Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |
Oh season 1 is only 6 ep's. That sucks.

That aside, the episode wasn't necessarily bad, it just slowed down and then tried to speed up and then slowed down more... No sense of tempo is what really made it feel "off". The scene between Andrea and Amy was one of the most convincing "oh no, my loved one is bitten, how can I ever cope with it" scenes I have ever seen. I felt a personal and emotional bond with the characters which after only 5 episodes is unusual. And the mercy killing was written beautifuly too.. I cringed during that whole scene I thought it her reaction was aweful. But whatever, people react differently to shit like that anyway. All in all I've enjoyed it and I will never understand people thinking it's bad still wanting to sit through an additional 5 hours of it.

But if thats what you want then go watch 28 weeks later or play left4dead, don't critizise the show for continuing with a trend that has been around since the late 60's.
But 28 days later is fucking awesome! Anyone who is a fan of this show should check it out.

The show can only grow and expand from the first season, I hope.
In any way, It fits a unique niche, is a pretty original season, and just great.

What's the big deal with that? That is common when it comes to horror movies or shows. Characters rarely pick up a weapon or equipment. It was like in the earlier episodes where Rick was stuck in the tank. Maybe the tank had no fuel, but if it did, he could have driven it. He could have used the machine gun that was mounted on top. In this episode, we saw a lot of left over weapons like the mounted machine gun, M16's, armored vehicles, etc. Then again, it takes away the survival horror aspect, but I don't mind too much since it is common in these types of movies/shows.
You ever try to drive a tank? They don't exactly have steering wheels. Also, The machine gun mounted on top was probably some type of CROWS system, meaning it was remotely controlled from inside the tank. Not exactly user friendly stuff. I agree with the rest of the post though, It is always frustrating to see people in these types of shows just totally ignore weapons.

Most people don't know how to deal with the recoil of a semi automatic much less how to operate and take care of one. It's not as simple as point and click boom headshot. Include in the fact that ammo is probably scarce and guns weigh a lot, to take time out to pick up guns and hope they work when you need them too instead of being jammed from sand or dust or whatever is kinda stupid. Also, guns=noise=zombies be coming. Aside from having a few firearms on hand for emergency situations, I'd rather have a crossbow or some sort of blunt force object. Crowbar works well in a pinch.

Its pretty much the same as driving a motorcycle, but in a real Abrams he would have had to traverse the turret to the back to get into the drivers hull and that probably would've stumped him.
For the machine gun, yeah he would've had to operate the 50 cal from the inside.

I have to agree; in a show with imminent dangers around every corner, a high tension group dynamic, I always have to roll my eyes with a very long drawn out "oh my (insert relationship partner here) has died, I am completely immobilized." Additionally, i just felt no emotional ties to the characters, and nor do you get an undying sense of devotion to the group, or even a hint that it is going in that direction; it just feels like the characters are just "there."
Heck, I actually have more emotionally invested with the doctor/scientists inside of the CDC in the 5-10 min you get to spend with him at the end of the episode than I do with any of the characters.
|
The preview made it seem like a lot would happen between the group and the scientist. I wonder what will spark it and how it will turn out.
|
I'ts going quite far from the comics but I'm interested how this whole scientist will evolve. First I hated the idea but then again the lonely semi crazy scientist goes well with the theme of the show.

What's the big deal with that? They had children with them and very limited mobility. Not exactly the right time to be scavenging around a zombie infested city especially since if a few zombies attack them then they have to shoot them which makes noise and attracts hundreds of zombies. They abandoned their camp and used all their fuel to get to this place. They are not going to screw around for a few extra weapons and blow their entire mission. They already have guns.. now they need shelter.. why would they scavenge for more guns? I mean, it seemed like they didn't have to scavange for guns, since they were litterally two steps away, I dont think it had anything to do with mobility. Why would they scavenge for guns? To have more guns, just in case the ammo runs out. I think it'd be better to collect more weapons and have a bigger storage of weapons, then wait until you ran out've ammo, and then scavenged for more guns.
It's getting dark and there are zombies around... Would you stop and search for weapons while a hoarde of zombies closes in on you or would you run straight to the CDC building and try to get in?
It's amazing how every one always bitches about "they didn't get teh weapons!!11!!11!!' but never think about the time it takes to scavenge said weapons nor the weight of the weapons. The weapons don't weigh ounces ya know. Carrying a lot of them would be difficult and just slow everyone down.

Damn, he sounds pissed. Sounds like he watched the episodes, got fed up, and then decided "alright, you're ALL fired."
Kinda interesting how the show will go on. If Darabont takes a more active role in writing the episodes I think the quality of the series will increase, the first episode, which he did, was easily the best.
|
Glad that the writing staff was fired, they weren't good.
Hopefully next seasons writing will be better. Because this show has a lot of potential.
|
I just started watching this show, finished 3rd episode half an hour ago. How long was the main character in coma? I don't think he was in a coma for more than a month, and for his wife letting go of him so soon...it's kinda meh:|

God i'm very happy about the changing of writers, actually quite thrilled about it...
As it is right now i'm just hoping that Daryl kills everyone and season 2 turns into us following Daryl going around Crossbowing everything, hell the asian guy could go with him with a camera and they could make it like a hunting show. Daryl Hunters lol hell i'd watch and rewatch that over and over

This show is awesome, entertaining, doesn't have any retarded gimmicks. Pretty badly written, but that just follows the convention of zombie films- seasoned fans won't bat an eyelid. Why does someone need to be a seasoned zombie movie fan to criticize the show? It's not billed as a hack-n-slash zombie film, it's billed as a human drama where characters are brought to their limits. That type of show can be enjoyed and criticized by anybody.
Sorry, that came across as quite douchey of me. But I would like to address your point about this being a human drama-
I would say that zombie films basically are all human dramas where characters are brought to their limits. Very few, in fact probably no respected zombie films are hack 'n' slash. You can criticize the show, of course you can, anyone can; but a few people have made comments that make me think 'if you knew what it were like to be a true zombie movie fan with lots of zombie movie watching experience, you might understand how great it feels for there to FINALLY be a proper drama series done about this most awesome of genres'. It's kind of hard for me to explain my mentality without coming off as obnoxious.
I'm basically just so happy this show is being made . ALSO, very happy about the writing staff being fired. There's probably 100's of people who could do a better job.

This thread is starting to get mean now. The writing wasn't terrific, but I dunno about "YOU'RE SO BAD, GODDAMNIT YOU'RE FIRED!". "Glad" they got fired? "Very happy"? Jesus, I feel sorry for those writers if they're this hated.

Very happy to see they were fired, this sparks hope in my that this can be decent.
