I don't get what is all the fuss about it on reddit really, such a bad movie. I'll give it 2/10 only because they tried. Whaaaat, that movie is a great little deconstruction of your traditional forest dwelling redneck slasher. It was better than Cabin in the Woods in many aspects. I can see why people wouldn't like it per se, but 2/10?? Seriously, you can't have seen many bad films as even if you dislike the characters and goals of that film its not an objectively bad film, its well acted, well shot and isn't hugely derivative either. Anyway I saw Upstream Color last night: ![]() I adored Primer, its possibly one of my favorite movies and this film has similarities (being the same auteur) but is also very different and definitely not for everyone. If you don't like fairly art house films with minimal dialogue by default then do not watch this movie, I can't say I like that style of film making as it can often come across as pretentious, *cough*Only God Forgives*cough*, but to me this film really does not do that, there is clearly a lot going on behind all the choppy cuts and the rather contrived Malick style shot of a hand stroking a surface (which gets annoying after a while). I'm definitely going to need to see this a few times before I really figure out what this film is about. Unlike Primer which started out making sense but by the end you began to question what was really going on, this film starts with very little intention of telling you whats going on, any online synopsis will fill you in on the basics and that's all you really get then things can slowly start to be pieced together and while it doesn't come together at the end in a clear way it clearly wasn't supposed to and begs for repeat viewings. So in short if you want to watch a film which doesn't dump shit tonnes of exposition and wants you to think about whats going and invites you to derive meaning from some brilliantly shot and atmospheric scenes then go ahead. It's by no means perfect, I think Primer is probably the better movie, but its still worth seeing so i'd give it a solid 8/10 which is by no means set in stone, maybe if I watch this film 10 times I'll see more flaws or more depth, its really impossible to say with something like this, and that's part of the reason I enjoyed it.

![]() Most creative film I've seen in quite a while. This one is set in a dystopian future where everyone is living underground. Elevators are the main method of transportation and most of the movie takes place in one. Not all the plot threads are resolved, but the premise is epic and there's a constant aura of mystery. If there's any aspiring sci-fi writers here, this might be a source of inspiration.

Confessions (kokuhaku) (2010) - revenge/drama/thriller. damn this movie felt good. the ending makes it all worth it. there were some slower parts in the middle, but the beginning was so captivating, and, like i just said, the ending is awesome. 8.6/10 Northwest (Nordvest) (2013) - film about a kid and his little brother who get mixed up with the wrong people. gangs, crime, drugs. some shit starts spiraling out of control, and his lil bro may become more ruthless than the brother. kinda weird, i don't usually watch movies like this, but i think they conveyed the emotions and atmosphere pretty well. poor, desperate kid who gets in deep with the wrong shit, and how he responds to it. not the most entertaining, imo. 6.6/10 olympus has fallen (2013) - lolwat. mindless action flick... but the action isn't that good. nothing more to say here. 4.4/10 the great gatsby (2013) - i only vaguely remember the book, so i actually didn't really know how the story was going to play out. movie seemed alright. the big party sequences seemed unnecessary - they could've been shorter and still gotten the point across. 6.9/10 i'm a cyborg, but that's ok (2006) - cute love story. had its slow moments where it seemed like nothing was happening, and there were some parts where i wasn't sure whether i should be feeling awkward or laughing (probably laughing, but i was watching by myself lol). a good film overall imo. 7.8/10 star trek into darkness (2013) - i used to watch TOS with my mom way back in middle school when the scifi channel was doing a lot of reruns. loved it. loved movies 2, 4, and 6 too. not too fond of the other ones. loved star trek 2009. even if it's not "star trek"esque because of the lack of politics, cultural/social development, etc, i enjoyed it. watched TNG after, and enjoyed it as well.. i thought star trek 2009 was better than STID, but STID is still an enjoyable film. karl urban is an excellent mccoy don't like the new scotty. new khan is great. original khan was better. spock is a beast, as he should be with his vulcan strength. 7.9/10

![]() I thought this was a very refreshing movie. The movie is about the life of the director's mother, but the story is told by the people around the mother, not by the mother herself. So you get all these different perspectives of what a person's life is like from the people around her, without the person actually speaking. I know this all might sound a bit dull, but the movie is very captivating, or at least to me. There is a lot of mystery in the movie. All the people in the movie also have a very genuine and open attitude, it is quite remarkable.

Come and See is one of the best, if not the best, war movie. It's a must see. Hiroshima Mon Amour is also really really good. La Nouvelle Vague in all his splendeur. The other ones are very good too, except "No" maybe wich is just ok.

