Marco flew in to protect him and held off Sakazuki but was given a strict order by his pop/captain to NOT intervene and to lead everyone to safety because he was intending to die and take marineford with him. then he split the earth in two so that he was left alone isolated with the marines and none of the division commanders intervened until Whitebeard told them to rally behind Luffy after the inmates arrival. might not be a hundred percent accurate but im going to reread the marineford volumes tonight, Marco arguably had the best results against the Ádmirals of all the WB pirates including whitebeard. He started of by lowering the marines morale notably by sending their strongest physical fighter Kizaru flying with one kick. During most of the war his job was to pretty much keep any admiral busy at any time, wich he succeeded at. He landed a few strong hits on Aokiji and coming out without a scratch, And he would have WON them the war by saving ace when he flew in and took a full force maigou from akainu through the chest without flinching or showing signs of damage. if it wasnt for Ace stubborn "í dont run from battles" policy he would have lived and the marines would have failed in front of the whole world watching. After Luffy freed Ace and Marco saved them both Whitebeard ordered them to retreat since they had achieved their goal. Then Akainu started hurling insults at whitebeard calling him a failure from a past era. This is when Ace fucked up and refused to leave, and Ace died in an attempt to replicate Marcos action by trying to take the hit for Luffy, getting his chest basicly pierced with a giant hot magma fist. At this point their cause was basicly lost plus the timely arrival of teach and his new recruits, and the top division commanders havinh to focus on protecting Luffy from Akainu who was lurking around underground tryinh to find an opening. Not counting WB the biggest heroes in the war (despite everything being in vain because ace fucked up and fell for cheap trashtalk from Sakazuki were: Luffy Jinbei Marco Ivankov The Garp filler i confused with marco was him intervening in the fight between BB and sengoku, knocking out burgess. Garp still became my favourite character during the war though... The "You better keep holding me down like that Sengoku, or else i am going to kill that damned Sakazuki]" after witnessing him murder Ace reduced me to tears and is still my favourite quote from the series. i dont doubt that Garp is like luffy; when he really gets pissed he can take out anyone and Akainu is just a rookie with a strong DF in comparison... Being able to knock down Marco wich no other admiral including akainu managed to do proves that he is still one of the top sharks around. EDIT:ranking characters against each others is pointless, but i still want to point out that most people severly underrate or dont give enough credit to these characters: Ivankov Marco Magellan Garp Kizaru Ivankov taking out the Cyborg empowered Kuma like some silly show, and taking a maigou hit head on. literary. Marco for being ranked top 3 under BB by the gorosei and actually saving ace and luffy wich people forget. Magellans DF is probably the Paramecia i would like to fight the least. He almost killed BB, they survived out of pure luck of brining antidotes. Garp for simply being funny, powerful and well writen (his mannerisms are so similiar to luffy you can really tell they are related. same logical fallacies  And finally kizaru because people seem to think he is weaker than the other 2 original marines when he is in fact just lazy but has powers that if used properly (and it happens sometimes) cannot be put within the same category as Kuzan (Light vs Ice, come on. the purest form of energy that exists vs a walking polar winter?) he is funny too, and the strongest physical/haki fighter among the 3 originals (kicks with the force of the collision speed of light imbued with haki... ouch) Akainu has massive AoE damage and lethal logia powers that destroy other logia users. Kuzan has the most strategical and defensive DF that makes him the ultimate support/crowd control weapon. he can move around on water and lets say freeze the ocean beneath an opposing fleet of ships, to freeze them in place for a strategic advantage, allowing you to form an optimal position against theirs without them being able to escape | ||

I imagine it's to prevent them from overshadowing Luffy since it is his "Grand Adventure" after all! That said, if anyone ever wanted to go a dream fight á la Akuma vs Chameleon I'd sure watch it. | ||

Moonfire: some characters have gone borderline "all out" i think. Whitebeard did after Aces death, but it was also important for Oda to have him live up to the "Strongest man in the world" title. Im sure Kuzan and Akainu went all out in their 10day fight, a shame we didnt get to see at least small bits of it!. Sengoku was sorta giving his everything against blackbeard because i imagine he was desperate to save marineford, and it pushed him into going into his DF form wich is kinda odd that he didnt do in the previous fight. That being said he looked pretty underwhelming. other than that, characters only go all out if they fight Luffy and he is about to beat them :/ | ||

That's right, the crew of the current Yonko, Blackbeard. Garp was also on par with the Pirate King. The more you think about it, the more amazing/strong Garp is. | ||

When u use assumptions like Akainu have master crowd control. Kizaru has strong kick. Thus every1 has their own strong point therefore in the end they are equally balanced. It feels like MMORPG game design. Where all class/race have to be balanced. I tink every1 opinion is equally valid unless proven otherwise from valid sources.. Just like ghost?
