpage, and especially the last. It also extends beyond here - when stuff pops up with your name on Reddit even people there support you with borderline zealotry. Earn this. Give back to the community that gives its time and support to you, that defends you with some serious tenacity, has offered to pay your way to tournaments via a collection (which is amazing btw). I think you have a long way to go, but make it happen User was temp banned for this post.

Megumi for example, her fan page was started 19 months before Scarletts and has literally less than 10% of the posts Scarletts does. All im asking is to spread the love. there are those of us who want female gaming to not be something to scoff at. Scarlett has some how managed to garner more fans in less time than every female gamer on this message board combined since its start - people here obviously have a passion for support the female gamer - im just trying to implore people that there are other people, very deserving, whom you should also show support for.

Your entire post is just littered with bad logic and falsehoods. For instance, Scarlett is somewhat prominent in the community and one of the very reasons for her fan club thread is that she often responds to others here and shared quite a few replays. She also is active on the forums, here and reddit, she appears on streams, KotH's and the like. Your insinuation that she is lying about bad internet because "other people in Canada stream" is also ridiculous, as if Canada is just one small place. Some more silly things about your post: Scarlett has no responsibility towards her fans. "earn this" is again simply a ridiculous notion that says that it's her duty or whatever to live up to our expectations. But just because you're a fan of someone, doesn't entitle you to anything. If Scarlett chooses to never post here that's perfectly acceptable, but in fact, she does and that's nice. But I'd hate it if she felt like she had to placate us out of fear of disappointing us etc. Scarlett is popular whereas others aren't because she's the more interesting story and is more 'compelling' (partly because she's a better player). Is there any good logical reason for lecturing people for finding one player more interesting than the other? Or easier to root for? Chances are you made your post on a throw-away account because you know you can't stand behind it; you even included "this might ban me" in there, to make your post more hostile and critical of this community. (challenging us to try and get rid of you etc.)

Give back to the community that gives its time and support to you, that defends you with some serious tenacity, has offered to pay your way to tournaments via a collection (which is amazing btw). I think you have a long way to go, but make it happen You keep on reiterating that she needs to earn the attention she has but here is some news, she did earn it. She earned it by playing phenomenally in tournaments and coming out of nowhere to win the tournament. This is kind of the persona she has carved out for herself. Not only does coming out of the shadows gives her personality but it gives a crucial upperhand for her in tournaments where people farm information to prepare. Honestly, what you are arguing for is a stupid point. Flo and the other female players have not made a name for themselves while Scarlett has. That is why she so far ahead of the others. If Flo had a good run at MLG, knocking out top Koreans she would get a lot of attention. Scarlett got more attention than most would with such a run because nobody knew anything about her. That's why I am here. That storyline has a strong allure and is entertaining and Scarlett keeps using that which is fine by me. It adds another dimension to her runs in tournaments. From the moment that she burst onto the scene, it was made clear by her that she wants to focus on her play and not some extraneous circumstance. She wants her play to speak for itself without any aid and it certainly does that. The reason most players go down the community route is because their play can't speak for itself and in order for that player to stay relevant. Scarlett's play is fantastic and is miles above anyone else in the NA scene. She doesn't have to go on every single podcast ever to stay relevant unlike players who struggle. Look at the players in KR or even EU. A lot of them you don't see anywhere else other than tournaments but you still know about them. Cut the fat out and keep the focus on the game. TLDR: She doesn't want to be a face in the community (for reasons that I did and did not address) and doesn't have to. PS: If you want more information about her, lurk her or in the IRC chat. We are up to date with everything. And yes, Scarlett pops up often in both of those.

But to be quite honest, I'd rather see players to show great games, gameplay and a nice personality (not too girly though). I really do not mind what the other female players are doing, I think they should do whatever they like, and if that's showing their face on camera playing Diablo or 2v2's or answering questions or throwing theirselves into the spotlight, fine. It's not that I'm not following a couple of other female players myself, but I'm just not getting the feeling they're concentrated on actually improving. Sure they're might be playing alot in front of the webcam, but I don't see a lot of real potential, save for 2 of that I know. In any case it's nowhere near the level of Scarlett. Scarlett needs to keep doing what she does now, and we're here to cheer for her when she crushes them noobs (and she still is doing that). If you really want to know more about her, I suggest you make your hands dirty and dig instead of requiring everything to be handed to you on a silver platter. There's plenty of stuff around.

Well, that's not strictly true, but you get my drift. Scarlett seems to be a fairly private player, who doesn't wish to be in the spotlight. Prefers not to stream ("the technology isn't there yet" is just about as convincing here as it is coming from Blizzard). Certainly, there are other players who likewise, prefer to be largely private, and succeed at an impressive professional level as largely private individuals. That's her choice. She doesn't owe anyone anything. Nor do fans of her play owe her some sort of fealty which, in any case, she isn't actively seeking. Maybe some people are used to a certain kind of player-fan relationshiop, and get their panties in a twist when it doesn't realise itself, as if duties and responsibilities aren't being fulfilled. But there are no such duties. There are no such responsibilities. I suppose if one wishes to be a fan of Scarlett in the manner that one can be a fan of much more public and vociferous players (Destiny, for example), one will find oneself disappointed. Anyone who's disappointed for that reason likewise isn't in the wrong. Scarlett responded to Internet fame in a way that will have been extremely disappointing to many. But a disappointment is not an accusation. People having hoped Scarlett would be something she isn't doesn't imply what she is is unacceptable. Merely that it's something other than what some had hoped for or expected.

She reads this fanclub and responds to people and talks in the IRC chat. To me, that is way more meaningful than pimping some sponsor out on a talk show like every EG player.

You're just accusing her of lying with no evidence. She did set up her stream and discovered it was too laggy/annoying, so she decided to not stream unless she could get better internet. Or perhaps you are right and this was all an elaborate performance to trick the community. *cough*

Also I would rather see her do super well in tournaments than see her spend loads of time playing fan games on livestream.
