I don't think a scene like that doesn't need to be explained because the audience can get the gist of what is going on. Weyland giving the order really fits his character. It reminds me of how the Nostromo crew was labeled expendable by Weyland-Yutani in Alien. The only issue I wonder is whether or not David was altered to be Weyland's personal android. If you go to the viral website and go to the David 8 page, the mass produced model behaves a little differently than the David we know that was on board the Prometheus.
Really? If you've seen Alien then this was really obvious. Weyland doesn't give a FUCK about anything and are perfectly willing to do crazy shit to get what they want.

TBH, the original Alien film was not considered a "classic/cult" movie until like a decade later, it had terrible reviews when it first came out. Anyway with that said:
The movie was far from the worst, I think RS delved too much into making you delve deeper into the plot to make some meaning out of it. I think he also banked too much on a possible sequel to finish the story. Overall I liked the presentation/ideas that have been brought out by the movie. But I was left with boat load of questions and no answers. So hopefully the movie gets a sequel and we get the damn answers.
-The idea that Jesus was one of the aliens(engineers) is interesting and that because we sacrificed him the entire Engineer race hates us. That don't make sense as to why an entire race which is vastly superior to us judge us so harshly when we are still so primitive.
-2000 years ago the Engineers were running from something on LV-223. It is evident form those holographs that David played that the Engineers were very desperate in their escape form whatever the thing that was "chasing" them. This make me think if they actually might of brought some humans from Earth to experiment upon. What if whatever they were experimenting with on us, i.e. the black goo turned us into some sort of terrible bio-weapon. It's certainly possible that the Engineers did not think of the effects the goo would of had upon us. I mean just look at Alien, Predator etc. movies, all stating that we are somehow the "ideal" host for the xenomorphs. Then during Prometheus we also saw the effects the black goo had on us. Maybe the Engineers saw us as a major threat due to this and decided to wipe us out. I mean just judging by the Engineer that was woken up, how quickly he killed everyone and tried to get to Earth as soon as possible.
Anyway those are just some of the things that went through my mind.

The quality of a movie depends on whether or not you see it in 3D at a huge theatre.

Prometheus is one of the most visually beautiful movies ever made, yes it does make a difference.

Yeah, some of Ridley Scott's movies are usually better when a director's cut is released. It wasn't until later that a director's cut or an extended version made a lot of people change their mind such as Kingdom of Heaven (extra 40 minutes). This is happening to Prometheus as well since they plan to add about 20 minutes to the blu-ray/DVD release.
This relates to your last point. Another theory that has been circling various forums that I go to is that if humans were created in the Engineer's image, then they would consider us a threat when we get to an advanced state such as space travel, building androids, etc.

That last point you have made also makes sense. They have just created another species that will compete with them and because it's a genetic match, that species might have same potential if not greater then their creators. So it makes sense if that "Jesus" point was right when they sent their emissary and he was killed, saw us as too violent and tried to wipe us out. But still leaves the point of what happened with that small "accident".
Some theories I've seen state that xenomorphs have been around for a while and that the Engineers know of them/crated them. Maybe the xenomorphs crated from human hosts were too dangerous? Oh well, lot's questions, hopefully a sequel or those extra 20-30minutes build upon it :/....

finally saw it tonight. i thoroughly enjoyed it.
i think the majority of haters are people that assumed this was an Alien prequel and demanded answers. this was assuredly not a prequel, and i have no idea why people presume that it is especially after Ridley said it wasn't a prequel. Prometheus is an entertaining movie about a group of humans exploring a distant moon. it is related to the alien movies because it takes place in the same universe, but it is not a prequel.
here are my questions: what the fuck was the green rock? what did David say to the space jockey (i know ridley already said he won't tell us)?

I feel it wasn't a direct prequel to the Alien movies but more of a prequel to the Alien universe. It set up a foundation to be built upon, leaving lots of questions for people to ponder and theorize about. I have been keeping away from forums of people discussing it because of all of the hate but there are so many things I loved about this movie and am excited to see if they will make more. The Alien/Predator universe is one of my favorite sci-fi universes right now.

One thing I still haven't really figured out is the opening scene. I'll spoiler my questions: + Show Spoiler +Did the engineer expect to fall apart after consuming the black stuff? It didn't look like it. Was the scene on the same planet as the rest of the movie? Is the scene the origin of man?

+ Show Spoiler +The way I understand it, is that he's some sort of terrorist. They developed mankind because they could, but realized that it was a bad idea, due to how powerful mankind would eventually become. So they developed the "Alien 0.5"-bioweapon to eventually destroy mankind before it was too late, but the "engineer" as you saw in the opening scene consumed the "virus" and destroyed the whole facility.

Sorry but thats wrong They did not develop mankind cause they could, they planted life on our planet. Thats why we get to see the dna cells in the water in the start. Its from there life blossomed.

I agree that seeing a movie in the cinema almost always make it more enjoyable, and I did really like the visuals, but there are lots of things about the STORY that doesn´t make sense, or isn´t explained except through vague hints, and that brings it down despite the amazing visuals. If visuals can make a movie even without plot, then a movie could be pictures of a mountain range, with a choir in the background. It´s beautiful and mystical and hints at hidden meaning, but it´s not a story, just eyecandy.

no, it is never said why exactly they created us

Also I seen people mentioning that whatever caused them to become angry at us happened 2000 years ago. Where in the movie is that number established? The biologist died. When they returned after the storm, they found both lost scientists dead. The biologist had the snake in his throat and it jumped out and scared a doctor. Then Halloway got worse and everyone got out of there quickly, leaving behind the dead bodies. The biologist was not reanimated because he was killed by a thing, while the geologist was killed by the black goo, so his corpse should still be in the room with the big head.
They established that whatever happened on LV-223 happened 2000 years ago by Carbon14-dating the headless alien corpse. Carbon14-dating should presumably work since LV-223 had a similar sun and similar N2-levels in the air. It would require the Engineers to actually eat local food though, but we never saw any signs that they actually grew food on their planet.

Ah, tnx. Must have missed the snake jumping out scene. BTW, how did the worms get to the room with big head? were they worms that lived outside? (I don't remember the scene where they get picked up by the shoe, only when they get off and fall near black goo.

Doesn't change the fact that, that is what I think, as initially stated.
