Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book.

Though after him saying they should all leave and then going "If you obey my rules you can stay", I'm very wary about the farm people. It seems like they're hiding something, which the whole you guys going "there's something in the barn" kind of confirms.

Are you kidding me? Can they not do a scene without the characters having to ask these questions aloud? Ugh. Just when I think they might put together an exceptional scene Lori comes in and makes me want to throw my remote at the TV. Its like the writers are trying to fuck it up, or they think their audiences' average IQ is the nearing that of the zombies. Agreed. Scenes like that would be so much more powerful with less words spoken. The actors are good enough we can figure out what's going on without needing to be told. I'd be more forgiving but they've done this in just about every episode this season. I don't recall the writing being this bad in season 1, maybe it still was, I don't know. It just aggravates me to no end because someone on that set had to have the same sentiment. If we can point this out, they had to know as well. Spoon-feeding the masses man. Its a shame. No it was definitely that bad in season 1, don't you worry.. But you're right, that completely ruined the scene. I also have to note how horrific the writing was for the pharmacy "love scene". She basically said "fuck me". In the end it was a filler episode in every way, shape, and form, with a VERYYYY predictable twist at the end. I mean seriously, did anyone not expect that? I thought they were going to bring it out earlier though to be honest. When they showed the first sex scene between them, it was pretty obvious it was going to have consequences. No, it was nowhere near this bad in season one, though that may have been helped some by the really great tension that filled every episode. They're making some really amateurish mistakes. It's not just the "are you putting them away" kind of spoon-feeding, which is annoying but understandable given the average television viewer. Look back at last episode. What the hell were Daryl and Andrea doing in the woods at night? I mean, I know they were looking for the little girl, but beyond that. Why would you write that? It didn't add to tension for the episode. We didn't really learn anything new about either character. Their relationship didn't develop in any significant way. They didn't learn any useful or enlightening information. The scene isn't used to foreshadow or as misdirection for a twist later on (like convincing the audience they were in real danger, only to have a "safe" location like the camper or the farmhouse attacked). Hell, I don't even really care about the missing girl. She's not an important character. I had almost forgotten Carol had a daughter. The whole scene served no other purpose than to distract from the other plot lines, which, frankly, weren't that compelling to begin with. This is the sort of mistake high school or early college writers make. It really is creative writing 101. I would have guessed the mystery object + Show Spoiler + almost certainly one or more zombies. I'm guessing it includes at least one family member or close friend

Well given the amount of emphasis he puts on god, and if they really do have zombies in the barn, I would say the reason behind it is something along the lines of "This is the Apocalypse and god will fix them when he returns, therefore we need to keep them alive/safe until then". As a bonus, they may even have been capturing travelers and feeding them to the zombies inside the barn before this. Though that's a pretty big stretch at this point.

It was a total waste of time. The writers are almost certainly just trying to fill time. If you're going to write a scene, there better be a good reason for it. An hour (~45 min with commercials) isn't a ton of time. Most of this season has felt like total filler. Don't get me wrong. There was filler in season 1 too, but it was compelling, tense, or otherwise interesting filler.

But, I'd like to draw a comparison between this season and the season 1 episode where their camp gets attacked. I remember that episode being slow paced, borderline lethargic, until BOOM, zombies come out of the woodwork and people start dying. I think that this season, while slow, is going to follow the same path.

I thought they should have put the whole barn zombie fiasco into this episode since nothing really else happened....

Still, I think most of this is due the the comic author's great job in not injecting racial stereotypes into Glenn's character and not any good writing from the part of the show's writers. In the comics Glenn is pretty much written like how a white character would normally be written without the racial gimmicks. Thank god for that.

He also has the best attitudes and instincts. BTW I am pretty sure they were foreshadowing when shane was talking about what would happen if they find the girl and she was bit or a zombie and the farmers daughter had a disgust look on her face.

He's got the balls to go out on his own and the only real tension in that episode(other than that joke of a scene involving the well) involves Daryl in that empty house. Start killing off some characters or something, kill Carl or something so Rick goes apeshit, whatever.
