Also about the new berserk anime: how is it supposed to be in the form of movies? Like Hellsing Ultimate OVAs type of thing?

The story in it is interesting, the characters are great, and, unlike Berserk it has 0 ratings below "Decent" on ANN.
Then you should read the manga because the first 5 pages is of him screwing a chick that he knows was a demon and then used his cannon arm to rip her face off after he "finishes" his man business first of course. Incase you didnt notice, this is manga and not anime. The anime does not do it justice for cutting alot of scenes that were to gruesome and left with a mega cliffhanger.
I didn't like Berserk because I didn't like the setting, the characters and the story. Demons from hell, eternal suffering, mercing around, cannon arm blahblahblah. Booooooooring. Shigurui is much better, it's more down-to-earth (but still borderline fantasy), gritty, and dramatic. There is great character development involved, awesome antagonisms, secrets and twists.

Ah well, many people have different opinion on setting. I have watch to many samurai setting and have grown tired of it. Such as Samurai Deeper Kyo, Basilisk, Ninja Scroll, Ninja Resurrection, Samurai X, Samurai 7 etc etc etc....that it just got borrrringgggg.
I personally like berserk because the setting is more unique then just a simple samurai setting that has been over used. Like seriously, when do you see a guy that carry a big sword, with a cannon in his arm, going into war as well as fighting demon as well.
I am not saying that the show your recommend is bad at all. I am definitely going to try it out after watching that guy sliced up the 2 guy faces and set them on a plate. It definitely looks very gruesome and twisted and definitely worth a shot as well. I am just saying that although you say Berserk is boring to you because of the setting, it is definitely more unique then another samurai setting.
Thanks Manit0u for reminding me about Shigurui. I loved the anime but put the manga on hold because it was not fully translated but just checked and its completed. Gonna start reading soon.

Are you kidding me? On ANN the manga has 25 ratings unlike berserk with 977. You want to base judgement upon that lol.
The anime has plenty below decent with its only 485 ratings compared to the 3582 of berserk.
I watched the first 2 episodes of Shigurui and thought it was kind of meh.. more like violence only for the sake of violence, but maybe I will watch it again.
Anyway imo when it comes to anime AniDB is far superior to ANN when searching for new quality stuff.
I love berserk and eagerly await the new anime series re-make but man, that manga is seriously taking forever to finish. I hope the author doesn't pass away before it's fully completed because at this rate it seems there's several years left until it's done.
there was a blog topic about it a while back that said that it was a realistic/dark samurai manga and since I really like vagabond and berserk I started reading shigurui
omg that blog was the biggest troll post ever
It's more like a overdone samurai horror manga than anything else

Thank you. I've been on a good manga search for quite a while. This one is genius.

Homunculus is good. It does have a dark tone to it but it can get freaky weird sometime....and like seriously freaky weird but it good.
I didn't like the anime that much (compared to the manga it's low budget, short and contains some filler episodes when the main plot could have been) but it ends at the such a good point in the story that I just HAD TO read the manga.
The manga is definitely the best manga there is, even though it's released so slowly .

However I actually can't even remember anymore why they are going to the fairyland. I'm not kidding so could someone refresh my memory...
The whole reason the entire party is together in the first place...to get the bitch's memory back. Bitches love their memories. Basically this is playing out to be a role reversal at the surface between the two main characters.
The problem with Berserk is that the chapters are released really sporadically. I believe that the magazine it's published in is bi-monthly but for the last few years we've only been getting like 10-12 chapters per year if that.
I would also argue that the story has some pacing issues, after the band of the hawk arc (what the anime covers) it feels like a lot of the arcs move at a snail's pace with some of them not seeming to have a lot of repercussions to the main story. The main goal of Gutt's band right now is to get Casca to the Elfking so he can supposedly cure her mental deterioration and we've been trying to get there for it seems like over ten years (the manga has been going since 1988 I believe). A good example of the storyline malaise is what's happening right now, I don't understand how the island there on with the sea monsters/pirate monsters factors into anything, I really don't.
I am looking forward to the new anime/ova/whatever that they're putting together though. I like the style of the story if nothing else.

Don't worry, Aragorn lives till 200+ years old, you've got a long way to go.
