I think I'll keep playing bots for some time, until I'm completely comfortable with different types of lanes on three champions. There is just so much to learn even at this stage.

Matchups like everything in the game change a lot while you get better, so I'm not entirely sure how much trying out matchups in bot games really helps. But if you have fun then that's the most important thing and especially at the beginning just playing will improve your game and helps getting a feel for the hero. Getting a rough idea what which hero does is the first big step imo. Stuff like running next to Ursa or Viper or dying to Necrophos Reaper's scythe is just something that will happen less once you get a bit experience. I agree with Pontual that watching Purge is definitely worth the time once you've played a few games. He's pretty elitist, but he knows what he's talking about and is really putting effort into helping people and explaining stuff on a beginner's level. If you watched Sc/2 and like day9 there's a bit more advanced series where Purge coaches him and talks about different concepts. Might be a bit much at first though.

Archeon, I get your point about matchups vs bots. It's mainly for execution in different circumstances (including the enemy).

Just play enough unranked til you can play ranked then play ranked There are plenty of "weird" interactions that you will only experience playing

When you use a TP scroll, the item goes on a "global cooldown", meaning you'll have to wait X seconds before you can use any other TP scroll. Now say you do have another TP scroll, but for lack of inventory slots, you carry it on your backpack. As long as it remains in your backpack, its cooldown is doubled. However the global cooldown is not doubled, so if you get rid of that backpack TP scroll and buy a fresh one, then you'll end having a TP scroll which didn't suffer the backpack cooldown penalty. Leading to the situation you described. Hope it makes sense...

Why is the banner on right side for Liquipedia Results: Completed doesn't have link to TI8??? It's the most important thing & it's always been easy to go there from LiquidDota soon after any tournament - yet it's not there already? I've had to google TI8 instead...

You can also just go to liquipedia and search for ti8 there.

It's been a few yrs since I last played the game. Is the monthly subscription worth buying to improve my gameplay?

I did a quick search and found dotapicker.com, not sure how accurate it is. It's been a few yrs since I last played the game. Is the monthly subscription worth buying to improve my gameplay? Dota plus is not worth if its only to improve your gameplay, you can easily substitute it for dotabuff or opendota hero voicelines are cool though, and that was what closed the deal for me. Don't think you can resort to tools to predict which hero is expected to win a 1v1 since there are ganks, different builds, and of course, human factor that can and will make a huge difference.

If you have leadership qualities you can try to make calls or spread positivity ("don't give up, we only need to do xxx"), but if a guy flames for the second or third time it's usually a sign that he's tilted and is just looking for someone to vent, so answering will not achieve anything constructive but instead allow this guy to distract you from winning the game. The other advice is to look for your mistakes more. "I have trouble with toxic people" sounds like a typical self-distraction, everyone looses occasionally because one guy tilts and looks to fight his team instead of the enemy. It shouldn't stop you from rising if you are good enough, so unless you are the guy that fights them every time, there are likely other issues that you need to work on to gain MMR. "What could I have done better" is a much better mindset than "We lost because this guy" if you want to improve.
