Sorry but a lot of the people complaining about this don't strike me as seasoned zombie movie fans. This show is awesome, entertaining, doesn't have any retarded gimmicks. Pretty badly written, but that just follows the convention of zombie films- seasoned fans won't bat an eyelid. Just a nice, watchable *lengthened* zombie movie.
All zombie movies have a LOT of people to people interaction. Whoever is saying that they are focusing too much on characters is out of his mind well let's just say I disagree strongly. The well-established convention in zombie movies is short periods of turmoil followed by long periods of development.
As far as questioning the choices the people make, I know a lot of people who are not only too stupid to think of the basic things they have in this show; but who are loud enough and forceful enough to get an entire group to follow their actions. Don't overestimate humans in a time of crisis. The same goes for the morality- for example the cop almost killing the other cop. His most ugly, base and instinctive emotions come to the fore because he is in an ugly and instinctive world now- where all the barriers of modesty eventually break down in peoples' minds- and the effort everyone has to make is to keep them in their minds and prevent them spilling over.

Production on season 2 starts in February. I am guessing it will begin to air in late summer/fall.

I don't know how much more of this show I can take. I was initially excited but the writing is really starting to suck: The complete lack of common sense of these people makes me want to see them all fail and die.
Things that irritate me: Everyone in their area is pretty much dead and they choose a fucking campground to hole up? Not only is that not safe(zombies>tents), but I know there's gotta be some mansion style houses in the greater Atlanta area. Why on earth would you hole up in a campground?
I also like how they have designed a new version of the M1 Abrams. Not only is it about half the size of the real one, but it has a Russian style hatch underneath the tank and about 4 times the room inside compared to a normal Abrams. Yeah, yeah I know I'm anal about this but I'm a tank crewman in the Marines so I'm gonna bust their balls about it.
No moral gray with any of the characters. I was ok with the main character until he decides to abandon his wife and kid(that he was freaking out about finding btw) and try to rescue that disgusting nasty of a hick Merl. The people are to often portrayed as either complete jackass assholes or someone trying to become a saint.
Just to many eye rolling moments for me I guess is what It boils down too...

I thought it kinda made sense that being way out in the woods would be a little safer than staying in a house. Also to me it seems a lot easier to find food and water that way. But I suppose you're right, he could have stayed with his wife and made all these good decisions that keep everyone safe. Then we could watch a show about people talking and rebuilding the world rather than intense zombie action ^^ Are you the type of guy that yells at the tv when people make bad decisions? D:

They had children with them and very limited mobility. Not exactly the right time to be scavenging around a zombie infested city especially since if a few zombies attack them then they have to shoot them which makes noise and attracts hundreds of zombies. They abandoned their camp and used all their fuel to get to this place. They are not going to screw around for a few extra weapons and blow their entire mission. They already have guns.. now they need shelter.. why would they scavenge for more guns?

I think part of the problem is, if you've seen enough zombie flicks, you've seen enough of the "oh no, my loved one is bitten, how can I ever cope with it" scenes. Writing aside, it's just a standard.
That aside, the episode wasn't necessarily bad, it just slowed down and then tried to speed up and then slowed down more... No sense of tempo is what really made it feel "off".

I think a lot of the problems will be addressed with the next season. They have offed a lot of extra characters already which is great. I wish they could recast Lori though. I think the actress that plays her is one of the weakest on the show. Although, that may be because she does a lot of crying which almost never well acted.
The parts of the show with zombies are fantastic though. Aside from the zombie hopping over the fence, that better never happen again.

I think this was more of him trying to get back his walkie talkie that was in his weapons bag to talk to the Father/Son that helped him get back to health / explain what was going on.

I like the opening credits of this show. Too many clichés and stereotypical characters right now. Other than that, I'm trying to give it a chance to improve. The potential is there I guess.

This show is absolutely amazing. But it's so.damn.hard to watch. It's really dragged me into it, I end up caring about every single character and I just sit there cringing at every little perceived danger. It has an amazing atmosphere for a television series. I don't have any problems with the show at all, and that's coming from someone who has seen nearly ever zombie film ever.

I really like that people actually die. I dont like the main character really, he seems too easy and just A4 material of a good character, you know, the regular saint and hero.
Still, this is the show that I first watch on mondays, my nr1 show as I love zombies.

LE Ahem, music seems to be Adagio in D Minor
Bear Mccreary, cmon dude!

This is not a poorly-written show. I'm just curious--what shows do you think are written better? Because there are probably over a hundred shows that are written far worse than Walking Dead, and Walking Dead also has amazing production values.

This show and Boardwalk Empire make Sunday my favorite night of the week. This show is so well done and the plot twists so far are amazing!

I mean, it seemed like they didn't have to scavange for guns, since they were litterally two steps away, I dont think it had anything to do with mobility. Why would they scavenge for guns? To have more guns, just in case the ammo runs out. I think it'd be better to collect more weapons and have a bigger storage of weapons, then wait until you ran out've ammo, and then scavenged for more guns.

Why does someone need to be a seasoned zombie movie fan to criticize the show? It's not billed as a hack-n-slash zombie film, it's billed as a human drama where characters are brought to their limits. That type of show can be enjoyed and criticized by anybody.
I was on the edge of my seat in the first 2-3 shows, but it really started to slow down...Rick finding his family was a huge anticlimax for me, I was expecting way more drama in the love triangle. Then they go to the city to retrieve Merl, and nothing comes of it; the episode is basically filler. Then that guy gets bitten, and rather than some drama where they're racing against time to save his life, they just leave him on the side of the road. These are just a few examples, but this show is anticlimax after anticlimax, always building up to things that never materialize. It has no dramatic tension, and most of the characters are not very likeable.
It's too bad; stuff like this is right up my alley, if you gave this series to Chan-wook Park I guarantee he would be coming up with something to blow your mind, not turning the series into a cliche.

So the Wildfire thing, the CDC guy said it was day 164 or 194 since WildFire and day 62-64? since the disease spread globally...
Anyone know what WildFire is??? Did they know about the disease that many days ahead and tried to contain it but failed?

The scene between Andrea and Amy was one of the most convincing "oh no, my loved one is bitten, how can I ever cope with it" scenes I have ever seen. I felt a personal and emotional bond with the characters which after only 5 episodes is unusual. And the mercy killing was written beautifuly too..
As for pace and tempo all good Zombie films ever made have more slow time than frantic action. That is a defining idea in the genre. The show should always be about the interaction between characters and not mindlessly killing zombies. But if thats what you want then go watch 28 weeks later or play left4dead, don't critizise the show for continuing with a trend that has been around since the late 60's.
As a fan of good TV drama, Zombie films, and Frank Darabonts style I have to say this is an amazing pice of work.
(and I would much rather be camped out in the open with various escape routes than in a mansion where you could easily get cornered and eaten)
