well, your opinion is wrong and misinformed dude. This happened in the book and it's nothing like spartacus. Even then, Spartacus was a fun show, but in case you're missing the intrigue, let me spell it out for you
1) Varys and the guy from Penthos plotting to kill Ned 2) them two talking about what Jon Arryn found out 3) finding yet another bastard from the king 4) Lysa Arryn and 'the seed is strong' 5) Ser Hugh killed as a cover up 6) the Lannisters' attack on the wolf and its future repercussions, the king LOVES Ned, what's he gonna do to Jaime now? 7) Varys and Paetyr both threatening each other, Varys threatening to tell the queen about Paetyr's treachering and Paetyr (Littlefinger) threatening to tell the king about Varys' out of town visitors (guy from Penthos and follower of Vysaeris Targaryen) 8) The Dragon skull found by Arya that foreshadows many things 9) the comment by Loras about Renly being kings + Show Spoiler +Renly is the 1st one to claim the title after Robert's death and he is followed by Highguarden 10) Catelyn's actions and the repercussions that will have on Westeros 11) Tyrion meeting Lysa for the first time and how will he be able to escape this clearly insane bitch? 12) Tyrion meeting Bronn for the first time, something very important
need I go on?
also, there was not more sex in this episodes as in others, in fact LESS because Renly's scene was not graphic like the other scenes such as Greyjoy's or Vyserys' or Khal Drogo's.

Great episode.
Still not a fan of the added scenes (Robert/Cersei, Renly/Loras, Theon/Whore)...while on the other hand the Littlefinger/Varys-scene was awesome.
Happy that they kept the hound/mountain-scene...sick shit. A little sad they didnt show more of the eyre, especially the way up there, but meh...there are sacrifices to make in only 10 hours of show. :/
Poor Jory though..T_T
As for the next episode:
+ Show Spoiler [Book 1 -Spoilers, obviously] +I SO MUCH WOULD LIKE TO SEE NEDS DREAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (but i think they will leave it out ) Seeing Arthur Dayne and Gerald Hightower would be insane...plus it was one of the best pages in the whole series. I asked myself if they will behead a horse, seeing they did, i'm really looking forward to the "golden crown". Next episode should include: - viserys Crown - bran/robb in the Woods (osha etc.) - probably the death of robert at the very end - tyrions trial - nothing spectacular about jon i think
OMG SO HYPED ://

Seriously... can mods start fucking banning for not adhering to the rules in this thread?
I've read the first three books and am watching the series as it runs, so should be quite safe to read this thread and its spoilers and yet I'm still having shit spoiled by idiots who cant use a simple tag along with the relevant book description...

I understand that you assume I missed these points, but no I have not only a habit of watching every episode twice but I also pay a lot of attention to them, enjoying the plot. There were several scenes that were vulgar/cheap/boring, and lowered the tone of the show/ story. Catelyn's sister, the shaving scene, the fight scene at the end, the attack of the wild people on Catelyn's group. It all had much more of a set-piece feel to it than it should have in general. Right up and including Arya overhearing the men plotting about Ned. Just gave me a feeling of...'yuck'. Too obvious. I understand if there is all this info they need to cram in- because of the length of the books compared to the TV show. But they could have done it with more style and maybe a little selectiveness. The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal are great examples of thinning out plot and story massively but still producing an excellent work. The scene between Robert and his wife was really wooden from her, she is quite a poor actress imo. The dialogue was fairly eventful in terms of plot but really quite uninspiring and bordering on cliche several times. Compared to the dialogue of The Wire, some of the writing is making me facepalm.
All the jousting stuff was imo ridiculous to watch, I could have hoped the story might avoid A Knight's Tale -level characterisation. Here good guy, here bad guy. The sex scene between the greyjoy boy and the whore was just completely cringe-worthy. I'm not even going to go NEAR the 'blowjob' sounds of the shaving scene. I'm still really enjoying the show, just hoping the level of action-intrigue of the earlier shows can be maintained.

To me it's more complicated than that. Loras wins the fight with a trick and even Sansa is shocked that he would do something so dishonorable. It's true that he is the knight in shining white armor but the truth of the matter is that underneath he cares more about winning gold than actually fighting honorably.
In my eyes that fact alone makes the scene more than just good guy versus bad guy but when you add in the fight between the Hound and the Mountain it makes things even more complicated. The Mountain is the Hound's brother and yet the Hound was willing to step in and fight him to protect Loras. This would make sense if the Hound was portrayed as a good and just character but the scene where he runs down and kills Mycah already establishes that he is heartless and cruel.
This is definitely a "shades of grey" situation and most certainly not a good vs. evil or black vs. white one.

These books were awesome I just hope the series does it justice I wish I could watch this but I don't get HBO. The legend of the seeker series was kinda a let down compared to the actual wheel of time series so I'm not gonna have too high of hopes.

I think people are way too damaged by comparing the show to the books. Just enjoy it for what it is -- an adaptation. I loved tonights episode, I realise this is as much a drama show as a fantasy show, but they do need some excitement, some fighting and so on to keep it watchworthy for everyone who isn't comparing it to the books.
The scene between Robert and his wife was a bit "wooden" as you put it, but it feels necessary in a way. I don't think they've portrayed very well this far how much of a sham the marriage is, honestly I was really confused for the first three episodes as to who Roberts wife actually was since the two has barely been in a scene together. I had to look at the family tree posted earlier to realise that they were married. (Also when I realised that the scene in the tower was incest, didn't dawn on me earlier).

the renly/loras scene was so stupid and unnecessary, as was theon scene, but the action was good and im actually fine with other modifications they made in this episode compared to the book.

This. Dunno what sc4k is talking about saying the jousting was "here is good guy, here bad guy". Who is the bad guy in the situation? Ser Loras used a dirty trick to win over the mountain. Completely cheating for his win

This is hilarious. Couldn't disagree more on any point.

Uh? Are you trolling? Legend of the Seeker was based on a different series, the first book being called "Wizard's First Rule"
And the show was as mediocre as the book.
Regardless... Wheel of Time is a completely separate series by a different author.

It was more the presentation of it. Like I have said a thousand times, I really enjoy the plot. I just don't like the more lewd scenes. Besides the jousting scene wasn't as objectionable as the others I mentioned. And to that other guy, seeing as you disagree on every point I made, did you enjoy the blowjob sound effects??

The Loras and Renly scene was SOOOO bad. Why did they put it in? Completely changed Renly's character.

I didn't realize it was Renly until he said he referred to Stannis as "older brother."

I feel like they want to push boundaries for the sake of it. A lot of the scenes are unnecessary and I think a majority of people would say the same. Especially when you're watching it with friends/family it's just embarrassing.
I'm not against portrayal in this way, I just don't enjoy it.

The books are more graphic. Not sure how it would be embarrassing to watch with friends, just don't watch it with your mom.
I don't see them as "trying to push the boundaries" but trying to remain faithful to a book in which human beings - wait for it - have sex.

If the books are a 10 this show is a 5.5. Complete disaster really.
I just don't understand why they're not sticking to the book 100%. A lot of this 'character development' that they're doing is actually changing the characters themselves.
Joff's character has suffered (believe it or not) from the wishy washiness that's been shown on the show. In the book he's an cruel ass but in the show he's a dumb ass.
They neuter Cat's character..
Renly turned into a pussy. : /
I feel that the only good added scene in this entire show so far is the Varys/Baelish scene. I may be missing one but no more than that. Thank God that at the end of this season book 5 comes out. It's not too late for this season to turn around but judging from the first 5 episodes the rest will be just as bad. Then again, book 1 isn't half as good as book 3 and 4 anyways.
