I'm a sword and board barb, and i've been following the trang and hairy posts very closely, and i've grown into a barbarian that can do all ACT3 without dying very confortably. But i'm starting to feel that i'm kinda slow. Not that i'm that slow, but i want to be faster... This is my Profile : http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/bObaS-2498/hero/16528314
I've already tried the WW/Sprint build and i don't like it that much especially because 70% of my playtime is co-op. And that build don't work very good with my DH and Monk friends (Maybe i'm doing something wrong), but that's not the point of this post.
I came across a 2 hander (Maximus) with 1100 DPS, Socket and 1600 LoH. And i would like to try a 2 handed barbarian. Is there any1 that plays 2handed? I only see WW/Sprint this days. I would like some advice about the weapon, and what gear should i change, besides the obvious helm of command, and some tips and advices about optimum stats and builds.
Thnx in advance.
Hello.
I've been runing a 2h for a while now ( http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Nudelfisk-2464/hero/4948862 , although items are slightly wrong as I'm in process of selling some items and getting new ones). What's great about it is the stupid amount of damage and the subsequent life return it grants you, which gives you room to skimp on EHP in order to get higher damage.
LoH is okay but I'd swap it out for lifesteal as your damage rises. I really like it - for example i have 2,8% LS and crit around 400-500k now which means that a crit will at the minimum return ~2240 life per dude it hits. Now if I had 6% on my weapon as well I would probably not need LoH at all. Also, my rend ticks for 130k dmg on a crit with the 9% lifesteal rune... so I get 3k life per tick. per monster I hit, it's awesome. I'm by no means an expert, but I'd definitely run cleave and rend instead of frenzy and revenge.
As for items I'd get an andariels for your helm if you can get away with the lowered resistances and extra fire damage.. I'm in love with mine. As your attack speed is rather slow with 2h it helps when you're surrounded (I usually leap into large groups of enemies), as enemies will hit you too fast and stagger you, basically stunlocking you - andariels will stagges them which lets you hit them with rend which in turn makes you invulnerable. Also it can kill smaller enemies by itself, and has great offensive stats. Otherwise I think your gear is alright. You could swap out some vitality for strength I guess but I think that's mostly my taste as others would say you're low.
As for the weapon I would swap it out if I was you. Crit damage above 150 and socket is basically mandatory and the dps is too low to make up for it. The dream weapon would have 6% LS, 200% crit damage, 300 strength, socket... I've seen some Skorns with this but they were way out of my price range. So yeah...
I'd get 1. andariels visage, 2. belt with str/vit, LS & cleave damage % (rare, lamentation or IK belt), and then 3. Axe/hammer weapon with 150+ Crit damage, socket and 300+ str.
Hope it helps. Dunno if I give sound advice so please let me know =)

After comfortably farming Act 3 with a MF DH for a bit, I've decided to start up a barb. Only in Nightmare atm, but I'm still wondering a few things.
- What skills/runes should I be using, both for leveling/progression and then when I finally hit 60? Are there links to any common skill builds for different types of barbs? (seems the OP is outdated.) I've really enjoyed Whirlwind, but from what I'm aware, playing WW in inferno requires really good gear. If not, that would probably be what I most would like to do. - What stats should I be prioritizing, other than the obvious str/vit/AR? Is LoH necessary or should I be focusing on crit etc?
Anyway, I'm basically just totally new to barbs, and links to profiles of people that can farm act 3 would be great too (any build). I'd like to run whirlwind but not sure if I'm willing to spend the money to make my barb a real farming machine or just stick to DH for efficient farming.
On most of your gear you will want vit/allres/str. Then you will need shield with a high'ish block chance (mine is not the best, but it is one i found.) And a helm of command with socket for that xp ruby or a life amethyst. And finally a sword or dagger with a lot of LoH.
My build is centered around pulling and stunning.
I use frenzy with smite to get a lot of life from LoH as well as stunlock champions. Leap with death from above to catch and stun running elites and champions, as well as stunlocking large packs of thrash. Ground stomp with wrenching smash: Ultra useful for pulling mobs together so my wiz friend can deal the hurt fast and efficient. Revenge with provocation: Keeps you alive. Warcry with impunity, raises your armor and allres, while benefitting your squishy friends. The last I use is threathening shout with grim harvest, this makes mobs deal less dmg and drop more loot, however you can switch this to either ignore pain or wrath of the beserker, I just doesn't need it with my stats and the build we run.
Finally I use all the defensive passives when playing in groups, Nerves of steel gives me 1300'ish armor, tough as nails give me around the same, and superstition is REALLY good against packs.
This guy has around 10.6k armor with all buffs, regens almost 2000 life per second while hitting mobs and stuns the shit out of most stuff to let your DPS smack everything.
Most will say this is a boring way to play, but I enjoy it while I am trying to also get a gear set for a WW barb.
I will probably wait til the dead man's legacy I found sells so lets say 50m budget for upgrades. I'm thinking weapons for sure are top priority.
Absolutely. Your offhand is fine, but your mainhand really needs replacing. I'd suggest you get rings/neck with LOH, so that you no longer need the LOH from your mainhand....
Then spend all your remaining money on a monstrously high DPS mainhand.

