GGClient allows you to play Lan SC over internet like hamachi, but it has more features and doesn't have the full problem. For me, another plus is that you can get on and meet people, as opposed to having to find an opponent before you can play.
Here is a very basic guide to get started on GGClient:
First download and install the client. http://www.gg-game.com/news/html/downloads/
Then make an account http://www.gg-game.com/forum/register.php
Login on GGClient.
Then click StarCraft: BroodWar in the list on the left.
And join one of the rooms.
Then click "Set Game Path" below the channel text
Click browse and find starcraft.exe
If you want to use BWLauncher, you can select that instead.
Exit the settings.
Click "Start game".
If you are using BWLauncher.exe instead of Starcraft.exe, it will whine, don't worry just ignore. (I still don't know what compatible mode is )
Note that even though the channel name says 1.13, you don't need 1.13 to join the channel. Just be sure you and your opponent have the same version when you try to play.
Once you load Starcraft, go to LAN UDP in multiplayer, and you should be able to see eachother's games. Having problems? You can always /w KD29 when I'm on, or check out GG-game's extensive guides:

I never get these virtual lan programs working good. It lags more than Bnet when I tried it.

I tried it with someone in new zealand and in australia, and it was even worse!

GGClient is used very commonly for WarCraft 3, and it is MUCH more stable and effective than Hamachi.
|
seems nice.Gonna test it out soon.^^
|
So does anyone want to play?
|
Didn't I post something like this on the forums like a week ago about Hamachi on SC thread, or something? What's your take on GG-client?
|
looks ugly and unprofessional. was it designed for dota or something =D
|
Things I miss in hamachi are no general chat channel, you can't see what networks people are on, etc.
Hamachi, you need to meet a person first, then get on. On GGClient, you can go on, and meet someone to play with. If lan play gets more popular, GGClient is the better choice imho.

Oh, this looks exactly like an english version of VS (the chinese use it) :O
VS is basically unplayable for me vs chinese but that's because well, most chinese connections are unplayable for me (chinese people with CNC connection can play with foreigners tho, not tried on VS but on BNet).
I'm gonna see if it works better for me when playing koreans than hamachi, that would be nice :>

looks simple enough. I was getting annoyed by the fact that hamchi channels remember users even when they log off (ie when channels are "full", it's b/c the offline users are being counted as being "there" even though they're not there.... pretty gay, really)
and you're right, hamachi is mainly for setting up games that have already been arranged.

Hamachi does that because the people don't press the power button before they exit, therefor the host must evict them to make more space. Yeah, it is stupid.

Why does this have to be 1.13?
|
You should post it on the forums about the 1.14.. Show that SC is the boss, SON.

Correct. I should have mentioned it. You just need to have the same version as your opponent.

GGClient actually shuts down your internet connection, I do not recommend it.

It looks like it's just does VPN tunnelling like hamachi, only with a more gaming friendly front end.
It could be any combination of crappy NIC or software/driver problems if you are having connection problems with it
of course this originally chinese right? I don't really trust chinese software to not fuck things up
|
It's originally chinese? hm. I didn't notice that.
So does anyone want to play like.. this instant?
|
the technology was from China. Because blizzard cbfed selling original BW there anymore. And the company that were distributing BW originally went bank rupt. + the fact that Battle net is fucked for China as well.
