Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book.

if you're having trouble following along, you can always toss me a pm. seriously though, I'm chilling until sunday and will keep any thoughts I have then short because it's apparent that 1) most people clearly won't read point-by-point posts 2) too many of these posts lately are about me and not the actual show.
While I disagree with large parts of his criticism and his opinion I don't think he should shut up. Maybe its not the right place to discuss, because lots of people just don't want to, but I think he's wording what he writes very well and everyone here should be free to speak his mind in such a manner.
I for one agree with most of what Exile posts. This show - especially season 3's return - is mostly poop except for small moments of glorious television. Like, first episode of TWD was absolutely amazing. The rest of season 1 sucked balls. Season 2 was shit except for some cool intros, some cool parts with Shane and the mid season finale. Season 3 kicked up the awesomeness levels and right up until its return I was recommending this show to my friends saying it doesn't suck anymore.
These past two episodes have changed my mind, this show is still kinda sucky and the only thing that keeps it afloat is my fascination with the idea of a zombie apocalypse. If you had these characters + the writing in any other television drama I think I would have stopped watching long ago.

Well, glad to hear. First step of getting better is admitting what's wrong in the first place, after all.
I don't even disagree with most of what you say. Yeah, the show has a lot of flaws, and a lot of those flaws lie in character development. The show could (and used to) be a lot better, and there are scenes that make me roll my eyes, too.
But you come here on every other page writing paragraph after paragraph of what's wrong with the show, in quite regular intervals. And it still gives me the impression you're writing another long, ranting paragraph as soon as people have stopped responding to your last one.
This isn't a debate club. This isn't about winning your arguments at all costs. This is a thread in appreciation(!) of a TV show on a random internet forum. No one is going to endlessly argue with you just for the sake of it.
I agree with Exile, this show is trash and wasted so much potential. The writers are bad and should definitely feel bad for pissing away an opportunity for a SICK zombie survival show.
Really, we ask for so little. -More violence/gore -Exploration of moral gray areas -Character growth/decay/change -Intelligent decisions by characters
There is no doubt this show has returned with a lack luster sort of feeling. the two episodes that have aired were pretty dry as far as action goes, outside of the prison assault.
With that said, it is WAY too soon to be shitting on this show. People love jumping the gun on calling shows terrible and pointing out all the flaws. Give it some time for god's sake.
While he doesn't present his complaints in the most appropriate fashion, TheExile19 is bringing up a coherent argument for legitimate grievances he has with the show. Although it's more prevalent in fanfiction, "Don't Like Don't Read/Watch/Play" sadly escaped over to other mediums as well... to the detriment of everybody.
Don't Like Don't Read is a double-edged sword used by fans that want their cake and to eat it too. If you watch the show, dislike parts of it, and post specific complaints, fans will ask you why you even bothered watching it in the first place rather than attempt to counter the argument presented. However, if you dislike a show and haven't watched it, fans will ask you why you hate a show you don't watch.
This is dishonest of fans in general, and TWD is no exception.
In a series (trilogies, comics, television shows still ongoing, etc) there is a high chance that the answer to a complaint will be answered in due time. If an issue is presented and an answer isn't forthcoming given previous material or background, reasonable and articulate complaints can be made that the show/series/books are destroying your Willing Suspension of Disbelief.
Willing Suspension of Disbelief - The trick you give your mind to watch something that can't happen or isn't realistic and accept it as long as it's internally consistent.
Do I share some of TheExile19's concerns? Yes, and I love TWD. It's overall a pretty good show, and I'll continue to watch it. At the same time, I don't share all of TheExile19's beliefs on the failings of the show. However, being a fan of a more positive mindset does not relegate myself, and by extension other fans, to the role of a zealous die-hard fan willingly overlooking all possible blunders. Even my use of Fanon doesn't cover all the gaps.
Fanon - When a fan creates an internally logical reason to cover an apparent Plot Hole and not in contradiction to the stated explanations of the work's creators.
In summation: Be more honest with yourselves about the show.

This is actually something I have had a problem with in this season of TWD. While I enjoyed the first half of season three, I really dislike the person on person fire fights the show has been doing recently, because it doesn't feel consistent to me. When the show is mostly about the choices people make, and what humanity will become during a zombie apocalypse, I'm willing to excuse things like the extremely high headshot rate on Zombies while in a moving vehicle, but when that is scrapped suddenly so that there can be a gunfight with no major characters dying, it frustrates me. To see an action sequence of entire clips being emptied with absolutely no hits.. it's not what I watch the show for, it's not consistent with itself.
That's an issue most directors have; they can't portray firefights correctly. Whoever's in charge of TWD firefights seem to have some idea of what a firefight is like - a lot of suppressing fire and time spent behind cover. That's about it. There was an awful lot of concealment = cover going on.

The things is that TWD show has never been even close to realistic when it comes to guns. From Hershel's magical shotgun with unilimited ammo to everyones incredible markmanship that allows them a 100% zombie headshot ratio no matter the distance or situation.
Also, the whole firefight started with the wounded Governor landing a headshot in his first try with a Steyr AUG from long range. The whole thing is just retarded.
You can still enjoy TWD if you shut down your brain, but it just reeks of B grade movie with the very rare moments of brilliance.
I just started watching this show last week from season one and I'm hooked! I knew nothing about the series/books before watching this last week. This show is so damn good and I had heard in the past season 2 wasn't as good, but it was bloody fantastic! I guess it wasn't good for people expecting a zombie show, but just from watching it I could tell that zombies are just secondary and it's a really character driven show. The characters are all so good and interesting. I love how that's the direction they went cause just killing zombies over and over would get old fast.
Darryl is my fav character cause he comes off as a bad ass who doesn't care about anyone in the beginning but he really shone in season 2 with the search for sophia. I really don't know why people didn't like season 2. It was great! Finally caught up to the latest ep yesterday and I can't wait for next ep! Kind of sad I didn't start watching this show sooner, but then I also didn't have to wait for eps and could do a marathon viewing session last week from the beginning.
I do want carl to slap his dad and go, "Stop fucking hallucinating man and pull yourself together. I'm just a kid who shot his own mom and I'm not as messed up as you!."
I can proudly say that it has been confirmed that Canada is working on preventing a zombie apocalypse from occuring in the future. And will work with the USA in this important endeavour.

Agree. Most of the things in the show is ridiculous, but I still love it regardless. You are right about firefights between humans. A lot of people believe that firefights is what you see when you play Call of Duty or Battlefield. The director has the right idea, but it was not executed properly. It was cringe worthy seeing the characters shooting their weapons with unlimited ammo and non-existent recoil.
and the Abominable Andrea Addresses continue. "why can't we just get alooooooong... "
45 minutes and it's been nothing but setup and a payoff for a subplot that shouldn't exist, i.e. andrea needing multiple arguments for why the governor is a nut and why singing kumbaya isn't an option.
holy shit she's going back to woodbury. why? why is the only good music in the show being played for andrea driving away?
