These tests so far back up most of that performance change coming from RAM performance gains (from ~2133c15 to ~3200c16) and indicate a strong reliance on memory in at least some CPU limited situations that should continue to scale with high end memory instead of just from low end to midrange. Large raid encounters are a more relevant and quite different CPU load and are a lot harder to test but i seemed to see very significant scaling from what i could tell in the argus rift 40 man raids; i'l take a few hours to investigate that in more detail soon as well Visuals: max settings, 15-16% gain from RAM ![[image loading]](https://i.imgur.com/An0XrKv.png) my performance optimized settings, 19% gain ![[image loading]](https://i.imgur.com/DbrR0r1.png) Every dot is a frame and the scales are a bit different to best represent each set of data. Nothing is GPU limited (max GPU load 60-70% on the highest load config) Which tool do you use to visualise those data points? Looks quite clean.
The FRAPS benchmark function to record every frame from dx11, FRAFS bench viewer to display visually and some image editing to show both simultaneously in a good way.
It gives a good view of frametime variance and the overall performance profile - you can see min/max performance properly and if the whole benchmark is improved, if only part of it is dramatically improved while others perform similarly on both configs etc. On this bench it looks like the performance is similarly improved across the entire benchmark.

I also heard there are a bunch of add-ons available, anything I should be using? There are tons of addons available that generally make things more convenient.
Most popular site for addons: https://mods.curse.com/addons/wow Use their client to download and update your addons, doing it manually becomes a pain once you have more of them.
Just take a look at the most downloaded addons for a start. Important are bigwigs or dbm for tracking boss mechanics, recount for tracking damage etc.
Also WeakAuras is very useful. It has a ton of options for creating graphics to track your cooldowns etc. And best thing is that you dont have to create those for yourself but can copy the designs of others.
You can find WeakAuras for example on https://wago.io/. There browse through weakauras for your class and find a collection that suits you.
And finally a good site for beginners is https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/. There you find simple guides on how to play and equip your class in raids, dungeons etc.

Just play with the base ui for a bit, its perfectly adequate for most of the game, and then add addons for things you want to change/are missing.
No need to overwhelm yourself with shit before you've even started playing.

I would posit that, if it's your first time leveling and all, go with no addons until you reach max and want to start running dungeons and stuff for gear. They can be helpful but also overwhelming. You really don't need DBM for anything while leveling unless you exhaustively do dungeons (which you probably won't, if you're sticking to DPS; long queues). Same with Recount, etc. WeakAuras probably has useful timers and alerts for every dps spec even during leveling content, but it can be a bit much to manage (both making and finding new ones).
The only thing I'd MAYBE suggest is a party frames mod, like Zperl. But even that is quite optional for leveling, mostly if you just dislike the standard frames.
Personal opinion though. Even nowadays I still use a fairly stock UI. It's the problem everyone has with games like Skyrim. It's fun to mod and get cool new stuff that gives you lots of features and customizability, but it can also bog your game down and just end up detracting from your play time lol (initial setup, tweaking, updates/maintenance...)
Edit: Gorsameth sniped me!

Oh for sure. For leveling you dont need anything.

I would suggest getting ElvUI asap. It's a lot better than standard blizz UI and you won't have to relearn everything once you get into endgame. And it has pretty much everything you'd ever need in one pack.

Thanks for the tips. I will check out the addons after a few lvls. It seems ElvUI is pretty popular one to use, will probably just get that instead of all the different ones piecemeal from curse.
My friends will be on the Horde side, is Blood Elf a good race to go with the warrior class? After reading a bit, it seems a decent choice together with orc/tauren/troll, although the overall effect of race choice seems very minor.

You will be looking at it a lot. might aswell like it. Racial differences are beyond minor.

Elv is okay but it can be awkward to have all of your eggs in one basket with a whole-UI addon. The guy running it also did some shady stuff a few years ago with malicious code in an addon update so a good portion of the community won't touch him any more

Tomb of Sargeras Fallen Avatar Tainted Essence healing absorb has been reduced to 8% (was 10%). Tainted Essence now cancels upon death.
Kil’jaeden Armageddon Hail is now spawned only once in Mythic difficulty.
More nerfs to last two, notable but not huge IMO - pretty big when combined with all of the others. They're still pretty damn hard but not that out of line for end mythic bosses any more

While browsing through the game's various functions, I noticed you can buy a $20 token with an auction value of almost 200k gold. Does this mean you can legally purchase gold now? Also how useful is gold in this game? Can I buy end game equipment with it or do you have to farm everything from boss drops?
I also don't really have a sense of how much everything costs, is there an auction house in this game?

Yes you can buy a token with real money and sell it in-game for gold on the auction house. Or you can buy it on the AH with in-game gold and redeem it for game-time or Blizzard balance.
Gold is easy enough to acquire tho if your willing to put in a little bit of work, and once you have some you can play the AH to make more with minimal effort.
There are a few 'best' items you can get from the AH. (3 armor items) For the rest you can get decent stuff but none of them are imo worth the money. Gear is easy enough to get once you get to max level and you can quickly gear up to the required amount to engage in end game activities (raids/Mythic+ dungeons) which, again, give you more gear.
(Most epic items are Bind on Pickup, so can't be traded, a select few (and crafted items) are Bind on Equip and they can be sold on the AH)

Thanks for the info, this was very helpful. I came from super grindy games like D3/PoE, where end of game gear requires countless hours to farm. It seems WoW in its current state is a lot more casual in terms of the grind. I will hold on on buying anything and see how far I can make it on my own.
I made a lvl 100 class trial Blood Elf Warrior, it seems I can keep playing the content as long as I don't turn in the artifact weapon quest? I don't want to waste the lvl 100 boost yet given I'm not sure if my friends want me to be something else or not.

Google tells me the trial is limited to 8 hours, or until you complete the artifact weapon quest. Whichever comes first.

So there's no way for me to start as a DH if I don't have any char over lvl 70 right? It seems like I can't even make a trial class for it.

^Probably not. You could give it a try when you get a high level character though, they start pretty high (100? after their introduction/lore zone)

If you have the full game and legion expansion then i think so

Death Knights are no longer limited right? so you could make one, which starts at 50 and level to 70. Saving having to 'waste' a boost.
