How many times can they ruin one of the best sagas in comic book history?

The last third of the movie suddenly becomes a typical action movie, and oddly enough it made me thing of a mixture of Home Alone with Mortal Kombat. I couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of how the last baddy died.

Also, anyone hype for The Joker? I've tempered expectations but every trailer or teaser just gets me more pumped.

Ad Astra was the closest I've ever been to walking out of a cinema midway through the movie in my life. It's not a sci-fi movie at all if that's what you're expecting, it's a movie about daddy issues set in a very poorly described sci-fi-ish world. The plot is very straightforward and very bland, there are no twists or surprises of any sort, every scene in the movie is telegraphed long in advance, and I couldn't feel any tension at all throughout. Even on a nice iMax screen, the visuals were 'meh' at best, with tons of missed opportunities. Also, the director said he wanted to do a 'realistic' depiction of space travel? Well, forget about that if you know anything about how space travel works at all, the whole thing is about as realistic as Star Wars is (actually Star Wars might be more realistic, since I can get behind some super future spacey tech that allows for 'hyperspeed' travel and weird gravity tricks and lightsabers'+ Show Spoiler + but a spaceship using conventional propulsion en route from Earth to Mars deciding to stop and board a random craft half way through the trip is entirely, 100% implausible, as is using a nuclear explosion to propel a ship from outer planets back to Earth. Like, shooting fucking lightning out of your fingers is more realistic than that shit is, for real. Anyway, apparently a lot of people liked it? But I honestly don't get why, maybe it's just 'not my thing' but I couldn't think of a single reason why anyone would like that movie, Brad Pitt's acting isn't nearly enough to salvage the utter failure that the movie is, imo. My wife thought the same as well.

It was on on-going theme that space travel was just as casual as “flying an airplane inter-continental”. The bit about the pirate-rover scene on the moon felt off, no context behind it other than that there were “valuable resources on the moon”. I’m gonna echo a post before me: that helping a SOS ship mid-travel to Mars was soooo off-putting. But I guess you’re supposed to believe that all space travel has no hurdles at this point. TLDR: it’s not a movie about the technological and plethora of variability of space travel difficulties, but more on human mental stability as you’re further away from “home”. If you accept it as an allegory it will be fine. Though for me, It was a long 2 hours.

I found the movie to be slow and sometimes boring. I had so much hype for this movie and most of the youtubers give it extraodinary scores but for me it was a 7/10 and not a 9+ as many have stated. Agree completely, I also gave 7/10. There were glimpses of a great movie under there, but it seemed sort of incomplete. Like they just went with a first draft, missing many tight scenes and planned/payoff sequences. Also seemed a bit rushed, like with the girl in his building, the twist there was so painfully obvious and unneeded. I dunno, just felt a bit like they got half there creatively and decided that was enough. Another prime example of how the trailer is way better than the movie. (I had an elaborate plot in my head trying to guess how the movie would go based on the trailers, and it was far better than what I saw in the completed product.) Is definitely worth a watch though, just don't go in with super high hopes.

Movie has aged beautifully. There’s a lot more to admire than its pleasing aesthetic and subtle-horror undertones that I remembered when I was younger. That was an incredible rewatch and definitely one to get you in the Halloween mood. It’s on Netflix btw

I really enjoyed Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. This one had some emotional moments but otherwise fell flat to me. I think the strength of the two series is in the ensemble cast and the chemistry between them. This movie is all about Jesse. The most time he spends with another character is that dead fish Todd guy (in flashbacks)... I just couldn't feel too invested except for the brief flashback with Walt in the diner. Jesse is a great character but he needs people to bounce off of, and there's no one with any significant time in the movie for him to do that. These are just my subjective opinions of course... maybe I would have enjoyed it more at another time. 6/10
