Well....the girl being diablo was easy to guess... also, after seeing the animated cinematic about the archangels, it was pretty obvious that they would turn on each other...Also I have heard on judgehype forum that the butcher is back too (he apparently shows himself in a video at the 28-29th second). I am still trying to find the video tho...
No real surprises here - I thought it was very odd that some random girl got so much exposure in the game coverage despite not actually doing anything. I figured she either saves the day (not likely) or ends up screwing you over (i.e. turn into Diablo). Imperious turning on the angels is no surprise either after the animated film; it's just a question of how it happens.
I am still holding out until I get the game guide. There is no way to know that Leah transforms into Diablo yet, and until then we should hold our opinions.
Personally, I think it's likely, but whatever-game's not out yet, guide's not in yet.
Not sure why this is a surprise to anyone at all. Blizzard uses this exact plot "twist" in just about every single one of their games. They're getting to be like BioWare, with their stale cliches.
Well it's all pretty obvious now so dont read past this if ure dumb and dont want the plot spoled including Tyrael and Imperius.+ Show Spoiler +
Leah is Diablo. She is the reason Imperius is currently in sanctuary. This is how you encounter him, you and Tyrael want to protect Leah, Imperius wants to kill her on the spot. That is how you get into conflict with him. As you battle Imperius with/without Tyrael or simply Tyrael fights him, Leah turns to Diablo in the background of the fight. Diablo then kills/wounds Imperius and gets away. This is why Diablo is so skinny in D3 aswell vs in D2. In D2 he had the body of a brutish warrior, now its a little girl hence hes more agile looking.

When Azmodan says "you thought you were so clever" he is talking to Diablo, not Leah. Diablo was so clever in hiding away in her. And in the first teaser, Leah sees diablo among other things, she sees her own destiny, not some prophecy.

I'm so mad at myself right now... Why the fuck do I keep clicking those damn spoilers when every single time I regret it ? WHY ? My brain is so dumb sometimes

Most the pictures. Aren't that big of spoilers. I knew everything they were saying and just extra clips from the preview.

Leah is not a big spoiler IMO. It was incredibly obvious from the day I saw the Black Soulstone video. Even before then I had a good idea she would be Diablo because of the feminine features of Big D but I'm surprised so many people didn't know about her being Diablo yet.

The first ones yeah agree, nothing major but the last two... That's the ones I should not have clicked but I did... Being curious can be a good thing in life I guess but not this time
the black soulstone is the key to combine the prime and lesser evils into Ubermegadiablo (leaked strings shows that Diablo uses all of the powers of theirs) so he can own the High Heavens. I wonder beside Tyrael who the fuck gonna help us kill him, seems like we have been fighting the 7 headed dragoon one head a time in the past and he wanted to loose.

Yes this has been speculated by a few, i can kinda buy it but mostly because Metzen is lazy. Im hoping it isn't true however since it's so goddamn lame. Besides this i do not want help in defeating diablo, i do not want it to be like a wow bossfight either where you can choose to have Tyrael help you with buff X and another angel with buff Z. Then achievements for doing it with no buffs!!!!!!!! ....
Mortals should defeat Diablo since he is in Sanctuary, period. Even if he assaults the high heavens, mortals should defeat him, thats the point of the damn game.
But damn it makes alot of sense. Azmodan says that when he gets the black soulstone he can rule as THE prime evil, not one of but THE prime evil. Fuck this is such a dumb plot. Oh well this dumb shit might make me hang in there till the 23rd(fuck exams)
But if this is true hmm what for the expansion? Kinda closes of a few things other then say Inarius returning from hell, mallformed and absolutely batshit insane due to millenia of torture.

In the Black Soulstone trailer when Leah is in hell, you can see the lesser evils only, the prime ones' seats are empty-> theyre trapped in the black soulstone ready to get consumed by Leahblo?

