I'm definitely upset by how bad the cinematics were. I was planning on just watching the first new cinematic, and then saving the rest for when I actually play the game... and then I kept failing to see any reason to, because there was nothing good there (except pretty graphics)
If the gameplay's good enough I'll still buy the game, but I'm really not sure right now. Too bad there probably won't be any gameplay leaks of later Acts until release day

is it better or worse than d2's story? cuz d2's was pretty shit
Nothing wrong with D2's story and how they tell it. D3's is a bit cheesier though and the way they tell it is just... very hollywood if we are to put it like that. In generall i feel the story isn't dark enough like it was in D2.
D2's story was pretty minimal. A couple items developed during quests, but for the most part the entirety of the story was shown in the short cinematics at the end of any given act. It wasn't until Act 5 that you had any sort of progression going on while you played. The characters were also pretty shallow. Akara, Cain, Nihlathak, Tyrael, Marius, and Baal are the only characters with any...well, character. Most of the story had to be redeemed by after-the-fact content, such as novels.
The story progression and characters from only the first sliver of the game shown by the beta are already streets ahead of where Diablo 2 left off. The player spends time with Leah, Cain, and the Templar to unmask the secrets of the Fallen Star. The Skeleton King ironically has some real meat to him as he spend time taunting the player. We haven't even gotten to the cinematics yet!
Was Leah in any other Diablo game or newly introduced in Diablo3? I'm assuming her history gets revealed in game or am I missing something?
Leah is a new character to the Diablo universe. She is the daughter of the hero/Prince whats-his-name that defeated Diablo in the first game and the first games NPC witch "Adria". Her father thrust the soulstone of Diablo into his forehead at the end of D1 and afterward became the dark wanderer who roamed sanctuary in Diablo 2 until finally succumbing to the demon and fully turning into Diablo. Adria has not been seen since the first game, but she left and Leah was taken in by Deckard Cain who is the last of the Horadrim Order whom once upon a time were the ones who imprisoned Diablo, Mephisto and Baal in their soulstones. Deckard Cain has been in all Diablo games as the dude that identifies items for you for free and gives sound advice, a scholar of sorts.
This is all generally known information so no spoilers.
Leah's father is canonically known as the Dark Wanderer. It's assumed that the hero that defeated Diablo in the original game is the warrior class hero.
Which is what i said? I dont get what you're trying to say. They stated at Blizzcon i think it was that the warrior that defeated Diablo was the son of Leoric returning home, he and the player in Diablo 1 are one and the same. It's something they had to do in order to fix eventuall loop holes in the plot.
About the storytelling i was mostly refering to the cinematics compared to those of Diablo 2.
It was a clarification for the person you were explaining it to. You said that "the hero/Prince whats-his-name that defeated Diablo" was Leah's father, which is really confusing because in playing through the original game you'd never know that the warrior hero was a Prince. The only Prince mentioned was Albrecht, who is separate from the retconned warrior.

um... if you want high quality cinematics, check black soulstone on blizz website or something. fricken user uploaded, what do you think!?
I checked the spoilers and im excited for this game. the cinematics are awesome and very intricate. the music was timeless. i cant wait for the soundtrack of these cinematic scores.
im really looking forward to how blizzard will present these ideas to us. I'm more interested in how point a went to point b instead of the points spoiled already.
and shame on people who won't be getting d3 just cuz they dont like the cinematics. spend that money on rewatching the avengers in 3d over and over again lol.
At 28:35 . metzen says something like "we feel like there is still a nice girl out there to save, and would like to visit that, but how it will come to close, we dont quite know for sure, maybe we might visit it sometime in the later chapters". Hmm....sounds similar :p
I really hated new diablo form, where is my beefy, muscley diablo that enters the gate in d2 it was a warrior diablo back then, now we have a spellcaster diablo (bodytype-wise) his shoulders almost reminds me of tier 5 Warlock set in WoW

Why didn't they keep the original Tyreas voice actor? =( The new guy's not right AT ALL.
And way too damn much narration (even if you ignore the parts prior to the cinematics themselves). D2 cinematics were atmospheric, and the minimal dialogue they contained was great. This is just... distracting, lame storytelling. What the hell happened?
Couldn't agree more. I think the old D2 cinematics were made by some other guys (Blizzard North), now replaced by incompetent WoW people. This felt very WoW-ish. There was no suspense at all.
The tyrael-imperius and imperius-leahblo fights were SICK.
The story is cheesy and fuck but Tyrael is such a godamn baller, hes like batman. I was expecting him to say "Gotham city needs a hero!" as he was shedding his wings and armor.
Oh, Leah becomes Diablo.. I totally did not see that one coming! Blizzard's story lines have always been pretty predictable anyway. Doesn't mean it's not gonna be awesome, though.
Only reason I kind of knew from the get go of the beta that Leah was most likely Diablo was for two reasons, the first was because it was odd that out of nowhere (past mentioning) this Leah girl appeared and followed me, helped me, and almost seemed like a main focus. That kind of gave it away, Blizzard needed to slowly introduce her. It would have added much more surprise when everything came to the end, at least thats what I think. And also, like people have mentioned before, the Diablo pictures from Blizzcon tried to 'highlight' the fact that the new Diablo body was different from the others, pointing to a likely female host.
About Tyrael's new voice: is it just me, or does he sound like a black man? (Not being racist here, or saying that's why the voice sucks. Just curious)
