Please keep the QQ to a minimum if you do not like this update. We are happy to hear your reasoning for not liking a ranked system, but no "OMG VOLVO WHY" posts.

To add to my earlier comment. Singsing plays 3 matches and loses 50 points per match, and when he wins he gets 0 points (ye, not a typo, really zero points). gege

Wow it seems to me that people that say that Juice's test is pointless are confusing "elo hell" with skill plateaus.

His test-run is perfectly legit, if he gets close to his true rank then that means the system is working properly and will place you where you belong.

Now if people want a 3,5k guy to break through to some x rating, say 4k and is having "issues" because of his teammates, then that's an entirely different thing. If you want to get to the "next level" you have to waaaaay out-perform your skill bracket.

In my experience ratings are like +200/-200 thing. Or even more, one streak and you're up/down 200 points, doesn't really mean you belong there, even if you do it consistently and then fall back.

tldr; elo hell doesn't exist, skill plateaus do and are much harder to break through than the supposed fiery abyss

This is true yes,I'm floating around 4650-4800 with losing/winning streaks and can't break that and I consider myself semi-pro player, currently 10 loss streak :D

that is just adorable. play pub games = semi pro now? : )

exactly same here, there is no motive to play any more ranked for me. get the worst teammeates ever and get no points if i manage to win 1v5.

Man, remember when Dota was fun and we just played to play Dota without all those shiny numbers. Those were the good old days when a win was a win and we didn't need this other stuff to keep us playing.

Seriously, I have gotten points for every match I have won. The MMR for SingSing might have been bugged at the moment or something.

You are not exactly at Sing's level. This happens because of the fact he has so much more points than the other players, and should be happening ocasionally to every other player at that level, specially with the changes to make the queues shorter. It doesn't mean MMR isn't working, it's not supposed to reward you for wins or punish you for losses.

Wait, your telling me I am not as good as a professional player? The nerve you have, sir.

And that is to be expected if he is matched against a team that is well below his skill level. Someone has to be at the top. But it is no reason for people complaining about ELO hell to stop playing, thinking they won't get points.

Just saying the fact it doesn't happen to your doesn't mean his MMR is bugged, that's just how it works. How many points you get don't really matter in this case, MMR works diferently at the top, it's the kind of thing where comparisons from players like Beesa are far more valuable.

It is possible for an individual MMR to increase after a loss or decrease after a win, but in general the winning team’s average MMR will increase and the losing team’s MMR will decrease.

Valve even adressed it, saying it is possible. Bugged it isn't, since they acknowledge it as a possibility.

I mean it's supposed to work like that at the highest end isn't it, maybe 0 points was just a wacky MMR calculation but I could see a very high rated pro getting only 1 for a win when the system cannot provide a good batch of opponents. If that wasn't the case then it would just be a race to see who could farm enough free wins when no good players are queing.

It's not that his MMR is bugged, it's that he's so far above everyone else that he will either earn nothing or lose a lot. That's especially plausible if they indeed relaxed the search range at the high end to cut down on queue times. If you're playing with people +/- 200 from you but Sing and Beesa are playing people +/- (in this case -) 800 or something, then their rating change is going to be way different.

From what I've heard they are playing with people with 4k, so the diference is over 1k. It's pretty huge and it's unreasonable to compare such situation to your average game.

In HoN if you're too far out of your range it puts in 'mmr protection' for you, basically saying the mmr variance is so high that the outcome isn't a reliable indicator of anything. So in Dota terms a 6K in a 3.5k avg game would usually see +0/-0. The alternative is as it appears in ota where it's +1/-60 which basically is huge deterrent to even play, even just for fun.

Has anyone else noticed that the sooner the game ends, the less points you gain/lose? This seems to be the case, at least in my experience and i find it quite dumb, you should gain more points, IF anything.

How do you know that it's not just a favored team is likely to win faster?

SingSing is the best ladder player, Valve even acknowledged him being rank 1 back during the TI2 era.

I have thought of that. But it has happened literally every single time a game ends before 25 minutes, never later. I have played over a hundred ranked games and i find it hard to believe every one sided game ive encountered has ended super early, and never mid-late.

At the end of the day, the free market proves that ELO hell exists. If it didn't, would riot have needed to ban ELO jobs?
