If this game treats new players better (better matchmaking for example) then I could see myself playing it a lot.

I enjoyed them but the learning curve is huge and if you aren't amazing then all you do is get shit on by your teammates. There will be thousands of noobs then. Even if it's and AoS genre game, that the heroes and skills resemble the original DotA All-Stars, there will still be a learning curve for everyone. Your best hope would be playing the game as much as you can when it comes out so you don't fall behind. ...That or, as you said, a very well thought matchmaking system ![]()

It all comes down to the matchmaking. So you basically want an option when installing the game for the first time that asks for your experience in the genre/game? Going from beginner to advanced (where advanced is those that know all the heroes, their skills, some item builds for those heroes and all items in the game [ie, the minimum needed to play all random at a decent level]). Which then splits up the playing field at the start, which then merges as people drop/increase in rating.

I've played LoL as a casual game in between starcraft so I understand the basic mechanics, but I understand DOTA is much, much harder (which is good). I don't suppose anyone in this thread would be willing to play a game or two with me? I have a teamspeak server.

I will obviously have little time in the upcoming days, but feel free to shoot me a pm some time after. We can start off with some games on the AI map. I'll gladly help you around

I actually have the same question, however at this point only hardcore dota players still play the original dota maybe. With dota2 release, there might be a whole wave of newcomers who have to learn the game ( like you and me) and we wont stand out as much ![]() plus: i signed up for the beta, if i get in than hopefully i'll be familiar with the basics when it comes out for real.

This really isn't the case. DotA1 is much more like CS 1.6 than BW in terms of community; there's plenty of pretty bad or inexperienced players. Granted it'll be hard to find ones that aren't familiar with all of the heroes and most of the items nowadays.

Veterans are not always that good. If they're good, their rating will rase sooner or later.
