If you played Terran you would understand I think :-) don't be ignorant.

I've played zerg since release
since the start of this season I got a friend's account (who doesn't play anymore) who's in silver, and got it to close to plat as terran, just haven't gotten time to really ladder recently to get into plat as... atm's finals -_-'

Late game TvP has been a nightmare for me, I've been experimenting with consistent drop play in order to cushion the effect of the Protoss death-ball. My play style has definitely changed over the last few months considering TvP.

It's because terran isnt as easy to win with anymore and I think is the hardest to play late game, after all the nerfs/bigger maps and everyone just collectively getting better over time, playing terran has gotten harder now. In the past they were winning alot because the other races were not prepared for allins or the map was small, now timings are starting to get more refined which makes allins work less and less especially on ladder.
also terran players still get bitched at by noobs, "omg marines so stupid" "omg 1-1-1 so broken still" "omg scv allin autorepair nice joke" in general T still gets the most hate I feel.

I think the second part is more relevant to why there are fewer active terrans on the ladder.
It's hard enough playing on the ladder without having to have people rage at you because of what race you play, and Terran players draw a lot more hate than zergs or Protosses do I think everyone can agree with that.

Terran is way harder to use and only balances out with other races at the outmost highest level. It will become even worse when all the terran 1 base or 2 base all ins will be figured, players who don't play at the top won't win much at all. Terran was so succesful back then because 1 base is easy to execute, but now that the game and the maps are leading towards longer games people are starting to feel the pain of going into late game with them. Thing is terran is stuck with t1-2 units whole game so they have to outmanouver or outposition other race high tier super powerful units (colo-templars, broodlords-infestors). I am not saying game is not balanced by any mean, when I came back from Korea I had the strong feeling terran is slightly the most powerful race played by people around top korean progamers, but it doesn't take away the fact the level of practice and experience required to reach that requires way more effort than with protoss or zerg.
|
Terran as a race just does not fit in with low level players. Zerg can play a defensive style and macro up. Protoss generally revolves around either timing attacks or deathball.
Meanwhile, terran relies upon constant agression and drops. Even if a terran is playing a macro game, it is usually in combination with harassment and agression. This means you have to to do two things at once. Terran requires the most multi-tasking and micro, things which sub-diamond is extremely hard to pull off. As a masters player though, it's also the thing that attractcs me most to the race.
The feeling you get when you execute a 3 tank push against a zerg, while dropping his main, and without getting your tanks caught unsieged, and microing perfectly against the banelings...all the while keeping your minerals and gas low...it has no equal.

I used to play terran like you, then i took an arrow in the knee.

I think Terran players switch to Z or P, because it's frustrating to play terran right now. I think the right way to play terran is either very agressive (1 or 2 base timings) or macro oriented(drop harrass and heavy focus on upgrades) which requires a lot of apm and practice.
The main reason also is the recent TvP state. Since the patch, Terran are struggling to the new protoss builds. I hope to see in the next few weeks some type of standard build (other than 1/1/1 ^-^ ) because i'm lost in this matchup.
I played T in BW and SC2. The fact that terran is "hard" to master is what I like about Terran. And I hope the "true" Terran users stick to their guns, we can do it brothers!!
Terran fighting!!!

(Zerg player) Ironically, I've been thinking of switching to Terran .Much more of a challenge at the higher lvl, whereas I see Zerg as mainly macro.

Well, 1-1-1 is not a good example of why Terran is the hardest race though. You should not be surprised to be BM'd after 1-1-1'ing. It's a kind of trade: you take the easy win (you don't 1-1-1 to get better or prove to your opponent that you're better than him, do you?) and you get BM'd ;D I don't bitch when I get BM'd while crushing some terran with a 6 gates, you gotta be realistic...

Well said.

I'd change to zerg but that would only ever happen if NaDa changed from terran.
gotta stay as your favourite progamer race, terran for life (or nada switching)

I started Season 4 as Terran in Silver on the NA server (switched from Protoss), and the top 8 was never less than 7 Terrans. Now i'm in Gold and honestly the top 8 is only Z and P, i have not seen a single Terran move up since joining 2 weeks ago. I play maybe 1 TvT every 8 or so matches since my MMR moved up to Gold/Plats, and majority of my matchups are now TvP. This is just my own experience, but a friend in NA Masters playing Terran told me all of what has been mentioned in this post 3 months ago, so I wasn't surprised at all.

I think that alot of ppl hate TvT (personally I like it, but I can see why noobs wouldnt like it cuz it can be a very frustrating matchup). So that kicks out some ppl.
Nearly everyone except random platinum guy who has it figured out with thor/hellion/banshee hates TvP. This is the major reason why ppl are quitting. It definitely feels like you either 1base them or they crush you with the 3-3 ball of doom unless you outplay the shit out of them.
Generally I feel like people are ok with TvZ, has always seemed like a pretty balanced MU to me.

Terrans hard. You get penalized for mistakes more than the other two races. Tha'ts why its so good at the highest levels where mistakes are minimal, and Terran suffers so much in lower leagues where many more mistakes are made.
Kinda like BW. Its great if you have the mechanics, but not so much if you don't.

There. I said it. The community is very negative toward Terran players in General and this has caused me to stop playing and only watch games.
I get this kind of shit a lot, masters Terran here. Pretty much why I stopped trying and just all-in pretty much every game now. If people want to talk shit for using cheesy strats then I will keep using cheesy strats.

Personally, I just don't ladder much

I also feel like a major issue for terran is the damage you take from making an error. I feel like Zerg share this issue somewhat as well. Difference is that since zerg is super fast, if they make a big error they can potentially escape if they catch it soon enough, terran is slow so when you make that error your doomed.
Against protoss if you mismicro your army in the late game you can easily lose your entire army for almost nothing in exchange. But the opposite is not true. If protoss mismicros there army and gets empd in the face they can just Amove and still do pretty decent damage. Much of the terran army will still die.
Against zerg if you mismicro your army your ball of marines will vaporize to a few banelings and you are screwed. The opposite is somewhat true for zerg as well which is why I don't feel like theres a big issue in that matchup.
