I've always been a huge fan of HxH.
It was my very first manga (i weirdly started with tome6 when they learn about the nen) and now that i more or less stopped reading mangas/watching anims, HxH stands alone as the only manga I read. The Tome 29 is out and should be followed by tome 30 (around may or june in France).
But I never watched the anime, and now i am told there is 2 animes oO?? Should I have a look to both of them ?
What is this background story about kurapikos ??
My god I am lost but i am a down fanboy believer of HxH.

But these last few episodes have certainly impressed me, and I'm definitely growing quite excited as it progresses through Greed Island and hopefully the Ant arc (which has been my favorite so far). If you've dropped the 2011 like I did previously, give the last few episodes another shot (57 and on).
I don't really understand why people don't like (didn't like) HxH 2011. The animation is better, and it follows the manga much closer. It was the intended original IMO. Aside from the music, which is just a nostalgic reason, I would say HxH 2011 is better than its predecessor. It's the same thing as FMA vs FMA Brotherhood.

I personally find the 2011 version less enjoyable compared to the original. Most people have already mentioned similar points; too kiddy-like overall (theme and music), not dark enough, do not like the voice acting on Gon, to a point he actually annoys me at times. I also don't like how "nen" sounds in the 2011 version. It lacks essence. Oh, and Hisoka's voice actor, I miss the old one. His voice was unique and matched Hisoka's personality so well.
Ideally, for me, if Hunter's anime can be on the same level of Berserk OVA series, it would rank right up there in my top 3 list.
Obviously this comes down to personal taste and preference, so there isn't really much to debate about. I'm 29 this year, and I started reading Hunter when I was like 15. A lot of anime these days have just toned down a lot which is just not my thing.

I thought the manga was back , still good news!

Well I don't really see many people complaining about the 2011 anime being too much for kids once we get into the Chimera Ant arc
about ant arc + Show Spoiler +I don't know why but when Pokkle and Ponzu died the way they did it kind of got to me, mainly because I usually hate it when a character I kind of like dies in a super one sided way, and I also thought they both had interested abilities but w/e it really made me hate the ants.

man Im really loving these episodes they are really well made, cant wait for the new arc :D

The way I see it I'm just wondering what your kid age range is because there aren't a lot of kids say 8-12 yo. watching these types of anime like HxH. I actually got into HxH 2011 during a preview at a expo. But you're right about the Chimera Ant arc; there'll be less kids watching it if there are responsible parents knowing what kids watch.

Friendly reminder: The ant arc (where the old anime left off) starts tonight! The new anime has been really well done too so far, so should be awesome.

idk man, this arc is more dark/violent than the pasts arcs, it has more adult (non child) content imo but the japan schedule is for kids i think so maybe the censorship could ruin this arc. Still looking foward to this new episodes

2011 hxh is definitely hit or miss, and i think it lost a lot of the charm and poise from the original series, but im still glad they are finally at the chimera ant arc

I've been waiting for today's episode for almost 3 years now... that's about when I finished the original series and raged at how it ended. I've always been big into anime, but the original HxH series coming to a premature end was a big enough push to get me into manga. Now I've already read the entire HxH manga and I am so fucking excited to see the ant arc in anime form. Here's to the next year of the (imo) very well-done 2011 HxH anime!

man cant believe this is finally happening! I enjoyed the first episode of this new arc even if they changed GonxKite story. I wonder how are they going to handle this in the future. So far I really enjoyed the 2011 version and have faith they will do a good job .

Like others, I am SO glad they're doing chimera arc. The old hunterxhunter stopping made very sad. I hope they have a lot of content to work with, from what i've heard the manga is going at a very errr not so steady pace

The episode is way different from what I expected but I guess it's for a faster pace. But the episode itself was quite slow.
According to chapter/episode ratio, the whole Ant-Arc will be around 55 episodes.
+ Show Spoiler + They may not introduce the group of friends. Faster pace introduction of character and training arc with the other 2 disciples. More detailed and easy to understand introduction of the powers of everybody and the 'Spiders' may have more screen time like they did in Greed Island.
And the characters you see in the opening are SOOO COOOL!

the opening! hoooly shit, cant wait to see the fights

They better not loosely adapt this. This arc had some bad moments but when you read it again you can see how it builds up to Gon + Show Spoiler +, and his relationship with Kilua.
Also I liked how + Show Spoiler +the assault on the palace was told. You knew the strategy and objectives behind every decision. It wasn't stupid shonen characters throwing powers at each others... Hopefully they keep it that way.

Are there any dubbed version past the game thing? (that's where it stopped when i was watching and I don't want to read)

Hunter X Hunter is the only manga where there are actual tactical decisions, when the characters face a stronger opponent they either come up with a plan or outnumber said opponent. Other mangas always resolve conflicts with head to head battles because: A. It would be shameful to fight 2 vs 1 (even if the fate of mankind is on the line) B. Fighting with more than 1 people would mean the strongest one wouldn't be able to fight at his best because he would have to protect everyone else (which makes no fucking sense) C. If fights were won with strategy and tactics, we wouldn't need unforeseen power-ups midfight ("new" rasengan/ Hollomorfing/ Intervention of supposedly dead characters)
It's also one of the only manga where the characters don't explain their powers to the enemy like morons and actually often bluff on what they might be hidding in their sleeve.
That's what makes HxH so fucking great, it's actually well thought out.