That was hell? in the cinematic? Also updated my previous post a little, the one u quoted.
In the dream, Azmodan doesn't have the stone yet, but he says "one by one our brethren fell into your trap". Leah has the stone, why or how we do not know but i think it has been confirmed that she does indeed have it? And the brethren he speaks of... could they be Mephisto and Baal? They are in the Black Void aren't they? It could be lesser evils yes, Andariel and Duriel makes no appearance in the game. And it could also be that Leah follows the hero around as you kill demons, absorbing them into the stone without knowing Diablos plan. That might be a good explanation how he gets their powers.
Since you meet Belial and the queen of pain but also Azmodan.
Deckard Cain is implied to be dead. The hero spends the whole game casting down the Lesser evils and imprisoning them, only to have Diablo break out of the black soulstone at the end of act 3 and launch and assault on heaven. Leah is not initially Diablo, but is forced into possession. Also, Imperius is not a bad guy, just gets a cameo in the last level just before the final quest to kill Diaablo.
I don't see these as spoilers at all, everyone who followed the development of Diablo 3 during the past few years already knew about this. Heck most of the so called 'spoilers' were already hinted by Blizzard themselves in their TV commercial. The real kick is not whether these events (spoilers) would occur, but how they will occur :-)! To bad I can only play after 20th of june :-/!

that was definetly some kind of throne room of the evils. Yes. Azmodan knows that Diablo's plan was to get exiled, get the soulstones and the worldstone destroyed so he can manifest inside Leah and get all of them powers to pwn Heaven. He wants all of that power for himself thats why he invades Sanctuary, only to find that Leah befriended the player and we pwn him. After that Impetus shows up, trying to kill Leah, but Tyrael comes and try to argue that they shouldn't kill Diablo but prison him inside Leah, they fight for a bit, then Adria turns Leah into Leahblo, so Impetus dies and Tyrael flees. Act 4 is an epic battle between the Heaven and Hell, without Impetus and with Ubermegadiablo its kind a onesided, but we show up and somehow manage to break the black soulstone's bond, and meanwhile Tyreal deals with the other evil we imprison Diablo in our head so we can play the same story for the 4th time. :D JK, They say we will have 2 more expansions and it will resolve all of the conflict in d1-3. I guess if all of the prime and lesser evils will be defeated in vanilla d3 maybe corrupted angels
Hahhaah its so funny , you all talking in spoilers hahah , yes i know its normal , but little funny to me ;P IMO some images cant ruin you play time..its just images , not movies its.. But... + Show Spoiler +

Yes, i know people bugg Blizzard about a full feature film of some kind, but holy shit the Diablo 3 cinematics are just on a different level. The detail and animation are just... so good. They look better then hollywood productions like transformers for god sake. And no other game company comes even remotely close. Damn full feature Diablo movie would work so well, way better then a Warcraft or Starcraft movie. The lone hero vs hordes of demons? Yes please.
I would love to know the render times for a 2min cinematic that they've made, must be insane.

I do agree. I feel they may want to think about making a movie. The only scare is that Final Fantasy movie wasn't really successful.

Story plot and script is the most important part of a FULL LENGTH movie. Not visuals.
Example is Transformers 2: Trailer is amazing, movie..not so much..
It probably has something to do with the fact that Leah is the daughter of the Warrior while he was possessed by Diablo. I'm guessing that a small part of Diablo's essence went into her when she was born.
Cool screen shots, I don't understand why op asked for discussion in spoilers when there's a massive [Spoilers] in the title, its like going cannons and observer at the same time to counter lurkers

Sorry always wanted to try it at least once and I couldn't find a better chance than this, personally I'm not clicking any spoilers in this thread. Consider it as practise for D3 clicking.
And you could have just used the quote trick and saved yourself the trouble!
Man why in the hell did i click? just ruined my whole d3 experience, im always a sucker for spoilers and they always ruin my experience! damn you! *que darth vaders NOOOOOO!*
I didnt want leah to go like that, she was cute . But metzen really needs to retire this plot style, it's been getting old since war3. They never say what happens to adria after she betrayed them, why would adria betray them. Ahh well, maybe playing the game will answer that. I dont really understand what they can do with the expansion.
From the cinematics, it seems as though stuff starts to get pretty rushed towards the end (act 2 diablo revealed, ac3 kill diablo), I hope it doesnt feel as rushed as sc2, as in boom..we smashed the zerg planet in after 2 missions. D2 felt epic because it was a game long build up and chase.
Was Leah in any other Diablo game or newly introduced in Diablo3? I'm assuming her history gets revealed in game or am I missing something?
Leah is a new character to the Diablo universe. She is the daughter of the hero/Prince whats-his-name that defeated Diablo in the first game and the first games NPC witch "Adria". Her father thrust the soulstone of Diablo into his forehead at the end of D1 and afterward became the dark wanderer who roamed sanctuary in Diablo 2 until finally succumbing to the demon and fully turning into Diablo. Adria has not been seen since the first game, but she left and Leah was taken in by Deckard Cain who is the last of the Horadrim Order whom once upon a time were the ones who imprisoned Diablo, Mephisto and Baal in their soulstones. Deckard Cain has been in all Diablo games as the dude that identifies items for you for free and gives sound advice, a scholar of sorts.
This is all generally known information so no spoilers.
Although I liked the Imperius vs. Diablo one, the Diablo II cinematics were much better. Where's the subtlety? Making Tyrael tell us the story in an extremely cheesy way wasn't a smart move at all. Totally ruined his character for me. Also, Tyrael's new voice sucks.

