See this is the kind of confusion I was talking about, as it seems half community calls safe lane as the "long lane" and other half calls the suicide lane as the "long lane" (though I'd say suicide lane only should be called like that when it's soloed).

It's hard lane and easy lane. No room for confusion this way

Dota community was very fragmentated till recently, every community had it's own terminology, it shows

Why is it Radiant vs Dire instead of Sentinel vs Scourge? Is it because of Blizzard lore stuff?
Did this one caster at the International call Roshan "Ro-she-an" or was it imagination or is it a weird verb form of "to do Roshan"?
(Probably a stupid questions: ) When will DotA 2 finally be released? Hasn't it been working nearly perfectly for months now? I'd really like to get into it as long as there aren't a billion heroes yet. With every new hero the game gets exponentially more complex.
Are they converting every hero from WC3 DotA to DotA2 or are they leaving some out? How many heroes are in DotA2 compared to DotA already?
I realize I could have googled most of this, but I figured asking here is easier.

I realize I could have googled most of this, but I figured asking here is easier. - Yes, to avoid copyright problems
- You probably imagined it or the caster pronounced it wrong (they do make mistakes)
- They haven't announced a release date. There are still some heroes that have to be released, about 18 or so iirc. But yes everything so far is working perfectly, who knows what else they plan to implement though.
- They are going to convert every hero from dota1 to dota2; as I said they still have about 18 left to do.

Valve told us they doesnt have enough servers to make it f2p yet. Who knows maybe after International.

Just a quick question. Is Sniper a viable pick? I'm very new, but so far sniper seems like a very accessible champion. Amazing attack animation, and most of his skills are passive

To elaborate, the popular carries have huge mobility. Antimage and Morphling are extremely had to gank because they can blink/waveform to safety. Sniper has no such option and can be constantly ganked into oblivion making him terrible.

He has the HP of a wet paper tissue, no way to run away from anything and needs a ton of farm to be able to teamfight.

He's also really really slow.

For learning the game he's got very easy skills to understand but at the same time he dies pretty easily so you will almost certainly feed quite hard with him, whereas ideally he'd be the team carry. In pro games, he isn't viable at all for reasons stated above.

Thanks everyone who answered me. I was talking about just learning the game, but after watching some of TI2, and seeing morphling, I decided to be the same as everyone else, and play him. He's super fun, but I've only played about three games.
Having a mobility skill certainly helps me stay alive, however I'm not used to how fragile I feel, so I usually end a game with like 12 kills and 12 deaths. Anyway, I come with another question! Is there any universally acknowledged website with item builds, similar to how solomid is for league of legends?

calling morphling 'fragile' feels... weird, when you have str morph :p

Morphling has like 3, borderline 4 escape skills. He's anything but fragile T_T

The Ingame suggested items is all you need to get started. And it is up to you ( with experience ) what items to get afterwards, by reading the flow of the game. Sometimes it is better to abandon your farm to help your teammates out,..

To expand on this, don't be afraid to ask your team for item suggestions if you aren't sure what to get in certain games (not like "should I get boots or not", but mid to late game big item suggestions). People will generally just give their suggestions to you because they want you to get good items so you guys can win the game.. and it also inflates their ego when they give advice and it's taken anyway so people are always willing to give item advice like that.

Item builds in dota are much more flexible than in lol due to much more active abilities. You will often get items just for their utility and not optimal stats. You might get orchid on pretty much any farming hero if you need silence for example
