But that only matters for the continuous read and writes, for the most part what makes a fast HDD is fast random seek time.

Idk, it got good reviews from Tom's hardware and others so I went with it. It seems like the best option until SSD's drop in price.

Yeah lol no joke, I was trying to talk myself into buying one but I want to keep a good price/performance ratio.

I think I'll just wait for my next computer to buy an SSD, by the time they're at a price point where I think it's worth it it'll be too much of a hassle to switch programs and my OS over I think

I don't know, at the rate that SSD is growing and dropping in prices, if you are willing to pay for an i5 now, you will probably be buying one in the lifespan of the same comp imo. $100 for 40gb is about normal now, and that's 40gb with TRIM and fairly good speeds. Given how fast the prices slid down last year, I wouldn't be too surprised to see the $200ish enthusiast SSDs drop down to a more mainstream consumer friendly cost by the end of this year.

Umm, Kingston's SSDnow or whatever their low end consumer line was called again had hit $100 or so after rebate for 40gigs iirc, that offer doesn't seem to be on at the moment though.

Yeah it's a good drive none the less it has slower seek times then an WD black AALS which is slower then a Seagate 7200.12 but it's better on sustained reads and writes so i mean by no means it's slow just on avg the thing ppl notice more often are faster random seek times vs sustained loading of things.esp under a ACHI hdd set up the diff would be very little.

Too bad we still don't know the freq. I don't really think they will be better than the x4 in games anyway.

Well they can't be better than the X4s in games because games don't use the extra cores :p

The x6s are supposed to be 45nm right? They'd better have some really competitive pricing if they want to compete with the i7 hexacores.

Honestly I am not too sure what AMD thinks it is going to gain by releasing the 6core processors, we are already having problems pushing quads to their full potentials as it is, the enthusiasts are by far more attracted to the raw power from Gulftown, those conscious of costs aren't even going to step up to hexacore because there is just next to no point...the quad cores look far more interesting in comparison.

Well the point is that they will have competitive prices :p

Intel's 6 core is slated at 1k, whereas AMD's 6 core may be much lower, and a decent 'bargain'. I'm looking forward to seeing the 95W 955 though.

That defies the idea of hexacore being cutting edge, $100 range quads is one thing, a "bargain hexacore"? What's the point. Of course, it'll sell as long as the price is low enough, but unlike budget quads, they won't be able to get anywhere with it.

I wont get a hex core or w.e till windows 8 which will be written with mutli threaded in mind and no this can't be done though a patch to windows 7 it's something at the base level that needs to be changed.

I will deviate from this HDD ongoing theme, and ask you on a preferable configuration i can get for lets say 550 Euros MAX. (Preferbly 500 EU but i can stretch it to 550 np). I have set the SC2 as a deadline for the new PC, and wouldn't buy new one before that for sure. Now i have 1GB DDR1, 3,0 AMD Athlong 64, Ati Radeon 9200 SE 128 MB, 80 GB HDD. Anyone here owns a museum? ^_^
I love humanity. It is people that i can't stand.
