Please keep the QQ to a minimum if you do not like this update. We are happy to hear your reasoning for not liking a ranked system, but no "OMG VOLVO WHY" posts. |

Always? No. But higher chance of a decent game. Even games in a series between the best two teams in the world using CM drafting can easily be a stomp either way, that's just the nature of dota.

Pretty much, though I think what determines a good game is pretty subjective. For me it's a game that has a lot of action and drawn out fights yet ends fairly quickly, for others it might be a drawn out game where they get to farm a lot be 6 slotted as the carry and feel like a boss.
Also, any player watching a game at a significantly lower level than their own will probably look at it and say that it was not good because X player or Y team could have done this or that and won easily, yet from the perspective of the players it could have been a great game because they don't have the experience to see these things that would hamper their enjoyment.
However nobody likes being stomped, and I do still agree that better players are less likely to be stomped, though on the other hand, decent players are less likely to throw an advantage which can at times lead to stale games (in my opinion).

Loved this thread.
Couple of things.
DRD played SK Gaming once with Testie on it. WaC (probably one of the very best all-around HoN players ever) absolutely buried Testie's FA alive with Soul Stealer, back when we had WaC and Moonmeander` on the team.
1-0 there. Cold stomp.
Played against his Panda in a game. Basically, you have just know how the testie stack works. Would call to go 'fake gank' Testie, his entire team would Tp in, we'd just walk away. Anyway, beat him again on his stream. Testie would have a fit if I joined any game after being appropriately dumpstered hardcore. He faded from HoN inhouses and become 'the best' HoN player and started making a business model.
the best hon player's' going rate 15/hr.
My company hired one of the best engineering database architects in the business, roughly 500/hr, and we ended up paying him over 175k in a few months for a design implementation.
There are so many more aspiring things to be the best in. Sadly, gaming isn't one of them, and everyone in this topic, but testie (hence force known as 'Chump Change'), has the luxury of leaving their own computer and aspiring to things past gaming.
You can log into chump change's stream at any time and see him gaming on a smurf with some 'customers'. Livin' the life, chump change. Everyone has other ladders they wanna climb, notably one called real life, chump change.
So cool down there. No one is impressed with your curriculum vitae of gaming but yourself.

How is this relevant to any of the discussion? I'm so fucking sick of people belittling the occupation of other people. Go be a corporate zombie, if that's what you're into, but stop with the bullshit about which one is more relevant.

It's his company paying for some guys $500/hour, not pay for him lol.

6.79 #pentacore Have you been hashtagging pentacore like to every post you've made since 6.79? I feel like that's all I see of yours~
Overall, I think it's a soft ranked system which I agree with. There's still going to be fun normal games and for the people who want to see how they stack up against others, it'll be decently so. That said, I do want just a top 200 players list to see how the pros stack up against each other (if they choose to rank).

I asked a while back what pentacore meant but noone would tell me. And I'm pretty sick of that hashtagging bullshit too. It's not funny. It's not clever. Twitter is stupid.
On topic: I really hope this patch comes right before the weekend so I can play the shit out of it all weekend long.

there are some youtubers that are millionaires because they make 15 minute gameplay videos. And shocker, most of them aren't even good at the games they play.

who are these youtube millionaires you are talking about? and are these dota videos? last time i check even the most popular dota videos dont get such view counts to make millions.

and its not him they are paying $500/hour for, but some other guy. I technically worked for Bell (biggest communications business in Canada) so can I say someone in my company is getting paid $10,000 an hour to do things?? Cause im sure it happens. If we talk about the "company" I work for now, lets just say there are some situations that involve millions.
So all of that is irrelevant. If testie loves what hes doing and is living off of it, who are we to belittle that. Not everyone wants to be mega rich if it means sacrificing your passion/hating what you do.

Do we know when this patch is releasing? I'm waiting for it so bad

I think there are no Dota youtubers who could make roughly a million. But some youtubers do. Ever heard the name KSIOlajideBT? He's a FIFA youtuber who I think has made a million or more from his videos.

Good for you
But 99% of the people crying for ranked MM will be faced against the same peeps as they were before. People overestimate there skills to much. U wont be put in the serious section or never reach it. Someone will still pick CM and not buy the wards/donkey whole game and get a better kda then u. U will still flame the bitch and try to forget that she had a better kda to start with, and u as a player basically sucked that game.. so painfull, we try not to see certain facts and our own mistakes! haha

This is an excellent and bold move from Dota 2. The fact that Valve has gone out of their way to explain the matchmaking system and that it mostly uses the same statistical techniques that I've previously advocated is great.
Bonus pool? No. Unlike SC2's, there's no bonus pool. Other distortionary gimmicks? Nope. Modelling the team effect? Yes. This is matchmaking done right.
My only concern is that you need 150 games to unlock ranked matchmaking. Why? What if it's a new account of an experience player? Also, given that MMR is viewable (Blizzard is too scared to do this), I wonder if there is a ladder. There doesn't appear to be, but given that the distribution of MMR should be easy to find out, it would be possible to calculate a percentile anyway. Lastly, taking experience into account for forming matches seems questionable given that skill is already taken into account. This seems like an unnecessary additional constraint, which shouldn't be needed except maybe for new players. But it shouldn't have a material affect on ranks as experience isn't taken into account for updating ranks.
