I hope there will be vods or streaming replays because if I'm reading the CET to EST conversion right, I'm going to be asleep the entire time, on Wednesday. It's literally falling exactly on my sleep schedule
EDIT: cool Icefrog said the games will be uploaded to Youtube/Youku (good stuff) and put on the schedule page

I actually have the same question, however at this point only hardcore dota players still play the original dota maybe. With dota2 release, there might be a whole wave of newcomers who have to learn the game ( like you and me) and we wont stand out as much plus: i signed up for the beta, if i get in than hopefully i'll be familiar with the basics when it comes out for real.
U can play the AI map to learn the basics if u dont want to get completly flamed.

Cant wait for the game to come out and to try and learn it
So are SC skills any help when learning dota from scratch ?

Neh none whatsoever, the two games requires different skillsets. Also Dota is only hard to learn if you play by yourself so it's really best just to get someone who knows the game before and play with them. Its much easier that way.

lol this one is better

Maybe awareness minimap wise from ganks and shit, positioning and stuff is important but you won't really know until you learn all the heroes/items.

not exactly
if you play heroes like chen or meepo that are difficult to master if you dont use more that one control set, then yes, rts skills from games like sc2 or wc3 do come in handy

When is the right time to make hero threads? after the beta, or now?
|
I'm really interested in the pricing. I would much, much prefer that it is a straight $50 - $60, not a micro-transaction powered game. One thing I really hate about LoL is that they need to have an aggressive champion release schedule, to support the game. It makes it very difficult for the game to develop a strong meta game, and requires you to stay up-to-date every two weeks. Also, there are inherent balance problems with new heroes coming out all the time.

After beta starts. While the game is meant to be true to DotA I'd imagine there will at least be balance changes. Plus after beta starts we can flesh out hero threads with pictures and whatnot, and make them up to TL op standards.

I can't wait to be able to play dota 2 with my friends and people i know, although i usually enjoy f2p models, the way HON did it made it a rather hard challenge to get anyone interested into the game because of the final pricing of the game going to 200$ or 300$, some insane thing.
|
I seriously can't wait to play. Been playing DotA for the past 3 or 4 years, at times in very large quantities, but the magic just hasn't been back for a little while. My friends slowly stopped playing it, and dealing with garena or other ways to get games can be a real pain. So hyped, and now that TL has a subforum it will be better than ever!
Looking forward to playing with guys from TL, and I'm sure there will be no shortage of great hero/playstyle guides posted (hopefully some written by myself )

Yes, Army position/Hero positioning Map awareness Less silly mistakes. Can play hero like enigma, chen, enchantress better than the majority of pub players and become good easily with good practice.
What you will lack: Last hits Mana Management Item builds Game Knowledge Not knowing the spells of every hero.
But these will all be fixed with experience so its okay.

^ For the guy asking if SC skills are useful with DotA, one big thing people are overlooking I think is that the control scheme is actually very similar. Things like A-move, right click to move, hold position, stop, camera controls, etc. are all the same as SC, so you'll feel pretty comfortable controlling your hero right from the start. I've had friends who never played Starcraft/Warcraft before try out Dota and HoN, and they had a lot of trouble just learning those basic things even. The main things you'll have to learn from scratch are items, heroes, managing creeps/creep waves in various ways, and just getting a general game sense from playing it.

HuK definitely had like 10000x better map awareness than anyone else at his level when I played HoN with him. He wasn't any better at anything else though

Noob here,
Do Scourge and Sentinel basically have the same heroes, but with different names?
|
You can pick from either side
|
Oh, so it's not a Sentinel team versus a Scourge team? Do the affiliations matter for gameplay, then?