Yeah I sort of knew I needed to spread out my loh more but I kept finding good jewelry for super cheap haha. Thanks for the recommendation!
A bit has changed since I posted... Now, most pieces are tough to replace, and I feel like only my weapons need some work. It's just so hard for me to let go of them because of the stats and set bonus it gives me.
wow, I just bought some nice lacuni prowlers two days ago and the difference this item makes both in terms of fun and in terms of efficiency is HUUUGE! even though they were very expensive for my budget (21M), they are totally worth it.
what would you upgrade next? i think the left ring should be replaced by something with cc, cd and ar, possibly some str or +dam. vit can be sacrificed on it imho. the next two items in my list are the helm and amu. meanwhile, I keep an eye on upgrades for my mainhand weapon that would be a good deal.
any suggestions? my budget is rather tight though, only about 15M.
edit: @charger: I agree, you really should upgrade your mainhand. @trinxified: quite some impressive gear, but I think you are a) lacking 24% movement speed, b) lacking some more attack speed (it would yield huge dps increases compared to its price) and c) a stronger set of weapons. but dont get me wrong, your weapons are absolutely alright, I just think they are easier to imrpove upon than most of your armory and jewelry. if I were you, I'd really consider getting a pair of lacunis.

I also just bought a pair of Lacuni Prowlers, and the movement speed is really nice. I'm finding it easier to keep up WOTB permanently, which obviously gives a huge boost to my overall effectiveness.

Your mainhand weapon is already pretty good - I'd definitely turn your attention elsewhere for the moment. Otherwise, I think your gear analysis is spot on. Your left ring is definitely the item that's most due for replacement.
As far as stats go, I'm strongly of the opinion that you want to focus on attack speed and crit chance, as they both synergise well with the build. Crit chance means you get more fury, and attack speed means you get more fury and more benefit from your LOH. Items with +damage or crit damage might give you a nice DPS increase, but that's all it does. My insane attack speed (average 2.19, and still looking to improve!) is undoubtedly part of the reason why I can get away with such low defensive stats.
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/king-2492/hero/157357 Thanks to your advise, I can now beat act 3 witht this gear (700k ehp). Now i obviously want to do more dmg. What is the best slot to upgrade for this purpose? I have 30mil to spend.

imho you are lacking attack speed. and you are totally overkilling it on the defensive part of things.
if I were you, I'd try to get attack speed on 2 of the following items: gloves, amu, rings. you can drop some defensive stats for it. another easy improvement of your damage would be to use an emerald in your offhand. I dont think you need THAT much LoH.
in the long run, I would also replace your mainhand weapon. its damage is quite low, particularly considering that it has attack speed on it, so that its raw damage numbers are absurdly low. and its these raw damage numbers of the mainhand that matter the most for the ww/sprint build. in 50% of cases, the damage of tornados is "raw damage of mainhand with the attack speed of the offhand". you are, however, very low on strength right now, so I understand that it would not be thaaat easy to replace your mainhand and actually gain a lot of dps out of it. its more of a suggestion for when you have more str on your other gear.

I don't think there's anything wrong with having an attack speed weapon. It's true that - technically - you will get the highest DPS output if you have an attack speed dagger offhand, and a 1.2 mace mainhand (because half of the time, the mace will be attacking with the speed of the dagger). However, it comes at a cost; slow attacks means less fury and less LOH. I definitely felt the difference moving from a 1.44 speed axe to 1.3.

thats true, but also depends on how much attack speed he gets from his other gear. for my personal taste, the sweet spot is at around 1.3 attacks per second on the mainhand with a dagger offhand.

@adambanks: maybe a helm of command?
so your thinking helm with 8% block res str vit armor. Thats pricey and if i do it I really should invest in a higher block shield, i have been cutting down on def in favor of dps as soloing was taking forever. If i go from 21% to a 36ish block would it make my current armor unnecessarily high?? cause if so I would bump more str ias crit etc

well, tbh i dont know the prices for sword and board barb items. but more block means that you can give up more defensive stats on other items in favor of dps.

Yeh, I thought about getting 24% movement speed, but it's hard to give up my bracers or chest right now. Actually all of my pieces are going to be tough to replace, other than the weapons. I didn't build attackspeed (other than the weapons set bonus) and just chose to stack crit chance/crit dmg instead. I'm at 52.5% and 569% respectively.

Currently got 840 AR, 10.2k armor, 63k HP, so I'm quite beefy right now. The good news is I can switch to Skorn and make it work.
Wow you have great gear. I run with 24% move and love it. I'd give up the bracers for lacuni if I were you cause you already have an excess of life and ar. Could get some lacuni's with 100s 9ias and 12% move for 4-5m or more if you want to add some stats. Trying to get crit chance as well on lacuni's is real expensive though.
I have about 35m possibly more if I sold my DH gear (Maybe 60m total if I sold all that). What gear should I be looking for for what build? I'm thinking WW barb seems to be very strong what pieces do I want first with what stats =D.
