The theory is that it's possibly arranged in the order that players are added to the game. Since high-rated players are going to have longer queues by nature of how few of them they are, they will usually be the first players to be added to a particular game. Lower down where matching games is fast and easy due to the breadth of the player pool, the players might be added in more or less random order.

The order of the ppl in party is based on who invited who and the order in which ppl joined the party. Ppl in the same party will also be next to each other always. Some speculate the average MMR is used for the party so you can have [3 1] ahead of 2.

This tends towards small gains for quick matches because they are the ones against relatively worse teams that you're expected to win.

People complaining about this points/mmr system btw clearly did not ever play high rated WoW arena (lol) prior to the last expansion as EVERY complaint here about points gain was SUPER common in that system. Win +1-3 25 games in a row. Lose to one of those teams -28. It is just standard elo and the only solution to it is to have more high rated players so you get better, more evenly matched games at the top of the ladder. It is a lot harder though when you have to match 5 per team. ![]() Oh, I am curious about party mmr though. It seems very strange to me. I q exclusively with the same group of people who only stack with each other yet there is a fairly large range in the party mmrs we got upon placement, that does not even neccesarily correspond to the range in our solo mmrs. It is very strange. All I can come up with is that prior to the ranked implementation the mmrs were not actually separate so upon initial placement there is wide range however with enough games played with the same party everyones mmr SHOULD trend to one point if the system is working correct?

It's also possible for a 2- and a 3-stack to play vs 5stacks in party ranked. Both favour the 5stack by a looooong shot imo.

Even if it would work like that, there woul dbe plenty of examples where, say, 9x 5500 guys would look for a game and suddenly a 5600 guy queues and fills up the game. So he gets in last but is still highest. Im seen more than one people say its "confirmed" but Ive seen nothing "confirming" it save from a few anecdotes. And there seem to be anecdotes telling the opposite too. And that Valve would implement a random threshold where above it colors mean something and below it doesnt? Please, do people actually just take claims like that as facts without any critical thinking? That said, Im not saying colors dont mean anything, but until I've seen some quite a lot more solid evidence it seems to be a stupid myth to me. Is it even a thing on other Dota forums?

Do you know how rare it is for 9x 5550 solo players to be searching at the same time? This may have been possible 3 weeks ago with the old match finding algorithum but with the newer and faster queue times there's no way something like this would happen.

Those stacks are lower rated players, you should be able to crush them individually. Everyone in solo queue will get matched against stacks, it's therefore fair for everyone. Stacks get a bonus to their rating because they're a "team". There's also gonna be scenarios where you might be playing with stack as the 5th player for example, but I guess people don't notice it those times? Just when you lose right.

Isn't the "bonus" just the fact that they are matched by using their party rating?
