Discussing the show and past episodes is fine. Do not put things that have happened in the TV series in spoilers. However, don't spoil things from the books that may happen in future episodes. Put book spoilers in spoiler tags with a CLEAR WARNING that it is from the book. |

Your posts dominate the entire thread each week, because people tend to respond to extremely negative posts in threads aimed at fans for the show. So yes, I am forced to read your posts.
One might almost think that you enjoy getting all that attention each week.

Anyone else draw the connection when Rick was talking to Hershel through the fence that it was kind of like a confession? Like a guy talking to a priest through the screen? I thought that part was really well done.

yeah, I guess two episodes in a row really proves a trend
no, I haven't thought about hyperbolic applications of something that doesn't apply to me. furthermore, you aren't owed a forum where the standard is "oh man oh man what are these crazy kooks gonna do next?!". criticism dominates threads like these because that standard is a bore and people are willing to shift away from it, especially to defend something they (inappropriately) think needs defending.
to xivsa, "dumb, boring, talkative bullshit" is internalization of awfulness. that wouldn't be tolerated on nearly any other show that wasn't specifically about the exploits of dumb, boring and talkative people, but this is TWD and the entire world grades it on a curve because zombies.

After the truck drove through the fence and unloaded its cargo of around 40 zombies, a guy in heavy riot gear jumped out. Who was he, and what happened to him? He looked like a total pro.

I was 99% sure that was andrea until someone here or on AVclub mentioned that she was with milton doing something during the raid. I think it's just a random guy until next episode proves it was tyreese or something.

Was wondering the same thing. For a second I thought it was Glenn because of the 'armored' clothes, but probably just some follower?

No, it's not awfulness. I'm trying to put it in words and phrases you might understand. The bullshit they do and say is what makes the show as interesting and well done as it is. You don't agree with that, and that's fine, but the show is fine. The focus isn't on the zombies; some episodes have only a couple of them anyway. Sort of like how Battlestar Galactica wasn't about cylons, but it's a talkative, people show centered on the crew. Similar thing with Walking Dead, it's about the drama-filled lives of the survivors. And it's all the better for it.

I still don't really get the whole attack. Granted, they killed a random guy and now there's some zombies in the field, but.. eh. I suppose we can explain everything with "the gov is batshit insane" from now on.

i...i've said that i know what the show is about. at least twice in the past two days i have mentioned the creeping dominance of the character drama over the action due to the natural restrictions of the genre re: survivor groups gaining more and more competence and skill at surviving.
what you are saying is that all things considered, you would prefer bullshit over well-written and interesting dialogue with a cast full of round characters - basically a sexless, boring soap opera of an apocalypse, which at its worst TWD resembles. this is so unbelievable to me, so much more cynical than i could ever be about the viability of this genre as something that people who aren't watching the show for HURRR zombie kill of the week would actually care about, that i'm just going to let it be.

I watch the show and I like it so far. This episode war kind of different to those before, I think. It had a lot of content although it was kind of presented in a stupid way. Glenn and the others discuss about, whether they can stay in the prison or if they have to move and then a fucking truck drives through the gate making it clear that they will not stay much longer.^^
I have a question though. Am I just dumb or does the governor have his eye injury on the wrong side in the preview?
|
I think I caught a filming mistake!
At 2 minutes when Rick is walking down the stairs, he straps the machine gun around his back with the nozzle pointed upwards. Next shot when he's walking towards the graveyard, the nozzle is now pointed downwards! =O...
Totally possible that the character could've just switched it around but lol, I just wanted to point it out anyway.

As has been stated earlier in the thread. He was holding a match up to his eye, presumably to cauterize it. Pretty sure you'd want to do that in a mirror. So the image you saw was him looking into a mirror as he is doing it.

The show is well-written and interesting, like I said. You're taking the bs comment too far. As far as being cynical, I don't know where you're going with that or linking it with genre. It's a great show. The end

They drove the zombies into the field so that Rick's group would retaliate against Woodbury and then Woodbury people would be forced to join in the conflict. That's why Andrea is leader. She would see that her own people are betraying them and will have no choice but to conclude that Rick's group is dangerous (since she hasn't been with them for at least a winter now?). And that's why they had that emphasis on her trying to figure out where the Governor went, because she's already somewhat suspicious of their intentions at the moment, maybe she'll be suspicious about who's fault it really is when Rick's group comes knocking.

I'm almost positive the person driving the truck was a girl, not that it really matters.

Yeah I thought it might have been Andrea at first too, but she's back at Woodbury with no knowledge of the raid. In Talking Dead, they basically explained that the raid was simply a show of force by the governor to the prison group. You mess our shit up, we will mess up yours too. Kirkman also said part of the motivation was for the governor to test the prison defenses, which proved to be practically nil. But yeah, I think it was mostly a retaliatory attack to intimidate the prison group.

Finally some TWD time again! Completely missed the first two episodes and had to catch up. Great to have the show back! Can't wait till Sunday!

So, on the Gov's side you have himself, a guy in his van, the hispano in the woods and a guy on the tower. On the other hand we have Rick outside the fence, Axel and the old woman unarmed out in the open, a kid with a pistol, an unarmed lumping old man, and two girls ages 19-24 with some automatic guns.
On top of that, the Gov, in a strike of tactical geniality, manages to realase a van with tenths of walkers inside the prision. Meanwhile, a guy with a crossbow and another with a knife-arm and a pistol join the fight.
You are the Governor. What is your move?
Retreeeeat!!!
It was really easy: 1) Position your men around the prison 2) Bust with the van and release the zombies 3) Start shooting during the confusion 4) Team Governor: Flawless victory!
|
He didn't retreat because he was scared. He wants them to suffer; to have the prison group have to deal with the emotional trauma of losing someone as well as losing a layer of defense.
He ended up on IGN's list of greatest comic book villains for a good reason.
