Ikr. I kinda lol'd when her secretary said there are 212 more lmao.
also TIL that King's Guard cannot marry? Also Tywin wants Jamie to leave King's Guard and rule at Casterly Rock , but in season 1. Barristan said being a King's Guard is a sworn brotherhood and their vows are for life?
Which was true until Joffrey dismissed Barristan from the Kingsguard, something that before was completely unprecedented.
Tywin is trying to use Joffrey's example as a loophole to get Jaime out of the Kingsguard, which is a place he never wanted him to go in the first place.
Amazing episode, wow. That trial was just so well done.
There is no way Shae would have such a marvellous story planned, she must have been hired, likely by Cersei or Tywin.
Poor Reek man, that was just another super sad episode all around for him. It's like shit out of Shakespeare, so dark. Both when he was being rescued by his sister (although I agree the scene was silly and unrealistic, Ramsay is getting cooler though), and when Ramsay is like, "I need you to pretend to be someone you're not", so sad
And for the trial by combat. I think it's pretty obvious it will be the Mountain vs Red Viper... It's the title of the eight episode for crying out loud hah. Only logical choice... Cersei would get the Mountain for sure, and Tywin being pissed as well would likely want someone to ensure victory. I feel like bringing the mountain might complicate things with Oberyn being there though, so maybe he opts for a different knight? Such as Loras or maybe Jaime, I imagine Jaime would say no though...
And Tyrion has nobody to fight for him. Bronn is being questioned or is locked up or something, Jamie seems crippled, and he'd probably rather keep his life than fight the mountain, which really only leaves as Oberyn as Tyrion's champion. Tyrion doesn't really have a relationship to any other warrior that would have a remote chance of defeating a seasoned knight.

In the conversation with Jamie Tywin says something like "there is a precedent" and suggests the king can relieve Jamie of his vow. Not sure about the exact wording. But yeah in general Barristan is right.
Tommen can probaly release him of his service, like they did with Selmy. They controle Tommen, so shouldn't be too hard to get it done and Jaime's missing hand gives a reason people will accept.
I'm pretty sure Shae was being used by Tywin. Tywin never had any real intentions of killing Tyrion, his entire plan was to use Tyrion as leverage for Jaime imo, and so he probably also made a deal with Shae and promised that Tyrion would just be kicked out.
So tywin always had that backdoor deal or letting mountain/obyern meet. So he chooses the mountain to be his champion, and oberyn volenteers as tyrions champion?
So that way if mountain wins then the dorne prince is no longer a hassle. Tyrion gets the wall, jamie goes to casterly rock. All is well
Or oberyn wins, stays a strong ally to the realm against incoming dragons, Tyrion gets free or something, jamie goes to casterly rock.
I imagine jamie volentering to defend tyrion and oberyn taking his place. I just don't see bronn going in for this 1v1. Or he does and loses, please don't let that happen. bronn is the best.
Anyways i'm glad they finished up that greyjoy raid, i was worried they were never gonna finish that. Such hype! i can't stand the idea of the season being over
Are you suggesting Tywin had it in mind that Oberyn and Mountain would fight like this? Because there's no way in hell Tywin would expect Tyrion to choose trial by combat and it wouldn't benefit him if Tyrion dies.

I agree with you that Tywin didn't plan/isn't planning Oberyn vs The Mountain, but why would Tyrion staying alive be better for Tywin?
It seems like everyone wants Tyrion dead, so not killing him will only make Tywin look weak to the public, no?
So that way if mountain wins then the dorne prince is no longer a hassle. Tyrion gets the wall, jamie goes to casterly rock. All is well
From my understanding , if Tyrion's champion lose, he will be punished accordingly (execution?) . Isn't the Night's Watch option only applies if Tyrion confessed and begged for mercy ?

Did no one catch Grand Maester Pycelle saying "Mormont is spying on her for us?" to Lord Varys in reference to Danaerys? Jorah has been Varys' spy on her this entire time!? Season 1 started with him already on her side, so we didn't get to see him join her with his motives like we did Ser Barristan Selmy. So what is Ser Jorah's motives for spying on her this whole time, and now supposedly truly being on her side?
Also, no one seems to have mentioned that the Iron Bank appears to have decided to fund Stannis. Ser Davos had a whole booklet of silver stags to give to Salador for his service to Stannis' cause apparently?

No dude he was Varys' spy but switched sides, can't remember exactly which season. This was known before today's episode, it's Pycelle who was unaware
E: Wasn't it around that episode when the wine seller tried to poison Dany?
I have enjoyed the twists and turns that trial by combat has brought to the show thus far, but I really dislike how irrational it seems in comparison to everything else in Westeros. With kings of intellect, reason and mind games like Littlefinger, Olenna, Tywin, Varys, etc. it seems like such a petty idea has way to much power in allocating right and wrong.
I mean, if they really believed that the gods would let the human's know who is right by letting their champion win the combat match, why would it matter who each person chose to fight if both sides believe they are telling the truth? By their rationale, my grandmother would be as effective at fighting the Mountain as Bronn if Tyrion was innocent. Likewise, if the fighter had something to do with determining the truth of the trial by being more skilled/stronger than the other fighter, what is the point of a trial by combat where the gods decide the victor?
It's such a shallow gimmick in my opinion that at least deserves more history and background in the show to try and explain some of these loose ends.

Varys also said that Mormont is no longer spying for them and has joined Dany.
And yes, Davos had new money for Salador so it is logical they got the money from the Iron Bank.

Varys said Jorah has stopped and is entirely devoted to her now (or at least seems to be). We just don't know when he stopped.
We already knew he was spying on her back in season 1. When the wine merchant tries to give Dany the seemingly poisoned wine, Jorah stops him and asks him to drink first. He refuses, and that leads to him being busted, caught, and dragged naked behind Dany's horse. And right before that, he receives a royal pardon from a kid saying "the Spider sends his greetings", so we can assume it was one of Varys' birds. From then on, it seems he's decided to ignore the royal pardon and stay with Dany. Who knows what he's done with the royal pardon though. Could be he still has it lying around, just in case.