![]() An Iron Man movie in which Tony Stark spends hardly any time wearing the Iron Man suit, and when he does, it's mostly used as a device for lame jokes. So he can fight people like Thor, but after apparently spending all his time working on upgrades and stuff, he instantly loses to people who've been injected with something to give them random fire powers? Why does he give out his address on the news, but then does absolutely nothing to prepare for an attack? He has an entire army of suits, but the only one he has available is the only one that barely works? Why does he wait so long to use his army of suits? Why does he blow them all up at the end? This movie's garbage. 03 World War Z (2013) - 6.5/10 ![]() This was mostly ok, but it didn't really feel like a complete movie. Like it was missing out on a lot of stuff. 04 Now You See Me (2013) - 7.0/10 ![]() This was surprisingly decent, given how bad the trailer made it look. The ending is pretty disappointing though. 05 The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec (2010) - 7.0/10 ![]() Needs more adventuring stuff in Egypt and less uninteresting characters in France. Louise Bourgoin is very pretty.

I think the movie was based of a book that was told in documentary format. It's not realistic as most people say it is. Zombie movies can't be realistic or they'd be boring. "Zombies found, hurr, eradicated in 2 days, casualties: 2-4" The book is written as a series of interviews given by a reporter talking to various survivors around the world. The solution is not the same as in the film. I enjoyed the movie a lot more than I expected to, but was rather disappointed by the discovery to win the battle.

I just watched this and to me it is a beautiful movie. I'm not gonna get all pretentious and go on about movie structure and the same old hollywood shite and such things. Its simple really, if you don't mind watching a movie and having very little idea what's going on, then you will probably like this. If you have to be clear about the plot of movie when you're watching it then you will probably hate it. The whole movie feels just out of reach, and rather than gaining a grip on it as the movie progresses, you seem to lose whatever small grip the beginning gave you as it goes along. Like trying to remember the details of a dream. You can tell that this is by the guy who made Primer, but its influences and its feeling are completely different. Primer is like a logic puzzle, with added science. This is like a memory puzzle with added emotion. it reminds me, in some weird way, of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. the soundtrack is beautiful. One of my favorite movies of the year, but one that i know will get a very mixed reaction. 9/10

![]() Man of Steel - Can't help but feel disappointed by this. Russell Crowe was a badass though, even though he had a small role I really liked his character. It seemed to have a lot of flashbacks and stuff though which I found annoying and threw off the pacing for me. Most of the fight scenes were bad too, just a bunch of people punching each-other and go flying for miles. Hopefully Man of Steel 2 will be better. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Pain & Gain - This seemed like it would be good, had an interesting back-story to it (based on something that really happened to an extent) but it just had some weird shit in it...+ Show Spoiler + the guy who went to the doctor to get his dick fixed because the steroids made him impotent, and the whole warehouse full of sex toys and shit, wtf? Made it hard to take it serious. I kinda wonder if they even wanted it to be serious because it almost feels whimsical in a way how a lot of the movie plays out. Just came over really strange and didn't enjoy it. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Lockout - Set in the future. A CIA agent gets framed for another agents murder and is sent to a maximum security prison on a space station and works out a deal to rescue the presidents daughter who gets caught up in shit on there in exchange for his freedom. This was pretty bad, especially the acting from Guy Pearce....don't think I have ever seen a more disinterested main character in a movie ever, holy shit. + Show Spoiler + ![]() The Boondock Saints - This was alright. Got better after halfway in I feel. Dunno if I will bother with the second one though.

![]() Eric Rohmer, one of the least known French New Wave directors, returns to basics in the first of his "Comedies and Proverbs" series (this one is based on the proverb: You can't think of nothing) after a couple of odd and eccentric period films (especially Perceval, boy was that a deviation). Overshadowed by Francois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard, Rohmer uses a straight forward visual style which is never flashy and focuses on love stories. In his "Six Moral Tales" series he always had a first person view of events and focused on that one person and their interactions. Here it's a weaving pattern following a jealous young man spying on his older girlfriend's ex-lover, his girlfriend and young teenager intrigued by the romantic drama. Like most of Rohmer's movies the general plot sounds like it's a dull French film, but Rohmer's writing is amazing and the movie ends up being complex, fun and elegant in a way I've only seen in the work of Ernst Lubitsch. The Aviator's Wife isn't one of Rohmer's most well known or revered movies, but I cannot help and feel like it's his strongest. I probably feel that way after seeing most of his films though.

![]() Good movie all around. The cinematography used many techniques well. There were scenes with no sound. Some were viewed from far away. Some where time goes by quickly. + Show Spoiler + And when the characters were all getting arrested, each subsequent arrest took less time until they just showed the sound of the cop cars. It's not awkward like a normal coming of age movie. Unlike wallflower where they have good lighting and drugs in a high school party. Ugh... The movie has good acting everywhere. Most actors look too old for their roles. Only Rebecca has the look of a high schooler. My original thought was that the movie was probably an overdramatization but the story is interesting if for no other reason than seeing a movie about society's obsessiveness with fashion. https://www.facebook.com/NickiTheBlingRing Upon further review I can see that my original thought was correct, it is an overdramatization. http://www.policymic.com/articles/44817/the-bling-ring-movie-where-is-the-real-life-bling-ring-today It's entertaining.
