Or smth with a nice medieval setting? (not necessarily european medieval, but I'd prefer people with armour on and fighting with swords/axes/spears and the like.) Also about the new berserk anime: how is it supposed to be in the form of movies? Like Hellsing Ultimate OVAs type of thing? 12 kingdoms isn't nearly as dark but it has a medieval setting... it's called junnki kokki or something in jap.

It's often compared to Berserk in a good way/bad way. Berserk fans seem to enjoy denigrating it as a worse version of Berserk though I actually like Ubel Blatt more though I read Blatt first. Both feature anti-heroes, share a magical medieval setting and use gore, but I would say it's like how shounen mangas are similar to each other. Once you finish the sort of "prologue" story you'll understand why Ubel Blatt is interesting. Ubel Blatt is currently on hiatus though, but apparently Berserk has pacing problems too. Another recommendation would be Claymore. A group of female warriors called "Claymores" protect the general population from monsters called Yoma, the thing is "Claymores" are half Yoma so risk turning into a monster when they use their "yoki" energy. Despite it being mostly females this is not a fan service manga. The manga also takes a while to get interesting, I would say after the Teresa arc is where it starts to pick up. You can also watch anime for about 20 of the 26 episodes before it starts detouring to an anime specific ending. You will miss some foreshadowing and some things will be different with the second main character near the end.

as Guts is leaving the hawks. Specifically his conversation with Judeau. It also has the best, most tastefully done and meaningful sex scene of anything ever. I like where the newer chapters are going though. Berserk is the kind of thing you give all the time it needs, like a Blizzard game. Halfway through the Tower of Retribution I didn't expect it to be such a meaningful and important arc. I'm actually more excited than ever for the future of the story as the most significant event since The Eclipse happened a few chapters ago. I also welcome the new characters, especially Serpico. I don't know how long Guts and Puck could have carried the story or survived wandering around alone. Ishidro isn't intrusive and Shierke has grown on me.

Iono, I am starting to feel the opposite of how you feel. Right before this arc where the world get all funky, it feeled like the story was heading somewhere.+ Show Spoiler + I mean, Skull knight was collect behelit and guts got the black armor and discovered that his sword has been magically enchanted due to the countless demon he slain etc etc etc. My opinion is that their need to be some significant or progression after fighting all these tentacle/Sea God. My theory is that Mermaid Girl is probably going to join the gang after this is all over. If she doesnt join the crew then that mean this entire arc is completely pointless....or someone is either going to gains something of significant. Otherwise this arc is completely pointless as far as I can see because I feel no progression from this arc at all.

The Sea God thing certainly isn't the peak of the story, but its a fast-paced arc (if you ignore publication breaks) that should be ending fairly soon. Once we meet Hanabofuku I expect to see some massive plot twists and get hammered by all sorts of crazy knowledge. Give it time. Berserk is not a series that can be rushed.

Iono, it sure feels like it at it peak atm because they are killing the Sea God. If this arc is ending soon then that just prove my points that this entire arc was irrelevant. Maybe this arc was just to explore the new world that Griffith has created? Iono...beside that I am not feeling this arc that much.

My view on the arc is that currently things are getting better for humanity back on the mainland. While things are still going to shit for our main characters where ever they go lol

Seriously, it's not a particularly interesting sub plot in the first place, and he has taken so many breaks in between these releases. I wish he would continue at this fast pace (for him anyway) and end the manga with the next arc or 2, because I will probably never finish it otherwise. To be honest, I was initially eager for this arc BECAUSE it was about exploring the new world. Unfortunately, this arc has proven to be the most disappointing one in Berserk yet. Plus it's stalling the real story from continuing.

Shigurui: Death Frenzy Berserk is child's play compared to this thing of beauty (I was amazed with Shigurui and Berserk bored me to death after 5 episodes). The story in it is interesting, the characters are great, and, unlike Berserk it has 0 ratings below "Decent" on ANN.

You really want to finish the whole series instead of giving up after five. Then you'll understand why Berserk is so good.
