book versus show stuff
+ Show Spoiler [up to book 3] +I dont think anyone mentioned yet, but Marillion the bard died at the start of the fight, right? So I guess he was the character that dies in this season that doesn't die in the books until Storm of Swords (iirc, Littlefinger frames him for the death of Lysa Arryn after he throws her from the top of the Eyrie).

So due to Lady Stark
+ Show Spoiler +
Thousands will die and most of her family due to being inpatient....?
|
It was a good episode. I think they could've cut down the renly scene though. Not only was it not in the books, it was sort of over the top too. Seemed like it was just there to make the show seem more shocking or uninhibited.
There's only so much time in an episode, I don't think we really need 10 minutes devoted to a very unnecessary scene that wasn't in the books.
Also: I don't know if it was in the other episodes, but the music they played at the end credits was really really good.

pretty much, and that's only the beginning of Catelyn Stark's retarded actions.

Shit just got real.
+ Show Spoiler [opinion on the episode] + Wow that episode was crazy. And Ned would have raped jaime if his pussy guy hadn't done that. I hate that his right hand guy got owned by Jaime though, seemed like a good fellow. And omg this show is the best ever. I seriously can't express how awesome i think it is lol.I hope that Ned's older son doesn't do anything stupid..

the renly and knight of flowers scene was stupid and overly long. apart from that i think it was the best episode so far!
arya still my favorite character in books and movies

I'm glad my mom and her boyfriend didn't walk through the house when that was on lol. They would have been like WTF BRO?? But ya + Show Spoiler +it seemed kinda pointless but i haven't read the book so i'm sure it probably connects with future events. I would assume.

The Mountain(like 2 ft to short) fighting The Hound was pretty awesome, then Ed vs Jaime was sweet, made this the best episode so far. If you've never read any of the books a LOT of the subtleties are really easy to miss imo. It must be an entirely different show for those who've never read the books.

+ Show Spoiler [Book 3] +No, Marillion makes it to the Eyrie and becomes a favorite of Lysa. He dies in Book 3 when Littlefinger accuses him of killing Lysa - actually, Littlefinger killed her.

+ Show Spoiler +Thats exactly what I said... My first sentence was about the show, not the books. Remember there was the news that a male character would die in this season that doesn't die in the books until book 3.

That episode kicked all kinds of ass. Just to recap:
- A horse got MOTHERFUCKING CLEAVED IN HALF
- Dragon skulls
- The Eyrie and its prison
- Great character development (the Cersei/Robert scene is maybe my favorite of the series, also Littlefinger/Varys)
- Gay sex
- Breastfeeding six-year-olds
- Killer fight scenes
- Awesome Arya moment

renly scene was epic fail...they weren't so fragile in the books, Renly seems too whiny
. I actually didn't like the Cersei/robert scene either, theyre taking the most stubborn and heartless character in the book and turning her into a sympathetic character...
Otherwise, episode rocked

He's actually just as big, if not bigger than described in the books. Did you see the size of his horse compared to Loras'? Holy shit. Check out this picture, look at Gregor compared to the Kingsguard at his sides (and they're wearing helmets!):

(Book spoilers, not show)
Well, in the books it is never said outright, but there are a few minor characters who make mention of their being rumors about the relationship between Renly and Lorell, but only after + Show Spoiler + Renly becomes one of the 5 kings contesting the crown. I'm guessing the reason they put that in there is because, without it, Renly becomes a rather forgettable character for a good bit of the early story. This gives him some depth, explains some things that might be too subtle otherwise, and + Show Spoiler +provides a bit of foreshadowing.

I know Loras + Renly wasnt in the books, but why is that the only thing you're talking about? let's not make a 100% faithful adaptation, the beauty of G.O.T is that its the book, but at the same time it's something new so that im not watching the exact thing i read.
let's be nitpicky as hell! there were WAY more then 1 dragon skull,
Varys and the other dude came from a secret passageway disguised as a wall.
Ned and Jory were attacked on horseback and a horse died, fell and crushed Ned's leg.
No mention of the bastard girl's name.
Tyrion was in the sky dungeon BEFORE he first was confronted by Lysa.
Tyrion fought with a battle ax against the hill tribe (THAT pissed me off, i was really looking forward to that)
so I like seeing Cersei in a different light, rather then the cold heartless version from the book, it's nice to see that despite being a bitch, she's still a human being. I don't mind that Renly and Loras had this huge scene because it's got important dialogue. So far there are only 3 changes that i'm displeased about
1) Hound isnt fighting in the tourney 2) Tyrion didnt fight with an ax 3) the Hound and Sansa's relationship was completely ignored.

+ Show Spoiler + I think he makes it out alive. He just got hit by a stone in the head at the start of the fight; I seem to remember someone stumbling clumsily back to consciousness at the end of the fight.
He's unimportant enough to accidentally kill off and bring back to life without much... Furor, I think.

I was looking forward to the Battle Axe too.
Rest of the episode was awesome though, and it ended right where I decided this was pretty much the best series I have ever read.

Yea Renly seemed a tad bit too whiny but I agree about the Cersei/Robert scene. Cersei is supposed to be a cold hearted bitch you are supposed to hate not sympathize or even pity. Other than that episode awesome and can't wait for more.

Only 5 more episodes left. I have a bad feeling that the ending will be rushed
