This is the only anime I've watched that made me want to read the manga (not really huge on anime but this is excellent). I've only read a bit so far but it's very good.

Abit of Information about the new anime.

Its going to be a couple of movies (I dont know how long or how many) instead of a series of episodes. So the whole of the manga wont be covered. Thats all I know although its a bit shady with all the details how its going to really turn out. The first movie is said to be coming very soon "halfway through 2011" is a official statement. But since we are there already... I dont know. A month or two maybe?

And yes this is one hell of a manga! Easily a top 10 manga for sure and I have read ALOT and most of them are very good (that I have read) so all I can say is that this manga is godly good... Has a very very deep story and is very well-made. Definitely recommended!

My favorite manga of all time, I already read it multiple times, so good.

The release rate is really low, but it is normal considering the insane number of details and creativity put in each page.

Eh, maybe I'm in the minority here, but as much as I love this manga, I don't recommend that anyone read it past volume 14. It's astonishing just how bad this series becomes after the Golden Age arc is over. It feels like the author has completely forgotten what made the series so great. Nowadays, when I read this manga, I feel like I'm watching a bad JRPG. None of the new characters are as memorable as the original hawks, and the kids are especially annoying.

Of course, the first 14 volumes are just about the best manga ever created, bar none.

Okay I just read through the first Volume in about an hour and I love it so far. Very very dark, gruesome manga, just my kind of thing.

I beg to differ slightly. The manga is awesome all the way till Volume 21. In fact, the Dark Tower arc is the highlight of the manga for me.

Then, it goes downhill...almost indistinguishable from any other shonen manga.

Since we've got so many enthusiasts all gathered here in 1 place can any of you recommend a similar manga? Dark/Gruesome and awesome? Or smth with a nice medieval setting? (not necessarily european medieval, but I'd prefer people with armour on and fighting with swords/axes/spears and the like.)

Also about the new berserk anime: how is it supposed to be in the form of movies? Like Hellsing Ultimate OVAs type of thing?

I really liked the golden age arc but after that my intrest kind of dropped.

As far as i can tell though the golden age arc is one of the best manga's ever.

It's called Homunculus. It's not medieval but it is dark. Has some of the best artwork you will ever find and is probably my favorite manga ever, not that i read all that many because easily 99% makes me fall asleep past the first 5 pages.

Well, you can still try Vinland Saga (first chapter here if required). It's not as dark as Berserk but it's pretty good and i like the way the story is writen.

Berserk is easily in my top 5 manga of all time. Only downside its the pace of the chapter release lately... sometimes it goes on a 6 month breaks.

Im not sure about the Berserk movies but i think it will be something similar to NGE movies.

Vinland Saga is really similar to Berserk minus the supernatural/fantasy setting. Other awesome manga that i recommend are : Akumetsu , Battle Royale , Sanctuary, Gantz, Vagabond.

I just finished reading Berserk about a month ago and say that its a very good manga. People made it out to be very gory/violent but I found Battle Royale and Gantz to be much worse in those regards(which is also recommended).

As with other awesome manga, the only complaint is about when the story will finally finish and time between releases. Epic manga with epic antihero and villain (what a bastard).

I am halfway through the first page on the thread and the background music switches to "Forces (God Hand Mix)" And I am like: What? O_o

On topic: I love this Manga and Anime and like many others I fear that it will never ever end. I hope the movies can hold up to the material.

But when I compare the stuff we see at the moment then I have to say it does not compare in any way to the plot around the Elves of Misty Valley (Hell it does not compare to most of the things we have seen so far). That arc (?) was intense/shocking/horrifying. This was the best part for me. I really would like to see that on screen.

And why did he ever introduce kids to this story? why? I mean something to lighten the mood to contrast it with the horror and gore okay! but kids?

It's one of my favorite mangas but the rate of release (like 5-6 chapters per year, small ones too with no real progression) is what kills it for me.

The author, if I recall correctly, has stated he doesn't really have the motivation to finish it. This side arc (that has lasted for like 3 fucking years) seems like he's just stalling because he has no idea how to finish it.

A great manga ruined by a bad mangaka, if that makes sense.

Only Anime I have watched at least 20 times. At least. Character development kicks ass.

Pretty sure the new anime is going to cover the entire series...besides the tweets saying it will cover the entire manga, the trailers show griffith from the golden age arc, puck, gutz in the Berserk Armor, the hill of swords scene, Zodd in the Golden Age...That's a huge timeline there.

Guy in the thread already said it's going to be movies, sadly. I hope it is series and not movies.

You can find video trailers on youtube. Search for "berserk 2010" or something
