Personally I'd prefer the show that focused more on the horror rather than racism in the 50's.

No thank you There are some horror elements to it, but it's JJ Abrams and they've even shown the monster in the trailer so I wouldn't hold my hopes up on this front. Also, I don't really get the obsession with Lovecraft Country as a name. Sure, he might've been racist (google his cat name) but he didn't inject his political views into his prose (I know, unthinkable in 2020).

There's been a few low budget straight adaptations of Lovecraft of middling quality. But I think my favourite heavily Lovecraft-inspired film is In the Mouth of Madness. It has its flaws, but its hitting close to something with the surreal cosmic horror.

My favorite movie with Lovecraftian vibe is Dagon from 2001. The closest so far to get the cosmic horror right would be this year's Color Out of Space, really well done.

The only real Lovecraft thing here is that the title is a reference to him being racist. That's what the book was about too, there were some evil cultists and such but it's mostly about racism (seeing how one of the main characters is the author of The Safe Negro Travel Guide).
