disruptor, witch doctor, lion, bane, jakiro - are seen very often at the moment.

- trilaning is almost gone, 2-1-2 is in
- anything makes laning easier

I've seen Skywrath in a few pro games now during TI qualifiers, but isn't he usually a 4th position? I can see the early harass being good, but is he still relevant without items or do you have to greed it out a bit and build an early Atoss?

But I'll try Sky, Warlock, Bane, Witch Doctor and maybe Jakiro. How's IO in pubs btw? Never played the hero but I still see it banned all the time so might be worth learning?

I think it's good if you play with a friend a lot. But without coordination relocate is just a saving tool which blows a bit. Also depends a lot on your bracket I think, it gets a lot better if your carry isn't confused for 5 secs that he got teleported.

But Io is nowadays more of a 4 anyways.

the way i see him played pos4/5, you go two nulls, two bracers, so the build up to an atos isn't even that bad. dont get arcanes, in fact i see people even skipping boots entirely until later

Just came back from a rather long break from dota too and was rather surprised by the state of support. Watched a few TI games and it seemed to me that pros were very rarely doing "usual support stuff" like pulling and stacking.
Is it just me that's completely blind? Or is it actually a side effect of what you describe?
I'm also curious as to what patch changes caused that to happen...

i thought everyone would be stacking after that stack assist gold change, but nope. winning lanes is super important now, so supports can't afford to leave lane to stack and do other things

Jungle creeps just don't give enough outside of ancients right now for there to be a serious stacking meta imo. And with the 2-1-2 meta, every lane is contested and contentious, so you can almost always tip the balance of power in a lane by being there rather than afk in the jungle stacking.

It's definitely worth taking the 5-10s to stack if you are right there and can afford to, but it's not worth spending 30+s to get in position and stack usually. Ancients are pretty value to stack, but you usually have to embark on a significant detour to do so and not every team has a hero that can clear them.

I think it's mostly a mix between two things mainly.

One being that laning just gives the most gold - jungle creeps being fairly cheap, as well as kills (early ones at least) being really not worth that much anymore.

And additionally, we've seen that it's just super important to have three cores with some farm. sacking an offlane, or having a starved offlane is pretty crap, so you rarely see anyone being left alone in lane early on.

The big 2 patchnotes that define this patch are that denying grants xp to the person who denies and that bounty-runes give increasing amounts of gold to the entire team every 5 minutes.
The first change leads to a very heavy emphasis on winning lanes, as that can lead to level advantages of 2 or more levels even if both sides stay in xp range. As a result leeching is very mediocre and supports job is more and more to secure static lanes. It's also the reason the last-pick of the game tends to be the mid hero.

The other one massively increases the income of the team that has mapcontrol. Which amplifies the importance of the laning phase and the first few teamfights to gain MC.

So the popular support picks this meta are dominant laners like Bane, UD, Jakiro, SWM, Naga or greedy teamfighters like Lesh and the main-goal is to max out that xp difference early by bullying and denying as much as possible so you can go into the midgame with a lead that you just have to sustain to win.

Is there any way to turn of item effects/animations?

What I am looking for is to turn off my invoker orbs from the "inscribed magus apex" item, because it always seems to cancel out the orbs from my Dark Artistry Cape...
I want the artistry orbs, while being able to have my super sayan hair

Getting back into Dota after a 9 month break; what are some good pub supports to play/learn right now? Specifically looking for some 5th position suggestions.

I tried a few Crystal Maiden games but she felt pretty weak. Warlock seems great as per usual (from a pub perspective), what else is a pretty good early pick for 3-4k pubs?

cm's actually kind of a beast now, getting lots of play in high mmr pubs. her q is pretty insane early, as long as ur not laning with a useless hero she does great

Is Tiny a hero again? Been playing him in the offlane and he feels strong..

875 hp and tree grab lvl 1 makes him a beast.

what heroes are you laning with?
if you think it's strong now tiny was much broken not long ago.

then they did this:
7.14 -- Reduced Tree Grab area damage from 100% on each level to 30%/40%/50%/60%.
in order to buff his other spells slightly.

one of his strengths was denying, it was a lot like TA's except it was completely reliable harassing+denying and you could lane him solo or just take him mid.

I imagine you can still pull safe-lane hard camp and toss to your creeps for pulling.

Yeah he was much more broken some time ago.

Idk i just lane with whatever, phoenix or cm or smth i dont think it matters much. With 78 base dmg and tree grab you should be able to out cs any safelane carry.

Also i've been buying quelling blade and using tree toss onto the range creep to secure some exp. If you dont have map control in the mid game i feel like Tiny is trash though. You fall off very hard against the wrong line up.

Here are some games I recently played. .
