I enjoy both I have been wanting to get into a competitive gaming scene since WoW arena (not very good), Played Dota long time ago before I picked up SC but the lack of ladder kind of killed it for me, got Sc2 enjoyed the scene but I am just terrible at RTS games and significantly better at decision making in a Dota style RTS. The only reason I play SC is because of the streams/community which is why I can't reliably start practicing dota before I know more about the scene sadly. With the addition of a ladder I would probably enjoy dota more.
If you want competetive dota don't play on ladders or pubs w/e find a way to get into a team and play some clan wars, it's super fun at all levels and very competetive even if it's just a clan war it feels like a important tournament game

So did anyone see that valve is now planning on releasing dota 2 in 2012 and not in 2011? Wtf lol. Just saw an article pop up. I'm on my iPhone but someone should link the article. This is pretty fail news.

Is there a list of all heroes available in dota2 atm? I've only seen about 20 heroes from the shown matches so far. I understand maybe they are the only "viable" ones as its similar how only a few are always used in LoL tournaments too but I'm just wondering is it also cause only some have been ported so far?
Can't really find any info on the dota2 homepages...

There are around 46 heroes in the current beta build, but not all are really suited for competitive play so some are never picked (axe, pudge, bloodseeker).
Also, I don't want to write a long wall of text bashing LoL but since this also SC2 related: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?p=13096197#post13096197
This is an official announcement from Riot. Look at the picture however, that is not the LoL crowd but the SC2 fans :D Epic fail.

Sorry your wrong, I can see regi on the left and hes most definitely playing LoL... They obviously have more than one game in the one area.

The SC2 players and the LoL players are on the same stage.
What was it again?
Epic fail.

And you think people were watching SC2 or LoL instead? Also why didn't they just shoot the photo with the LoL players in the centre.

You have a crowd. You want to display this crowd as large as possible, how do you do this? You take a picture from the centre.
Why do they so often take pictures of politicians from a low angle? It makes them look bigger and more leader-like. This is all basic photography.
They didn't shoot the photo with the LoL players in the centre...because the LoL players were not in the centre. Same reason they didn't take a picture of the korean farmville team in the centre, they weren't in the centre.
What do i think they were watching, SC2 or LoL? Well this is really desperate. The fact is we don't know why they are there, a picture doesn't ask questions. A camera doesn't record a persons plans.
If i had to guess then i would say they were watching LoL for the most part because LoL has a larger following so simply going of math and logic, the majority of the people were there to watch LoL.

What do you think will happen after this tournament? Valve mentioned that the closed beta is going to start soon™ after Gamescom. Will there be a new NDA (non-disclosure agreement) for the next betaphase? What do you think will the competitive teams do if there is a NDA? Hosting beta-tournaments would therefore be impossible. Will they go back to Dota1 during that beta period?

ofc the best teams will go back to dota 1 to practice for ESWC/WDC/SMM and switch fulltime to dota 2 next year.

So much hate for SC2 and LoL fanboyism, it's goddamn childish from You guys to judge everyone by that. I already love DotA2 and I'm a LoL player since ever and an SC2 hater but still I'm doing being such a dick and do not start wars over and over again, which game is better and which has more fans.
Grow the fuck up.

If you watch lol at all they had full crowds on the main stage as well just sayin...
So happy to see a ton of heroes played in the tourney, not sure as to the actual pool but if it is 46 it seems 85% or so have been played in at least a couple games.
Also the ai camera is the best thing ever so much better than almost any manual camera ive seen in any game.

I didn't even know it was an AI camera, I thought it was just some dude observing and cycling through the heroes and following them.

If this game treats new players better (better matchmaking for example) then I could see myself playing it a lot.
DotA2 will have a coaching system. If you sign in as apprentice and someone else as a coach, both of them will be put together and the coach gets to see whatever the apprentice sees in his game. They will be connected via voicechat and then the coach can help the apprentice out. At the end of the game, if the apprentice is satisfied with the coaches work, he can vote him positively and that will give him boni outside of the game (like a discount for some other game on steam). Its a win-win-win situation, because it helps the noob, it helps the coach, and it also helps valve to get more players into the game more easily.

Does anyone know how many viewers they actually get?

They only threw the day 1 numbers out to justify the stream issues. If anything, overall numbers or peaks would be released after the whole event. Not sure whether Valve actually does it though

How do you guys think the Dota 2 scene is going to explode in NA, I know in SC2 it got way bigger than BW in NA, and it seems dota 2 has the capability to go completely wild fire mode once released. Any thoughts? Might be worth it to get a head start now?

Yes, go practice dota now!

Im sure many people were there too see lol, but most of them were just waiting for lol to finnish and SC2 to start. This can be heard clearly when the crowd chears. I like lol as much as the next guy, but riot is once again just plain sad.
They did however have a way bigger crowd then HoN. This can be seen in that intro-video where the guy walks from an empty HoN-case to a full LOL-showcase. Still sad from riot.
