To me, this is Guillermo Del Toro's tribute to his influences in Japanese film, kind of like how Kill Bill is Tarantino's. They're both kind of b-movie lovers who somehow transcended those roots. Of course Del Toro's is a creature flick and Tarantino's is a revenge thriller. But you know Del Toro watched the old movies where guys in foam suits fought on a set of miniature Tokyo, and he couldn't wait for the day he could make one with today's CG. Unfortunately, I think the oddball premise might turn some people away, like the part where the hope of humanity rides on giant robots fist-fighting sea monsters. A friend of mine saw that and kind of shook his head, but honestly, how serious are you supposed to take sci-fi? In any case, I hope it'll wreck face at the international box office, especially the Asian markets. Also, they can potentially sell a lot of toys.

Humans are fucking useless in a fight in water, so you'd think a robot in the shape of a human would be equally useless. It's probably worth checking out, but probably not worth watching in theater or imax. I saw the trailer when I went to watch Man of Steel and it looked like it was going to be stupid as hell. Yes, because realism is bound to be this movie's strong suit! The whole premise of the movie is simple: giant robots fighting giant monsters. If you want realism in your scifi, go and watch 2001: A Space Odyssey. Yes, this movie might be absolutely terrible (in fact, there's quite a good chance it will be), but it won't be due its lack of realism.

I think it's more due to the fact that if we were to control a big ass robot with good precision which is controlled by our body motion, then a human shaped robot would be the best choice? if the fight really occurs at deep sea, then at least they can just add in some equipments to help out I suppose

One of the robots has a rocket in the elbow so it can throw punches harder. It has a ROCKET POWERED PUNCH! Another one has three arms and is piloted by Chinese triplets. Why have realistic when you can have awesome?

Oh yeah, for those who are going to see it, stay for the credits. Normally the cinema's here leave the lights off to let you know there's more in the credits but for some reason they turned on the lights and I darted out only to be told by another friend there was an extra scene. + Show Spoiler [for people who watched] + When that scientist drifted with part of the kaiju's brain, why did the other kaijus know who he was? I mean the brain wasn't connected to anything else? That merchant said it was a two-way street, but the kaiju was freaking dead?

I really enjoyed the battles, even if some parts didn't make sense. Story/characters was as you'd expect but who cares, right? This is one of those guilty pleasure films. + Show Spoiler + tell me why the fuck was the sword the last option instead of the fucking first, building giant robots to inflict blunt force trauma as the first option seems incredibly stupid I recommend watching it in the dollar theaters and later.

+ Show Spoiler + LOL Team Australia, they needed more screentime. Also, extremely happy that the teams make sure the monsters are dead. They could have gotten a much better movie if they just went all-in on the robots versus giant monsters instead of half-assing it for both. The fight scenes were good except the shitty plot actually interrupts it all. + Show Spoiler + tell me why the fuck was the sword the last option instead of the fucking first, building giant robots to inflict blunt force trauma as the first option seems incredibly stupid I recommend watching it in the dollar theaters and later. This was a plot point. + Show Spoiler + Blood, internal organs, and shit poisonous enough to kill small cities without immediate treatment/neutralization. Ripping them apart without partly cauterizing them with thermal weapons is a last resort, especially in a partially-evacuated city.
