Am I going to get this experience in a Dota 2 community? I am extremely unfamiliar with Dota and their streaming numbers etc etc but I know I am looking for something that at least resembles the SC2 model currently.
Will I be dissapointed?

Will I be dissapointed? that will be much harder because from sc2 stream you can learn the game from a first person point of view but in dota you cannot. This is a 10 players game and will be much harder to watch a game like that. But if you are into the game, not the player, you can use the future dotaTV to watch the game. It will be in VOD andddd game play in a sense that you can watch the game as like you are one of the observer obs-ing a live game. So i will find it much harder to find something like Destiny in dota2 but the overall obs feat. will be much better if you love the game and wana learn/play it. It could be compared to CS streams in a way.

Are we going to see a similiar showcase out of dota 2 (might be hard to answer because of the dotaTV like you said)

SC2 is simply build based on BW community which was small and full of angels on earth while DotA is the first troll gaming community on earth. Everything about dota is trolling, yelling, flaming and trying to understand a non-english language argument. instead of TL side bar, i would compare dotaTV as something like teevox or wellplayedTV with special features to help you obs the game better. The showcase will be there and will be much higher level than sc2 show case but dota player's streams wont be as good as sc2 player's streams.

The skill avg on NA is really low and would be much much harder for them to catch up with other severs. It could happen one day but it will take time. My guess would be NA sticking with LoL while others will play dota2.

If you get a group of mates, and the dotatv lets you hear what they're saying, then it could be quite good fun I guess. I tried to stream a game, and explain what and why I was doing what I was doing and when, and god it's hard, so much of the game is instinct and experience.

DotA 2 not going to be released this year as initially stated, but I'm not sure if anybody is surprised judging by how incomplete the game looked at Gamescon and how well known Valve is for pushing back release dates. There is also some information concerning potential pricing.

Played a few games in both dota and hon last night but just rage quit half way through because I was getting farmed and 90% of the people were pissed at me on my team. Don't get me wrong I use the builds and guides and know how to play somewhat just not pro and get ganked alot. try playing around in single player or an ai map for a little bit and get the hang of how things work, also read some guides, there are some basic ones at playdota.com also id prefer someone who is new and willing to learn than a leaver 100% of the time, seriously in a perfect world there would never be a leaver Well yea I know the game fairly well, I know about last hitting and denying and laning and jungling heroes and stuff but I don't really know the nitty gritty, was going to go read some guides tonight on them but my big issue was just getting out played. If u understand the basics, what's left is understanding the many ways of hero killing, which will also help you in getting killed less often. If you do not know what a hero can do, e.g. Mirana who can leap at you starfall shoot shoot possibly take out half your life instantly. Or Queen of Pain, blink in, scream, poison, shoot shoot, ulti wave - Die. Or Meepo, net, poof poof poof - Die. Sand King, spike, ulti - Die. Depends on your hero, life available, move speed, do you have a blink, forcestaff, wave, or other escape mechanism, etc. This knowledge also allows you to assess whether you can kill the enemy hero or not when they are out of position. Once you are low level n starting to feed/get pwned, you have to be careful and be less aggressive, stay near towers n strong team mates, farm lesser neutral creeps, etc. Good luck and hope you get your 1st triple kill, unstoppable and god-like streak in due course. ![]()

I enjoy both ![]() The only reason I play SC is because of the streams/community which is why I can't reliably start practicing dota before I know more about the scene sadly. With the addition of a ladder I would probably enjoy dota more.

Linken's is a lot more common place in HoN (maybe cause it works on a lot more things), and when you're playing spec and 4 of the enemies heroes have Linken's it makes your ult almost useless. Doesn't block. As a general guide, Linken's sphere will block targeted skills only. There are a few exceptions but as a rule of thumb, if it's targeted, it'll block it, if it's global or targeted on the ground, it won't. Note: Exceptions usually refer to skills which aren't actually targeted, but as a part of the skill the game engine "targets" someone automatically, sometimes this only happens with a part of a skill, for instance, twin head-dragon's dual breath's damage will NOT get blocked at all, but the slow will. Note 2: With some skills, Linken's sphere "botches", as in, its cooldown activates but it blocks nothing, I'd expect these "bugs" to be removed from DotA2. For example, Nevermore's ulti activates the sphere's cooldown but blocks neither the damage, nor the slow.
