yea the 4890 is a cool too.
Basicly: 4870 cheaper but still solid performance. 5770 about same performance than the 4870 but with less power consumption and Dx11. More expensive too. 4890 ~ the same price than the 5770, more powerful but high consumption and no Dx11. Try to get a 4890 Vapor-X if you have enough money. That was the best Ati card of the last generation before the 5850 and the 5870.
ATI mid range atm is just sick lol.
edit: Cheap and good motherboard for Athlon II x4 / Phenom II x3 or x4 -> Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P

I decided I'm going to go ahead and just build a new rig on my own to save a little money and because I really feel like I need to learn how to do it eventually.
Intel i5 processor MSI P55-GD65 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard 4gb ddr3 Ati radeon 4870 500gb hard drive
What kind of power supply do I need for this build? Will like 500 watts suffice? I'm not planning on dicking around with any overclocking because I'm not too picky about frames and I plan on using this computer for up to 4 years, possibly more.

You can overclock conservatively and still undervolt, the factory default voltage is quite high. If you don't care to go crossfire in the future, 500 should be enough. I personally always push for a bit more on PSU for future expansions, it is a pain in the arse to rip out cables.

I would say pick up a 550 or 600 watt PSU if you can but it isn't entirely necessary. The 4870 is a good choice, but remember that there are utilities to allow you to modify the voltage it runs at, thus allowing you to achieve ~875mhz stable after overvolting (as fast as a 4890).
Also if you leave the CPU at like ~1.15v AT THE HIGHEST, you can still reach quite high clocks.

CPU: Althon II X2 240 2.8ghz Ram: OCZ DDR3 1600 4GB Video: IGP HD Radeon 4200 errrr? You think?

Anybody else notice the ddr2 ram price hike on newegg? i mean the stuff doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled with some of the particular ram. I was hoping it would actually go down so I could add 4gb before christmas but the ram I bought this summer went from $46 to $100!!!
My neighbor bought 8gb for $80 and its now $250!!!

Here's my Rig, how do you think it'd stand up.
2x 19" 1440x900 monitors 9800GT video card 4GB DDR2 Ram Intel Q8200 64bit 2.33Ghz Quad Core CPU Unidows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) 2 500GB HDDs (not sure make and model) Colorful C.P45 K mobo (chinese name, not sure the US equivalant)

Not too surprising... the RAM manufacturers severely overproduced DDR2, to the point where they were practically giving it away. I believe only one of them was making any money at all. The switch to DDR3 and stocks of DDR2 being drained would account for the price increase.

My neighbor bought 8gb for $80 and its now $250!!! With the recession ending after its own fashion, the supply glut that gripped the semiconductor industry is gone, so prices and contract prices of DDR2 and 3 ram has been going higher. Though rumors have that the prices could drop during December, and if nothing else, we should see lower prices next year. But yeah...ram prices went up tons.
Mcneebs, your rig should do fine, unless you are trying to run it across two screens...

unless SC2 is as poorly optimized as GTA IV you're good to go man. should be able to run it on max settings if 1440x900 is your native resolution (running the game on a single monitor obviously).
EDIT:
my rig: intel q8400 @ 2.66 ghz 4mb cache 4 gb ram geforce gts 250 1 gb 500 gb hard drive 23" acer 1080p widescreen (getting two more 20" on black friday)
anyone have a clue if this game will take advantage of triple and quad core systems for seperate sound/physics or whatever?

running 3 monitors on a 250? !
|
i get a little madder with each passing year, since its likely that my laptop wont be able to run it by the time it comes out

Definitely. It's really made building a midrange computer a pain in the ass

Sorry man, i don't really think that's gonna happen. 785G is an amazing chipset, but it isn't good enogh to game on it's own. You should buy a 4350 for hybrid crossfire if you don't want to spend much money at all.

But another though usb, 3 monitors is more or less pointless and eyefinity is pretty costly as most people will need a active converter which cost around 100 bucks. But display port as it is royalty free should proliferate in years to come but it has it's own video controller allowing 1 monitor/desktop for that monitor for every display port you put on the card instead of a limit of 2.

I want to buy a 5000 dollars alienware...
... all im missing is 5000 dollars and a way to bring it to Brazil without paying taxes

Just avoiding taxes will be impressive unless you are in one of the states in the US that doesn't tax things online for some reason which i am not T_T dam my near 10% sales tax.

Well the 250 isn't a very powerful card to try to run 3 monitors off of. Isn't it a rebranded 9600 or 9500?
