My PC died last week, and I was thinking about buying a new one. It's my first time actually building a PC, so I just wanned to check if everything is going to work together. Or should something be changed? Or if something's missing?
This is what I was thinking to buy:
Intel i7 920 Intel Core i7 920, 4.8GT/s, 8MB Cache, 45nm Nehalem, 4x 2.66GHz, DDR3
ASUS Intel X58 Express ASUS P6TD Deluxe, 1366,FSB6400,PCIE,DDR3,RAID SATA-300,CrossfireX+SLI,ATX Unterstützte CPU's: Intel® Core™ i7-965/975 Prozessor Extreme Edition (Bloomfield), Intel® Core™ i7-920-950 Prozessor (Bloomfield)
Gigabyte 275GTX Gigabyte GeForce GTX 275,, PCI-E, 2400/660MHz, DDR3 2xDVI, TV-Out, HDCP
Patriot Memory DDR3 1600MHz 4GB NV Patriot DDR3 4G,PC-12800 Viper, 1600MHz,CL7,(Kit-of-2), Nvidia EXTREME PERFORMANCE SERIE
Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD 1000GB HD103SJ, SATA-300, 7200rpm, 8.9ms, 32MB Silent Seek
Coolermaster HAF 932 Big-Tower, ATX, Black, 6x 5.25", 1x 3.5", 5x 3.5" 4x USB2, Audio, FW, eSATA
LC Power Ozeanos 650W, ATX, 14cm Fan, 6x SATA, 2x PCIE, 20+4pin 80%, Cable Management
Lite On IHAS 424 DVD±RW LS, 24/48/8/32, SATA, Black Blende, Retail
The main thing that's bothering is actually power supply.. Don't know anything bout them. And on some places it says this psupply is ATX and on some ATX 2.2 and i'm not sure which one is correct one. Or does it play any major differences (I chose my mainboard first, and built everything acording to it.)
And do I need some aditional cooling system for the CPU?
If someone has some other/better choices, I'd be glad to hear them.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Oh yeah, I've read somewhere that this CPU requires some special RAM. Something like Memory Triple Channel 1.65V, iirc. Is that true? If so, which RAM would be better?
|
Of course your CPU will require a special cooler. Anything in the 120mm range will probably be perfectly suitable if you plan to overclock.
I would definitely beef up the power supply go for a 750-800 watt, modular. That way when you upgrade your graphics eventually you won't have to also buy a new power supply.

I'm not planing on overclocking anything. I thought I'd get a cooler for the CPU along with CPU. Bleh. Changed it a bit.

Yes, my PSU is sufficient, LOL.

Either wait for Fermi or get a 5k card, don't get a 275. 5850's value is sickening.
Dell does weird things with their XPS presets heh.

If you don't plan on overclocking, don't waste your money going i7. Get an e8600+nice lga775 board. Gaming/desktop performance will be fine and you can use a cheaper cooler. The only way you can justify the price of an i7 is by overclocking.

Here is mine, I plan on playing StarCraft 2 at 1680*1050, probably max details. Hoping for the game to run great.
Intel i7 860 eVGA P55 FTW ATI Radeon HD5870 G.Skill 4x2gb PC12800, CAS7 (XMP1) Corsair HX 750W Coolermaster HAF922 (no need for bigger) Western Digital Black Caviar 1tb Noctua NH-U12P SE2
I realize a i7 920 would have been just fine/better, but honestly a 920 is better for some crazy overclocking, 860 should be fine o/c without having to ressort to water cooling.

Here is my setup.
i7 920 3.8 GHz OC EVGA X58 2x 275 GTX 6GB Ram 300 GB Velociraptor LG Blu Ray Fatal1ty Sound Card Mushkin 800W 25.5 inch LCD G15/G9
I should be able to run multiple sessions of Starcraft 2 at the highest setting. : D

About the nettop, the Atom is really underpowered, even two of it might not be able to properly handle a RTS.
EDIT - About that SSD post a while back, refer to here. The first of many to come imo.

Hmmmmm I think the jury is out on this one. A 9400M is pretty week but should still be able to do some light gaming, so i don't see why it shouldn't be able to handle a not so graphically amazing game like sc2. Although the low cache size of the atom 330 is a problem, it's my belief that that raw GT/s is more important in RTS games, which a 1.8ghz dual core MAY be able to provide. I'm not exactly sure but if you get one of these please test it out with red alert 3 or something to see how it plays. I'm guessing it'll be able to run SC2 at low setting though.
|
I'm seriously hoping I'll be able to run SC2 on my laptop. My specs are
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile Processor RM-70 4g ram Vista 64bit Home Prem. ( soon to be windows 7 64bit) ATI radeon mobile 3330 (something along those lines)

For only a GTS250 and 45nm dual core? No way man. Overclock that callisto more please.

Yes. Nad seriously it seems almost like a crime to have a BE at under 3ghz. go for atleast 3.4.

Hey guys im planning on building an i7 rig soon and I was wondering if anybody could guess what the least expensive GPU would be that would be able to run games such as sc2 and d3 on max settings?

I would guess around the 4670 range.

What resolution will you be running them on, I say just get the new 5850, it is cheap and future proof.
I will be making an i7 rig aswell, but I am waiting for the big day (release of sc2) to make my purchase. I am not in a hurry and I know that it will be at least (crossing my fingers) 6-8months when the game is released. Beta where are thou!!!
