I mean yeah you could read up on all the heroes and their skills, but you won't visually appreciate things such as spell ranges.

-gold 999999 -lvlup 25 buy an Aghanims scepter(and boots, because if not you look slow as fuck) buy a lot of mana regen items(maybe bloodstone, lotsa void stones or orchids) or -lvlup 25 and put on wtf mode. and just spam spells for a while, if you do this you will gain muscle memory over time so you can quickly invoker while doing the real deal.

Conversely if you're just starting out in learning Invoker, before even playing I recommend: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/75495922/InvokerTrainer.htm The actual invoker trainer! I got to under 15 seconds in the Classic game before I attempted to start playing Invoker..... needless to say I ran a trainfest after I got the basics down. One of the most enjoyable heroes to play. Hi Fw Thanks, thats neat. I played him in some bot games instead for a couple of games until I could pull out every spell I wanted. Getting faster at it never hurts though.

Referring to things like should auto-attack be on/off and possibly hotkeys as well, items on numpad seemed a bit weird to me for one.

Adding to this-- Strong trilane presence with soul assumption. Strong map control presence with familiars--during midgame familiars + one stunner can pick off enemy supports easily. Lack of AoE, so not that great of a pusher (familiars can only attack a few times before needing recharge) and an even worse anti-pusher.

In trilanes vs trilanes, heroes easily take damages in exchanges which quickly bumps up the soul counter to do full damage. His passive also bumps up his resistance physical and magic resistance to withstand bursts of harassment, even at level 1 it's 4 armor+12% magic resistance. Visage was the king of trilanes and always picked by one team in the chinese shadowfiend/storm/lion era, before they nerfed him by increasing soul assumption's mana cost. If you can win a trilane vs trilane, you're dominating 3 of their players. It will be very interesting to see if teams start using visage to destroy trilanes used to protect carries (like morphling). Making trilanes more dangerous also weakens jungling play.

Personally, playing him solo mid I feel isn't that bad. Soul assumption mana cost is so high at early levels that I feel he can really benefit from levels to get items/reduce the mana cost so he can spam it more often in fights. Also, a fast level 6 can allow him to send his bats around to help his teammates.
