Please keep the QQ to a minimum if you do not like this update. We are happy to hear your reasoning for not liking a ranked system, but no "OMG VOLVO WHY" posts. |

I really, really liked the fact that there was only 1 queue that everyone played through, it made every game special to me. Now you're either going to be the "casual" playing non-ranked or you're going to be playing for a number, which as I hope you all know is never a good way to measure your skill or progress.

as long as solo que and team que are actually 2 well done seperate ranked modes it will be good
|
super excited to have a ranked mode !

This is awesome, I had zero incentive to play solo queue before. Also really helps playing with friends or semi random people like tl.net peps if you can say people in x bracket.
|
This, my friends, is a terrible terrible idea!

81 more games and I can play ranked.
Guess now I'm finally motivated to move past 69 games played. teehee. I'm a child.

Challenge: How many sniper games can you play before being sent to low priority for intentional trolling.

Maybe it's too early in the morning for me to read, but I still can't see if the queues are separate or not? As in, if you queue ranked, are you only going to match up with other ranked players?
Because if not, words can not describe how disastrous this is going to be in terms of in-game toxicity.

Only people who don't want to improve think like this. Non-ranked will still be popular, especially since you're required to play it before being ranked.
MMR is a good way to see how well you are improving. People with motivation to improve will have visible feedback on how they are doing. Back in HoN I played to improve myself, studying from those that were objectively better than I was. The more I improved, the better my mmr became, until I could queue with pros.
The fact that a lot of people are oblivious to is that, because you suck you don't know if what you think is good is actually good. Look beyond the QQ of dick measuring and you will see that high mmr commands respect. A lot of hero guides are absolute trash because people who play low mmr believe they are playing well because of their skill bracket. Now you will know who to learn from and who to ignore.

IIRC its around 300 games if you have ~50% winrate, slightly faster if you win more than that.

Indeed, most people should be reasonably close to an accurate rating after 150.

The most important thing (that is if ranked mmr is based off your normal mmr) is that a good player can't go play ranked on a new account and own the low ranks. Once he gets to 150 games he will be at a really high normal mmr, and will place higher initially when he enters ranked, instead of at the lower end.
edit: unless you purposefully lose 150 games in order to enter ranked at a low mmr. But then you're an idiot if you do that.

MMR's actually a really shitty way to track improvement because virtually all MMR systems have mechanisms that show players false improvement either intentionally (bonus-pool like mechanisms that give you positive feedback just to keep you playing) or unintentionally (new players entering the player pool over the course of a season naturally balloons peoples' ratings upward due to the fact that most new players are below the average skill level and therefore will feed rating into the system).
Realistically DotA is the kind of game where if you have any level of self-introspection, you are the best indicator of your own improvement. I've never felt like it was hard to see whether I was getting better at this game or not.

I plan to play unranked, but I quite like the concept of ranked
