I entered my build (based on an i5-750 overclocked to 3.5 ghz with 1.4 voltage [more than in reality] and a 5850), and it says that I only need a 350 watt power supply, some previous advice in this thread or elsewhere said that an i5-750 and a 5850 could use almost 400 W or more on its own, I guess my question is how accurate are these calculators?

You realize that the psu is most effectiveness at like 60% usage and so that where i'd aim for 90% of your usage because outside of a benchmark the gpu will never be under 100% actual draw all the way same as a cpu in games for the most part so you just have to worry about peak usage and you're solid.

If a power supply under normal gaming runs at, say, 80% usage, (and i'll use a 4870 since i remember it's power draw off the top of my head) this would draw roughly 120 watts of power. When it moves up to 100% in synthetic benchmarks, getting up to around a peak power draw of 160 watts or so, this doesn't make much of a difference for the system power load, at least in wattage. You will only have problems with power overdraws and freezes etc if your power supply is severely under specifications. For example, when i first put together my 2x gtx295 system, i only had an 800 watt modular PSU, so it couldn't handle the draw along with an i7 920 and other stuff.

Did you include a hard drive? DVD drive? Other peripherals? These things can add up. I forget my exact PSU wattage, but my specs are a bit lower than yours, and I have around 500W. I wouldn't get less than that. Also wattage isn't everything. Some brands have much better reps for being efficient than others; read the reviews. You also have to be careful that the PSU comes with enough connectors.

The build is this http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=108310 And the wattage (with a 5850) came out to 350, so this seems a little borderline.

I have the box of one right here, the (single) +12v rail is at 48a. 140mm fan, the power supply itself just feels very well put together, it's very solid and painted with some polish so it feels very smooth. Looking inside, i can see a mix of Ferrite chokers and Iron resistors.

Decided to go with a 750W psu so there are more options with xfire Are you content with the price as it is or are you counting on the savings that's bound to come with combo deals and such, heh. Like how 23" monitors will just randomly drop to $150 or so on newegg.
