This is what I should have soon my real computer took a dump few days ago, just 3 hours before TSL2 started T_T hopefully this machine will run sc2 and diablo 3 and be up and running soon. An i7 and a GTS 220? Either get a cheaper processor or a better video card with that, because an i7 is way overkill for that card. Plus i doubt that card would be able to run SC2 or DIII on full even on mid resolutions, i think it's worst that 8800gt.
GT220 = 9500g die shrink. He probably bought a shitty OEM machine and is just now realizing his mistake.
What does everyone think about the GT240? Basically it's a die shrink of the 9800GT that makes it about the size of the old 7600gt (remember that card? <3) and it's supposed to overclock amazingly. Does anyone here have one? What do you have to say about it?

It makes me really sad to see this kind of money waste
I5/Phe II x4 955 + a 5770/5850 is wayyyyyy more balanced.

Aw fuck it says the 4650M is a high end card

Ok i'm not too used with the US prices ( living in a Euro country with 20% VAT ) but i think something like that coul be cool and around your budget.
CPU: Phe II x4 955 GPU: HD5770 1Gb Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P memory: 4Gb DDR3 2 x 2 Go PC10600 PSU: Corsair VX550W Disk: WD Caviar Blue 640GB
Case: Antec Three Hundred / Xigmatec Midgard / etc ...
But you NEED few more bucks to get a 22"-24" screen ( i recommand the Samsung P2350, P2370 and P2450 ) You can always keep your old screen because the 5770 can handle dual screening.
edit: also if you are a student at university try to get Seven Pro 64 for free with the MSDNAA program. Will save you some bucks :p

I was talking to my wife about getting a new computer. I am a complete computer noob and we were looking at dell (she has a credit line there) I was going to order it, could not because of some error went to work and came home to find this thread. Then I find out she already ordered it T_T and posted the specs only to find out I failed big time T_T

The 220 is kinda low end and shitty but it will be ok for most of the games in low/medium.
So my advice is: spend some more buck for a GPU + ( and a screwdriver :D ) when Sc2 is released. With a 5770/5850 or one of the next Nvidia card Sc2 will run smoooooooooth.

I'm not so graceful with my words so i'll link better word usage and try again so if you don't want to read my wall of text you can read the links
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/03/20/how_crt_and_lcd_monitors_work/4 http://www.behardware.com/art/imprimer/641/
CRT Hz refers to how many frames they are drawing in 1 second
CRT sufferers from 2 things inconsistent pixels and flickering (if you have had an antenna on an old tv where the picture like has a slow line going up or down on the tv constantly because you aren't getting enough reception that an example of bad flickering on a monitor that shouldn't be ever that bad but that is what it is)
The CRT functions by shooting an electron beam from top to bottom at the screen then a blank screen 1/2 or 1/3rd the height of the monitor to create animation the faster it can do this the more seamless the CRT is.
Oh yeah and the bigger the CRT resolution and physical size is the faster the refresh rate needs to be to remove flickering
The LCD works differently because each pixel can be turn on and off independently it animates the whole screen at once in other words it's perfect
But LCD suffers from ghosting and color accuracy ghosting is when the pixel cannot redraw quick enough so reminatans of the frames before it starts to pile on. When it bad it gives like a ghost effect but most decent 2ms monitors now of days unless you are using a high speed camera and zoomed in all the way ghosting is so much not an issue and picture quality is maintained.

lol
Crossfire 5870 but only 4GB ram and a wolfdale ?
You weird o,o What is your res ?

The wolfadle isn't that bad e8400 can oc to 4.2 which is pretty effective in sli and crossfire for 99% of games but that is an aging platform the 2 core set up.
What's weird is the 5870's you'd think most people would opt for new cpu and mobo rather then another card he must run at one high resolution.

A lot of people believe that they will only require a high performance dual core as opposed to a quad core for several more years, and so they refuse to upgrade their systems to a quad core platform. What they don't realize is that as soon as games start to support quad cores effectively, dual cores are just not going to have the muscle to compete.

Yea i know that the Wolfdale isn't that bad but i was wondering why not to get an i7 and 6+Gb ram when you are wasting money buying two 5870. Money shouldn't be a problem lol.
Also an I7 920 + two 5850 seems more balanced than a wolfdale ( even OCed ) + two 5870. Proc is the limitating factor in many games.
