Did you watch it and didn't like it or are you debating whether or not you should watch it?

Don't reaaaally care for it, because I know how the story will play out more or less with only having seen the trailer. It's basically a platform for a one man show if I'm to be believe various sources. + Show Spoiler +I already know 'the twist' from being spoiled, but honestly, I don't mind it being spoiled, it doesn't seem that clever anyway I just want a bit more insight into why people like/love/dislike/... it.

I liked it based on the fact it was a one man show of a film, it was a greatly portrayed story on how the Joker came to be.
+ Show Spoiler [Spoiler this bit i guess] +The way you could relate to him for pretty much all he did until probably the last 1/4 of the film, the fact he was bullied and literally had no chance in life through multiple external reasons in his life. The fact that his mother was in Arkham and adopted him, the fact the recession in Gotham meant that the mental health services were removed. The issue with the social divide in Gotham being so vast it caused the rise up and associate with the Joker even easier. But generally the small things like his laugh which was missing a lot in the Dark Knight trilogy of films and the way his mind would work was all "explained" a little which made me enjoy it even more.
I was speaking about it at work today actually, and we both concluded that it was a film that you never felt "bored" watching it due to it being the perfect length, it wasn't a long movie and it's paced to perfection in that way as well. Sometimes these "drama" films (i will call it a drama xd) can go off on irrelevant subplot or just drag things out for way to long for no reason, but this didn't.
One thing i said and i'll say again is if Joaquin phoenix doesn't win the best Actor at the Oscar's the person who beat him must have given a stupidly insane showing, as that was perfection from him.

All in all it doesn't really matter if you know how it will play out or not. This isn't a movie based on some twists like The Usual Suspects, it's a very straightforward and simple story. But don't let the simplicity of it deceive you. It's extremely well made and brilliantly executed. The acting is top notch, the cinematography, music and atmosphere are just perfect and it's just incredibly well-made movie that delivers from the beginning to end without any real hiccups.
Right now it's the best movie to have been released this year. It's worth watching just for the sake of watching a good movie for a change, instead of all those factory made shitfests Hollywood loves to throw around so much.

Sorry to Bother You (2018) I don't know how I missed this when it came out. Its fantastic. This is a darkly surreal satirical (dystopia?) movie. Its a metaphor about selling out under capitalism and all the things you have to give up for success. The film is hilarious, I was laughing all the way through, but as it goes further down the rabbit hole of its analogy the jokes are inflected with a subtle darkness and meanness that add to the general atmosphere. It reminds me of Brazil or Idiocracy. There are layers upon layers of metaphor in the writing which is something I always enjoy. Its not very subtle but its a comedy so in the end that's fine. 9/10

Watched Maleficent yesterday with my 6y old daughter. I really enjoyed the film and the cgi was incredible. 8/10 for me.

Which ones? The Lighthouse, Marriage Story, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, the Irishman, and probably more :D This is a pretty good year for cinema overall.

Hows the lighthouse, for people who've seen it already. It looks interesting and I've heard good reviews about it but its horror genre isnt really something im in to. I personally cant really watch those exorcist type movies.

The Laundromat
Unlike it's description says, it's not comedy-drama at all. It's more of a crafty documentary and a cautionary tale about tax avoidance. Worth watching just to see the stellar cast, I mean, just look at this list: Gary Oldman Antonio Banderas Meryl Streep Sharon Stone James Cromwell Robert Patrick Jeffrey Wright David Schwimmer
So many faces you know!
Overall it was OK. Not great, not terrible. I really enjoy movies that take the chance and actually break the fourth wall and such. Soderbergh definitely did a good job on this one.
Edit: Also, thanks to this movie I've learned that there's an actress whose name is Lucy Morningstar, this is now my favorite name in the movie industry right after Dick Warlock (Kurt Russel's stunt double in Escape From New York).

And in other news The Joker has now brought more money to WB than Infinity War did for Disney. It might yet be the most profitable movie of the year. Crazy.

Just came back from it. I really enjoyed it. But take note i'm a Terminator fan. It copies T2 in many ways but for me that's not a bad thing since T2 was the best film of them all. Don't expect acting prowess etc, its all about the fighting scenes and CGI and there's a lot of it.
Would rate it with a 7 maybe 7.5/10.

Now that's pretty surprising since most reviews I've seen seem to share the consensus of it being a terribad movie that shits all over T1 and T2.
Speaking of movies that have been getting a lot of flack, I've seen the recent Hellboy. They've made it truly gruesome (in a good way) and quite enjoyable actually. The biggest mistake they've made was with the story. While it wasn't super bad per se, it was pretty much the same thing we've seen previously. I'd really like to see a Hellboy movie where they'd go smaller, into a nice and simple paranormal investigation reminiscent of noir detective movies instead of yet another world-shattering event. I really enjoyed how they did the monsters though, really great details on the giants and Baba Yaga was creepy as hell and seriously unnerving. Mad props for that. Overall I'd give it 6.5/10, could be 8/10 if not for the rehashed story.

Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010) Trailer: + Show Spoiler +
I've been wanting to watch this for a long time and finally got around to it. I'm glad I did, its probably one the best things I've seen for years. There's basically no plot and the film is all atmosphere but holy shit does it pull it off perfectly. Its got that horrifying creepy vibe like a weird sci fi synthwave bad trip nightmare. The music is amazing.
I would recommend unless you like your movies to have a strong story with character development etc. in which probably not.
9/10