Nothing wrong with D2's story and how they tell it. D3's is a bit cheesier though and the way they tell it is just... very hollywood if we are to put it like that. In generall i feel the story isn't dark enough like it was in D2.

So, it really depends. Because in Diablo 2 the ingame execution didn't amount to very much, and that partly due to the technology they were using, but the cinematics were very well done, and I'd argue some of the best visual storytelling in the gaming industry.
I can't talk about Diablo 3's ingame storytelling, but the cinematics were a kind of Transformers wishwash, utterly trite and without weight. I suspect you'll get more value from what happens in the game itself. Just my impression.

The Imperius vs Diablo fight was awesome, but I wished it was longer since they're suppose to be one of the strongest from their own faction. I can't really complain too much since the amount of detail and work that was put into these cinematics is top notch.

I agree with this, I was kinda okay with it till that point, the voice did feel kinda meh, but it when it got to the last bit, it really turned me off, with all "the mortals did it! they saved angels! the underdogs won!" bit that went on again and again.

Not really surprised though - compare SC2 plot and storytelling to SC1/BW, and pretty much the same thing happened. HotS will probably be a good indicator of how the "story" of the Diablo 3 expansion would flow, too.

D2's story was pretty minimal. A couple items developed during quests, but for the most part the entirety of the story was shown in the short cinematics at the end of any given act. It wasn't until Act 5 that you had any sort of progression going on while you played. The characters were also pretty shallow. Akara, Cain, Nihlathak, Tyrael, Marius, and Baal are the only characters with any...well, character. Most of the story had to be redeemed by after-the-fact content, such as novels.
The story progression and characters from only the first sliver of the game shown by the beta are already streets ahead of where Diablo 2 left off. The player spends time with Leah, Cain, and the Templar to unmask the secrets of the Fallen Star. The Skeleton King ironically has some real meat to him as he spend time taunting the player. We haven't even gotten to the cinematics yet!

Which is what i said? I dont get what you're trying to say. They stated at Blizzcon i think it was that the warrior that defeated Diablo was the son of Leoric returning home, he and the player in Diablo 1 are one and the same. It's something they had to do in order to fix eventuall loop holes in the plot.
About the storytelling i was mostly refering to the cinematics compared to those of Diablo 2.
I loved D2's cinematics. The cowardly old man following the wanderer, becoming witness to more and more fantastical and horrifying scenes... it was good stuff.
Why didn't they keep the original Tyreas voice actor? =( The new guy's not right AT ALL.
And way too damn much narration (even if you ignore the parts prior to the cinematics themselves). D2 cinematics were atmospheric, and the minimal dialogue they contained was great. This is just... distracting, lame storytelling. What the hell happened?

I'm definitely upset by how bad the cinematics were. I was planning on just watching the first new cinematic, and then saving the rest for when I actually play the game... and then I kept failing to see any reason to, because there was nothing good there (except pretty graphics)
If the gameplay's good enough I'll still buy the game, but I'm really not sure right now. Too bad there probably won't be any gameplay leaks of later Acts until release day

We haven't even gotten to the cinematics yet!
Leah's father is canonically known as the Dark Wanderer. It's assumed that the hero that defeated Diablo in the original game is the warrior class hero.
It was a clarification for the person you were explaining it to. You said that "the hero/Prince whats-his-name that defeated Diablo" was Leah's father, which is really confusing because in playing through the original game you'd never know that the warrior hero was a Prince. The only Prince mentioned was Albrecht, who is separate from the retconned warrior.

um... if you want high quality cinematics, check black soulstone on blizz website or something. fricken user uploaded, what do you think!?
I checked the spoilers and im excited for this game. the cinematics are awesome and very intricate. the music was timeless. i cant wait for the soundtrack of these cinematic scores.
im really looking forward to how blizzard will present these ideas to us. I'm more interested in how point a went to point b instead of the points spoiled already.
and shame on people who won't be getting d3 just cuz they dont like the cinematics. spend that money on rewatching the avengers in 3d over and over again lol.
At 28:35 . metzen says something like "we feel like there is still a nice girl out there to save, and would like to visit that, but how it will come to close, we dont quite know for sure, maybe we might visit it sometime in the later chapters". Hmm....sounds similar :p
I really hated new diablo form, where is my beefy, muscley diablo that enters the gate in d2 it was a warrior diablo back then, now we have a spellcaster diablo (bodytype-wise) his shoulders almost reminds me of tier 5 Warlock set in WoW

