I remember one game where i destroyed this BH mid, but it was mostly because he was a weak player.
who would you be comfortable laning against as solo omni, and would you ever actually put him mid yango? I don't see why Omni shouldn't be able to just bottle rush->bottle crow just like every other melee mid can (Tide, Beastmaster, Nightstalker, etc.).
The main problem is that unlike other melee mids like those mentioned, Omni has fairly poor ganking ability. But in terms of just laning, he shouldn't have a problem.

I bought a ticket for the defence to watch in game, it's great, but is there a way to change the volume of the commentary relative to the game sounds?
It's hard to hear the commentary in fights over the game sounds.

Woah wrong thread sry. May as well ask somthing...does it really play exactly like in WC3?

yea omni is usually sent mid or solo suicide lane farm is pretty worthless on him but he's also a deadweight in lane so there's not much you can do you can play him in a duo lane but it's kinda awkward, works fine in pubs tho there's also cheese lanes like gondar/clinkz/puj/ds/etc + omni but they're not very good lol

EDIT: Sorry for double post I didn't notice it I was alt-tabbed from the game... melees it depends what hero you are with spiritbreaker you wanna lane with some kind of ranged support on the safe lane (solo mid is ok too) if you're dying too much as sb watch your positioning in lane, sb shouldn't go down very easily

There are a couple of differences though (firefly vs CM's bite, rubick stealing everything, etc). And the smoother engine can be pretty big for some heroes (and by that i mean pudge)

When playing CM with randoms, how is the captain determined?

I'm with you. I thought this would be added already with the improvements they've been making to watching games in-client.

A bit of google searching shows that you can't adjust the volume of the casters.
Hope they fix that soon, I want to hear tobi screaming black hole over the sound of the black hole.

Quick question:
Is it possible to play Dota 2 right now? I don't have any special beta keys or anything, but I keep hearing that you can actually play now even before release?
Thanks.

Thanks. There are currently two ways to get access to Dota 2. One is to sign up for the beta and hope you get an invite or you can buy an invite for 24.99 euro/dollars. The game will be free to play when it has a full release and the only reason they are selling invites is because they dont have the server capacities at the moment to accommodate too many players.

Free to play like League of Legends? Download client, install then play?
And are there any other bonuses for buying the invite upon full release?
Thanks again!

Yep just like League of Legends, just install and play. Bonuses for being in the beta upon full release i can't say, though Valve have given out cosmetic items to beta testers before, as was the case with TF2 when it came out of beta to full release and eventually became free to play.
Edit: Forgot to add that by buying the key you get some cosmetic items in addition to getting an invite to the game.

Technically the game isn't on Beta anymore, I believe that's something Valve confirmed. But they their servers are still not ready for a F2P load, so the ways to get in right now are either buying the pass, which is fairly expensive ($40 I think?) or getting a key from someone else, like it used to be in Beta. You get quite a lot of stuff if you buy the pass, almost making up it's full price I think, so for people that would spend money is cosmetics anyway it's not such a bad idea, but overall you should find keys for much cheaper than that.
Edit: Here's the relevant quote:
Q: Why would I spend money while Dota 2 is still in Beta? A: We don't really think of Dota 2 as a beta, but we also aren't ready for everyone to show up and start playing just yet. We are constantly updating the game with new heroes, bug fixes, and new features. None of the items you purchase or the progress you make will be lost or reset once the game is available for everyone.

So how are the majority of you guys playing? Bought the invite pass or getting it somewhere else?
Where can I try to grab one for *free* or cheap?
|
Most people got them before they were even avaible for sale, so other sources. The most common one is probally the official giveaway, followed by the one on Playdota.com, but the second one required you to have an account for some time before registering for it.
I'm not sure what would be the easiest way to get a guaranteed key right now, but there is no reason why you wouldn't just apply for it on the official website: http://blog.dota2.com/
The link is still there, so I assume it works. You just have to do a quick survey. I've heard of people getting it a few days after signing up, it's all about your luck.

Where can I try to grab one for *free* or cheap? Some off us got invited by valve or by friends and some of us stole a beta key from clown-faced hookers in Louisiana.
nowadays, though, the easiest and cheapest way is through http://www.reddit.com/r/Dota2Trade/ beta invites go for about 2 dota summer sale keys (~$5) , or for about $10 worth of TF2 items
