Anyone here owns a museum? ^_^ If your deadline is SC2, then wait till at least beta shows to even start putting together a machine. With the exception of memory, everything else will probably just come out with better and cheaper alternatives.

I built my machine purely for gaming so was the best choice for me. 1156 socket systems are cheaper so I was also able to pick up a nice 1920x1200 monitor ![]()

If you also need a screen then it gets complicated D:

One thing I'm concerned about is that the system specs that people have been saying can "Run SC2" will start to chug along drop a lot of frames in big games. I like 4v4, 5v5, 2v2v2v2 styles games and the build of SC2 I played at PAX was dropping frames in a 1v1 match with a i7 920 and GTX 260 video card. That's probably more due to the fact that the game was hardly optimized by that point. If an i7 and GTX 260 is dropping frames, like 90% of the consumer base that Blizzard was counting on simply can't even play the thing. The argument is the same as always, Blizzard has made games with relatively low requirements since the beginning of time, and will continue to do so.

I'm a bit of a hardware noob so help me out please ![]() First of all, do you think the following system will work for sc2? OS: Win 7 64 bit. Cpu: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core, 3,2Ghz, AM3, 8MB, 125W, Boxed Mobo: 488342 Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H Ram: Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600MHz 4GB CL9 Kit w/2x 2GB Hdd: WD Caviar Black 1TB 3,5", SATA, 32MB Cache, Dual Processor, 7200RPM Box: 580313 Fractal Design Define R2 Black Pearl Gfx: XFX GeForce 9500GT 550M 1GB PhysX CUDA PCI-Express 2.0, DDR2, DVI, HDCP Cooling: Corsair H50 Hydro Series CPU PSU: Corsair VX 550W PSU ATX 12V The price for all this at the swedish store komplett.se is 1078 usd for the parts only. If I exchange the gfx card for two XFX Radeon HD 4770 512MB GDDR5, using crossfire the price jumps up to 1213 usd. Is using crossfire a good idea at all? Maybe I could first buy one of the cards and the buy another if I see the need? Is that a good idea? Is this an ok price? Do you think I should exhange any parts for something better or more priceworthy? Anyway, please give me some input as I'm a bit lost in the woods at the moment.

Get a nicer graphics card and spend less money on parts that aren't as important for gaming. Getting 2x 4770's doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Just get a newer card and you will get a better price/performance ratio. Plus you don't have to worry about the extra power and space needed. I bought a 4870 a bit before the 5000 series came out, so unfortunately 4000 series card have gone up in price. Still, a 4870, 4890, or a 5770, will be enough to run just about anything you want. 9500 is probably OK for SC2, but it doesn't make sense to skimp on graphics when you want a nice gaming computer.

For most people, going xfire/sli is probably overkill, I'd go with one card solution first. If you are a hardware noob, do you aim on overclocking? If not, there really isn't much of reason for liquid cooling - air cooling can be very quiet. If you are not going to OC, then the Dominator is also overkill. As for CPU, if you saw the AMD roadmap from last page, they have a 95w version coming in a few months, if time isn't an issue (and you insist on using AMD), that can work out fine. There are suggestions and suggestions, but it'd be nice to know if you have an exact budget of some sort as well as some description as to how you'd use the system and stuff, would make it a lot easier.