Couldn't agree more. I think the old D2 cinematics were made by some other guys (Blizzard North), now replaced by incompetent WoW people. This felt very WoW-ish. There was no suspense at all.
The tyrael-imperius and imperius-leahblo fights were SICK.
The story is cheesy and fuck but Tyrael is such a godamn baller, hes like batman. I was expecting him to say "Gotham city needs a hero!" as he was shedding his wings and armor.
Oh, Leah becomes Diablo.. I totally did not see that one coming! Blizzard's story lines have always been pretty predictable anyway. Doesn't mean it's not gonna be awesome, though.
Only reason I kind of knew from the get go of the beta that Leah was most likely Diablo was for two reasons, the first was because it was odd that out of nowhere (past mentioning) this Leah girl appeared and followed me, helped me, and almost seemed like a main focus. That kind of gave it away, Blizzard needed to slowly introduce her. It would have added much more surprise when everything came to the end, at least thats what I think. And also, like people have mentioned before, the Diablo pictures from Blizzcon tried to 'highlight' the fact that the new Diablo body was different from the others, pointing to a likely female host.
About Tyrael's new voice: is it just me, or does he sound like a black man? (Not being racist here, or saying that's why the voice sucks. Just curious)

Where did you find those videos? I'm curious to watch the Diablo cartoon.
Theres alink somewhere in this thread, diablo 3 wrath, just google it. About the voice actor i prefer the old one, i dont see why the old one wasn't used as he was featured in the last wow expansion and Malfurion Stormrage, so obviously he still does game voice acting.

Thing is, I don't want to be playing D3 and then be constantly reminded by how much the story irks me whenever I do quests. Probably won't be that bad though... but that final cinematic, the conclusion to a story driven single player*, is enough to give me second doubts (which I was already having after they announced no offline play)
*well, really it's loot-driven. So at least there's that

Goddamnit Blizzard, why did you have to ruin something so close to my heart! Now I know how the Mass Effect people felt with ME3's ending... (okay, I'm being way overly dramatic. But still. Not cool Blizz)
First, Tyrael's voice actor is good. However, he's just not Tyrael. We had Diablo II + LoD and 10 years or so to settle into his character. His new voice just does not fit the character at all.
Cinematic quality - excellent, like always. Especially the angels. Holy shit those were fantastic.
Cinematic content - ugh. I was holding out and hoping that Blizzard would redeem the absolutely atrocious story from SC2 with at least a decent story in Diablo III, but the way they told the story in the cinematic is terrible (over-narration, terrible script for Leah and for Tyrael at the end) and the story itself is very meh. Like others have said, far too Hollywood, nothing dark about it, no subtlety or anything like that. Just pretty crappy and too many rehashed plot devices that weren't done uniquely at all.
I dont mind that they rehash pot devices or generall concepts, but when they do they should deliver them in a nice new package with atleast some unique twist to it. D3 unfortonately did neither of those things. THe last movie just makes me cringe.+ Show Spoiler +
MAN DEFEATED EVIL EVEN THOUGH WE SAID MAN WAS DUMB!!! HAIL MAN! I WILL TAKE MY PLACE AMONG YOU NOW! AS A MORTAL! FUCK YEAH GLORIOUS RIGHTOUS HOLLYWOOD INSPIRATIONAL SPEECH ENDING! YEAH!
Seriously compare this ending to Baal deceiving a guy, killing him, burning his current residence(mental hospital but still) to the ground as he walks away freely, laughing with his own soulstone. You just know shit aint over yet and shit is gonna hit the fan in the next expansion, Baal is pissed son! And the best part about it, when i played Diablo 2 i had no clue it was actually Baal until that last scene, not once did i think it could be him because i had no reason to. They didnt tell me everything, they held information back and in writing this is what causes the reader/viewer to get INTERESTED! It's freaking dramaturgy 101 Blizzard, god damnit.

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better myself. They really jumped the shark on this one.
I like Tyrael's new voice actor. I don't think it is too bad. I mean, it is hard for some to get used to is since we've played the old games for so long and it takes time to adjust. The same goes for Zeratul's new voice actor in SC2.
