Also, now that the gtx295 is "last gen" (even with the physX card built in) do you plan on upgrading? Also why all the crappy overpriced intel parts? (And by that i mean the motherboard and coolers) There were several competing goals and that system accommodated them all, more or less. Gaming, 64bit virtual machines, databases, experiments with RAM disks, internet services, file services, video editing, etc. As it's name suggests, it is more than I currently need. In hindsight, I suppose a Mac Pro might have have been worth the trade-offs. I don't know. I got the video card because it was ubiquitous, powerful, and easily watercooled. There is also a second 16x PCI slot. There may be better and cheaper sounds cards - I really didn't look into sounds cards much. I just wanted 5.1 optical sound with some bells and whistles and well supported drivers. The motherboard has admittedly been a pain in the neck, but there weren't a lot of dual nehalem options in Oct '09. As for the CPU coolers, they're inexpensive, more than adequate, and being replaced by waterblocks anyway.

LGA775 is the socket of the intel Core 2 line of processors, a Phenom II 940 is socket AM2+, but will also go into an AM3 board. Also the 5750 is fairly underpowered. Maybe you should get a slightly more beefy card (5770, 5830 will be out soon)

I also can't wait to see how well the x6 will do in games. I will probably be disappointed though.

Intel just came out with its newest processors so i imagine AMD will be putting out Phenom III (or whatever) processors with a die shrink in at least 4 or 5 months, hopefully one of them will break the 4ghz barrier. i read somewhere that intel is reviving and revising the prescott core and we'll see 15ghz sometime soon which maybe means 3-4 years.
