But this episode is just terrible, Arya part makes no sense. There is no justification. I dunno, I don't think this season really deserves to be considered on the same level as the previous seasons. I've never posted about GoT on here or Reddit, but I think this season has been extremely underwhelming. We've had a bunch of plots that have gone essentially nowhere and we've had a lot of big reveals/build-ups for no payoff whatsoever.
For instance, the Dorne plot that was abandoned after the first episode. Or the big Melisandre reveal that ended up going nowhere. Or how Danaerys' story has been repeated ad nauseam for six seasons straight. I'm fine with slower seasons and more dialogue driven plot, but this season has just meandered around a lot of plots that are only tangentially related. They also reintroduced characters, only to have them only have a scene or two and then get killed off (the wildling Bran and Rickon were with, Blackfish, etc.).
I still think that the strength of the source material will be able to carry this show going into the final two seasons, but I'm disappointed with how this season turned out. There have still been some high points this season, such as the flashback reveals and The Hound, but I feel like the writers have wasted quite a bit of time this season on unnecessary plots that don't further the story.

Well it was about time that we saw the big purple guy actually do something !
And the king is such a weakling it's disgusting lol
Really good ep. I like to see when it challenges what people think should happen, it shows the directors are several steps ahead. It's a great season so far, just too bad that they reduced the format.

I'm really curious if there will be a Cersei and Tommen "why are you doing this to me" moment with Cersei trying to get Tommen back to her side. Would be amazing to see Tommen abbandom the faith so Cersei can unleash the Mountain and have that arrogant smirk while he kills people

Are we going to see and Arya/Hound reunion on her path back to Winterfell? Or maybe she links up with the brotherhood and decides she is going to get justice from Cersei? If she gets a mask from sexy jesus, I bet that is the road her story goes down.
And it’s the fastest path to Zombie Mountain vs the Hound, which is what we all want.

I like that we have come so far out that trial by combat is a good system and those who are against it - and instead believe a proper court system is the correct approach - are disgusting.

Or maybe she learns how to steal faces, given she did a decent job of removing the girls face, and Sexy Jesus teaches her how to apply them. Then she goes to westeros and starts stealing everyones faces and fucking with everything.

Arya's healing and escape was utter bullshit and has tarnished her entire arc. I like to think I am very good at suspending disbelief but that chase scene just shattered it.
|
They did a very poor job of explaining how long she was there for, but I assumed it was for a week or longer. I get that time is real mushy right now with all the distance between characters, but they should have spent half a second at least letting us know that Arya had been there long enough to heal up.
|
Not explaining the time that has gone past has been a big problem in my eyes. A simple "you've been sleeping almost all week, you should get some fresh air" by that theater lady talking to Arya would have solved that problem. But they dont really bother explaining how much time has passed and just let the viewer pick to whatever makes it most believable for him.

They've been pretty mushy on time for the whole show since the start really.
I guess it's kind of a necessity since sometimes one character will have several episodes worth of stuff going on while another will have a month long journey between episodes. Different plotlines can be a bit out of sync with each other unless they specifically reference or meet up with other lines.
The only place that really becomes a problem IMO is when a plotline just clearly has nothing happening in it for ages, and they start creating pure filler scenes which serve no purpose. A relevant example being the last few episodes where we've had the same stupid conversation between Tyrion, Grey worm and translator chick take 10 minutes out of each episode...
I liked how they did it with sam, where we had a few very short scenes of him on a boat while he was travelling. It both reminded us that he was spending all this time travelling, and they also used it as a chance for some relevant plot exposition, without actually taking up a meaningful amount of time.

I just rewatched the start and end of the episode. It looks awfully like she's just waking up from the milk of the poppy. Both Arya and the actress are in the exact same outfits in both scenes too... time mushiness doesn't even cover it. It's just lazy Dorne level writing/production.
|
I think Dorne in the show is dead rofl
|
It’s the nature of the show at this time. The long, protracted travel scenes were used in the past for world building and to add texture to the world and characters. But that aspect of the world has been fleshed out sufficiently, so the travel omitted. But it creates a problem for stories like Arya’s where we are unclear how much time has passed between scenes. But the Starks don’t have that problem, since we know it takes time to build up an army.
I bet it is a thing that after they cut all the episodes together they noticed, but shooting was over and they couldn’t too back and add a couple lines in there. Or maybe it slipped through.

Maybe Hound will kill Arya.
|
I also think it's weird that dieing hasnt seemed to have changed Jon at all.
|
He was already pretty sad and dower, so maybe it wasn’t a huge change? And he has had a bunch of close calls with death before. Maybe dying for a little while isn’t that much worse than almost dying?

Zombie Mountain vs Hound... not sure that's going to happen.
I think Zombie Mountain is going to be given a 1-way mission, as it relates to the Cersei/Quyburn rumor that the little birds investigated, and one of Brann's brief glimpses. "More...much more", it all kind of hints at one thing. Cersei and the nuclear option.

Zombie Mountain vs Arya would fucking epic.
That rumour, is it about Arya?

That rumour, is it about Arya? I don't see why. Cersei has a ton of immediate problems keeping her busy and Arya is not involved in any of them. Arya has basically no value to the world.
I would guess it is something to do with the High sparrow.

Its 100% pure wild theory about the direction of the character once she hits Westeros again.
